Chapter 2 Setting Rules

Chen Guixiang led the way, and it took them about half a day to reach the Ning family.

"Mother, why did it take so long? Xin'er is already complaining that she's hungry and wants to eat!"

When the second daughter-in-law, Sun, saw Chen Guixiang leading her elder brother's wife into the house, she stepped forward and said something.

Chen Guixiang didn't even turn her body, but instead rolled her eyes at her back:

"Look, it's because she's so precious that she has to wear a red wedding dress to be widowed in our house."

Sun snorted coldly.

"Hmph, in our Ning family, we don't care about being precious or not. We all come from the countryside, and there's so much work to do at home. We married you so you could work."

Before Jiang Yuwei could speak, Jiang Yaoyao hurriedly explained:

“This sister-in-law is right. We are all farmers, how can we not work? Besides, my father owes your family money. My sister is married into the family, so naturally she will earn back the money she owes you. You can use her as you please. Don’t look at her thin body, she is very strong. She does all the dirty and hard work in our family.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Sun's eyes lit up, and she quickly responded with a smile:

"This must be the Jiang family's younger sister. Judging from your words, you must be a reasonable person. Why don't you stay and have lunch with us?"

Seeing that none of the family members were kind, Jiang Yaoyao was afraid that they would detain her as well, so she only asked for an IOU and hurriedly returned to Jiang Village.

Jiang Yuwei has now recovered most of her health. After all, she survived the apocalypse, so her genes are naturally good. In addition, the original owner of this body often did farm work, so although she was thin, she was also strong.

Jiang Yuwei felt a little hungry, so she abruptly ripped off her veil and threw it on the ground. She walked straight to the dining table, and just as she was about to use a spoon to scoop rice from the bowl, she heard a scream:

"Hey, hey, hey! Are you crazy?! What right do we wives have to eat rice?!"

Sun rushed forward and snatched the bowl and spoon from Jiang Yuwei's hands. She turned and walked to the stove, scooped half a bowl of rice porridge from the pot, and impatiently placed it in front of Jiang Yuwei, saying:

"Eat up, you gluttonous girl!"

Jiang Yuwei frowned, looked at the half bowl of rice porridge in front of her, and drank it down in one gulp. No, she still felt hungry!

She picked up her chopsticks and started picking at the only plate of meat on the table. When Sun saw this, she was about to stop her, but Jiang Yuwei tripped her and fell down in front of the table.

Chen Guixiang, who was greeting guests outside the courtyard, heard the noise from the kitchen and came in to check.

"Mother, Mother, this woman is bullying me!"

Sun lay on the ground, crying as she complained.

"When have I ever bullied you? It's you who have never understood respect and always yelled at me. Now that I'm married into the Ning family, I'm your sister-in-law, how come you won't even let me eat my fill?"

As Jiang Yuwei spoke, she brought the meat and vegetables on the table to herself and ate them with relish.

When Chen Guixiang saw that Jiang Yuwei, a woman who had married into the family to pay off debts, dared to eat the meat and vegetables that she had left for her second son, she was furious. She picked up the fire poker that was standing by the stove and was about to hit Jiang Yuwei without saying a word!

Jiang Yuwei had very keen hearing. Although she didn't turn her head, she heard the sound of the stick being swung behind her. She reached out and grabbed the stick that was about to hit her, stuffed the last bite of meat and vegetables into her mouth, licked her lips with satisfaction, and turned to stare at Chen Guixiang, who was full of anger.

He said coldly:

"Ha, your Ning family is quite amusing. You don't even give your new bride a full meal on her first day in the family, and you even beat her?"

Seeing that she couldn't wrest the fire poker away from Jiang Yuwei, Chen Guixiang simply let go and pointed at her, cursing:

"You little bastard born of a whore! I think beating you is too lenient! You dare to talk back to your mother-in-law on your very first day in the family. Do you think you can get away with anything without a man to keep you in check?!"

After saying that, he sat down on the ground and started throwing a tantrum:

"Oh dear, my poor eldest son, it's so easy for you to die, leaving behind two children. How am I, an old woman, supposed to raise them? I was thinking of finding you a wife so that your children would have someone to look after them in the future! But now it seems that this woman is just a bastard born of a mother but not raised by one!"

The villagers who were eating in the courtyard heard the commotion and forgot about their meals. They quickly got up, crowded around the window, and stood at the door looking inside.

"What kind of trouble is Chen Guixiang causing this time?"

"That goes without saying, they want to set rules for the new bride."

"I heard that the eldest daughter of the Jiang family is an honest and upright person, but her life is probably going to be difficult from now on."

"That's right, don't you know how Boss Ning's ex-wife died?"

"Hey, keep your voice down, or Chen Guixiang might hear you and cause you trouble."

Jiang Yuwei heard every whisper of the villagers. She figured that Chen Guixiang was no easy person to deal with, and that she was probably involved in the death of Ning Laoda's previous wife.

Jiang Yuwei walked up to Chen Guixiang, helped her up, and said with a smile:

"Mother, the ground is cold, so don't catch a cold. You can scold me all you want, just don't get too upset."

"See, I told you, the eldest daughter of the Jiang family is too honest."

"Yes, even after being scolded like that, she didn't get angry."

Seeing that everyone was speaking up for Jiang Yuwei, Chen Guixiang became furious and tried to use the same trick of sitting on the ground to throw a tantrum. However, Jiang Yuwei's grip was too strong, pinching her armpits as if she wanted to crush her bones. She couldn't sit down and had to be forcibly lifted up.

Chen Guixiang cried out in pain:

"Ouch, ouch, you little brat, you're going to strangle me! Let go! Let go of me right now!"

Jiang Yuwei's lips curled slightly, and she suddenly released her hands. Chen Guixiang, who was still struggling desperately backward, instantly lost her grip and fell to the ground. With a crisp sound, it was revealed that Chen Guixiang's tailbone had been broken!

Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly squatted down and said in a tearful voice, "I'm at a loss for what to do."

"Mother, Mother, what's wrong with you? I'm only doing this for your own good. You're angry with your wife and don't want her to eat enough. You can hit me or scold me, but you can't torture yourself."

Everyone looked at Jiang Yuwei, who was squatting on the ground with red eyes, and felt particularly sorry for her. Someone couldn't bear it and spoke up:

"Old woman Chen, that's enough. How can you not let a new bride have a full meal on her first day at home?"

"That's right, that's right. If you want to set rules, wait until after this joyous occasion."

"Sigh, this eldest daughter-in-law looks honest and filial, but she's going to have a hard time in the future."

Chen Guixiang was always one to hold a grudge, and now she couldn't stand the villagers pointing and gossiping in her own home. She sat on the ground, waving her hands and starting to chase them away.

"Go, go, go! You're all done eating, so leave! It's none of your business how my family does things!"

Seeing that Chen Guixiang was throwing a tantrum again, the others didn't want to argue with her. They just looked worriedly at Jiang Yuwei, who was still squatting on the ground crying, and shook their heads helplessly before leaving.
