After working for a while, Jiang Yuwei saw that Ning Daya had almost finished her work, and then went to check on the jerky that Ning Wan was responsible for baking. It was almost done too, so Jiang Yuwei patted Ning Wan's head and smiled:
"Wan'er is great. This jerky will be ready in a little while. Remember to ask Daya to help you wrap it in paper."
After saying that, Jiang Yuwei went to the backyard and saw that Ning Zhao and Yun Qing's sausages were almost done grilling. However, the sausages would taste better if they were grilled until they were drier, so it would probably take until dawn. Jiang Yuwei thought that she would ask Ning Huaizhi and Ning Zixuan to come and take over from them in the middle of the night to continue grilling.
Seeing that everything in the yard was almost settled, Jiang Yuwei hurriedly went to Aunt Zhou's house. However, as soon as she arrived, she heard cursing coming from the yard:
"You heartless bastard! Our Ningqiu has only been married for a few days and you're already trying to run away with her! You're truly a black-hearted monster!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuwei hurriedly pushed open the courtyard gate and rushed in. She saw Granny Tian sitting in the middle of the courtyard with Aunt Ning. Ning Qiu and Ning Wu were standing in front of them with their heads down, not saying a word, looking like children who had done something wrong. Aunt Zhou and Uncle Youcai were sitting on the threshold of the kitchen, looking at Ning Wu with worried expressions.
The iron pillar standing at the door was the first to see Jiang Yuwei enter. He quickly pulled Jiang Yuwei aside and whispered:
"Sister Yuwei, you've finally arrived! I was just about to go to the courtyard to call you when I saw that Granny Tian is causing trouble at our house again. My parents are honest people, how could they possibly win against her?"
Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei patted Tiezhu on the shoulder, signaling him not to rush. Jiang Yuwei walked up to Granny Tian and smiled:
"Oh, this must be Ning Qiu's aunt. I remember you said a few days ago that you didn't want to associate with the village head's family anymore. How come you've changed your mind so quickly? So all your words were just empty promises?"
Ning Qiu, who was standing behind Jiang Yuwei, couldn't help but burst out laughing when she heard this.
When Granny Tian heard Ning Qiu laugh, she glared at her fiercely and scolded her:
"Ning Qiu, you're even more heartless! Who am I doing all this for? Coming to someone's yard so late to support you, and now this woman is mocking me like this, and you not only don't speak up for me, but you even dare to laugh along!"
Aunt Ning looked embarrassed and glared at Ning Qiu. Ning Qiu quickly covered her mouth and dared not make a sound.
Jiang Yuwei knew that Aunt Ning was easily influenced and particularly obedient to her older sister, so she suspected that Granny Tian's disturbance at Aunt Zhou's house tonight was mostly due to Aunt Ning's indulgence. Therefore, Jiang Yuwei looked at Aunt Ning and said:
"Aunt Ning, didn't we discuss Ning Qiu's trip to the capital with you? What's going on now?"
Upon hearing this, Aunt Ning lowered her head shyly and whispered:
"Today I was thinking of making some extra dry food for Ningqiu so she could take it on her journey. But as soon as I finished making it, my sister came to my house and asked to borrow some grain. However, all the flour in my house was used to make dry food for Ningqiu, and I didn't have any grain to give her. So I told my sister that Ningqiu was going to the capital."
As she spoke, Aunt Ning glanced timidly at Granny Tian's face and continued:
"But when my sister heard about this, she immediately got angry and said that I had been deceived and that my daughter had been cheated..."
Before Aunt Ning could finish speaking, Granny Tian interrupted her, glared at her, and scolded:
"No wonder you've always been a bit slow-witted. You've just been tricked into marrying your daughter off. You married Ningqiu off to someone from your village thinking that it would be convenient to have her by your side to help with any big or small matters in the future. Now that she's just gotten married, she's already abandoning her and going to the capital. I think you've really raised this daughter for nothing!"
Jiang Yuwei sneered upon hearing this.
"Just the other day you were saying you wanted to sever ties with the village head's family, and now you're here borrowing grain again. You're only doing this because Aunt Ning is kind and easy to talk to. If you were my sister, I would have chased you out with a broom. You never had good intentions from the start."
As she spoke, Jiang Yuwei glanced helplessly at Aunt Ning, who was cowering with her head down, not daring to speak, and continued:
"You're just unhappy because Ningqiu got married before your daughter. You've been picking fights ever since the wedding day. Now that you hear Ningqiu can go to the capital with her husband's family right after getting married, you're even more jealous. You must be thinking that you can't let Ningqiu go to the capital and live a good life so easily. So, you dragged Aunt Ning here and made this scene!"
Jiang Yuwei actually wanted to say these words to Aunt Ning. After all, Aunt Ning had been oppressed by Granny Tian for so many years, and in her heart, she had long been obedient to Granny Tian. If she didn't explain these things to Aunt Ning clearly today, Granny Tian would probably bully Aunt Ning even more recklessly if Ning Qiu really went to the capital.
Aunt Ning seemed to have taken Jiang Yuwei's words to heart, so she looked up at Granny Tian with red eyes. Granny Tian panicked when she saw her usually obedient sister looking at her like that.
Because Jiang Yuwei had just hit the nail on the head. She couldn't stand that Ning Qiu was living a better life than her own daughter. Back then, she and her sister had both married farmers, and they thought their lives would be just as miserable.
But to her surprise, her brother-in-law became the village head, and her sister's family's life got better and better. She was determined to catch up with her, but now that she couldn't compete with her, she pinned her hopes on her daughter.
Granny Tian desperately wanted her daughter to marry into a good family, but Ning Qiu beat her to it. Now, Ning Qiu seems to have had some incredible luck, having just entered the family and already planning to go to the capital with her husband's family to live a good life. Granny Tian is naturally furious and is determined to ruin the whole thing so that she can feel better.
Seeing that Granny Tian remained silent, Jiang Yuwei smiled and said:
"What? I've hit the nail on the head with all your petty, shameless thoughts, haven't I? From now on, stop meddling in your sister's family affairs and stop interfering in other people's business. Since you declared in front of so many relatives and friends that you would sever ties with Aunt Ning's family, you should keep your word. You're not young anymore, so stop doing such shameless things!"
As she spoke, Jiang Yuwei grabbed the broom by the door, raised it, and looked at Granny Tian, saying:
"So, should I kick you out, or will you leave on your own?"
Seeing that Jiang Yuwei was about to get serious, Granny Tian quickly stood up, pointed at Jiang Yuwei, and scolded:
"You wicked woman, you've got ulterior motives! You're deliberately trying to sow discord between us sisters! You just wait!"
As she spoke, Granny Tian scrambled and crawled out of the courtyard!
