Seeing that Madam Lin was still trying to defend her daughter, Jiang Yuwei said coldly:
"With witnesses and physical evidence, and Aunt Lin herself has confessed, what misunderstanding could there be? Even protecting one's own child shouldn't be done like this, Madam Lin!"
Upon hearing Jiang Yuwei's words, Madam Lin's expression stiffened.
"Madam Jiang, aren't you going a bit too far with your words? When did it become your place to interfere in the affairs of the Prince Jing's residence?"
Before Jiang Yuwei could speak, Ning Zixuan's voice came from outside the door.
"No one else can interrupt, except Madam Jiang. She is the savior of my mother and me. Do you think she has the right to interrupt?"
Ning Zixuan looked coldly at Madam Lin and Madam Li and said sternly:
"With the Prince not in the capital, does this Concubine Lin really think she can do whatever she wants just because your Lin family is backing her? If Madam Lin thinks we are wrong, then we will take the witnesses and evidence and go to Shuntian Prefecture with Concubine Lin to get to the bottom of this!"
As he spoke, Ning Zixuan turned to look at the princess.
“Mother, I think the Lin family doesn’t want to save face. Since that’s the case, you don’t need to save face for them anymore. We don’t need to wait for Father to return home. Let’s take advantage of the Lin family’s presence today to go to Shuntian Prefecture and get to the bottom of this!”
No sooner had Ning Zixuan finished speaking than Madam Li, who was sitting to the side, could no longer remain seated.
“Mother-in-law, we can’t do this. We can’t ruin the Lin family’s reputation for the sake of Aunt Lin. If we go to Shuntian Prefecture, then this will be as good as announcing it to the whole world.”
As she spoke, Madam Li nervously grabbed Madam Lin's arm.
“Linglong and Qiaohua will be getting married in a few years. You can’t let your two granddaughters be harmed for the sake of Aunt Lin alone.”
Madam Lin flung Li's hand away, glared at her, and scolded:
"Shut up!"
Seeing Madam Lin's words, Li assumed she was determined to help Aunt Lin resolve the matter, and thus angrily retorted:
"You can't be foolish! If we make a big fuss about this, Aunt Lin won't be able to stay in the Prince's Mansion anymore. Do you really want her to come back to the Lin family with us? Even if you agree, the elders of the Lin family won't agree. Doing this would ruin the reputation of our whole family!"
Madam Lin was really annoyed by Li's nagging. How could she not know the seriousness of the matter? But Li had no sense at all and actually spoke her mind in front of the Princess and the Prince.
It seems there's no way I'll be able to see Aunt Lin today. So there's no need for me to linger at the Prince's residence any longer, lest they really escalate the matter to the Shuntian Prefecture and things get messy.
Thinking this, Madam Lin stood up and smiled at the Princess and Ning Zixuan.
"Your Highness is too kind. This is a family matter of your royal family. Since the princess has already made her decision, we shouldn't say anything more. After all, we are just outsiders. We have things to do at home and can't stay out for too long, so we won't disturb the princess's rest any longer."
After saying this, he pulled up the still-stunned Li Shi, bowed to the Princess, and left.
Ning Zixuan frowned as he watched the two figures leave.
"It seems the Lin family has already noticed something. We must act quickly."
Jiang Yuwei nodded.
"The Lin family came today to sound them out. Now, Madam Lin seems to have known all along that Aunt Lin was going to make a move against the Princess. She was quite calm when she heard me speak just now."
Ning Zixuan turned around and looked at the princess, asking with concern:
"Mother, you don't look well. Did you spend the whole morning dealing with them and your body can't take it anymore?"
The princess waved her hand.
"It's alright. With Yuwei here, you don't need to worry about me. I haven't seen you for the past few days, and I wonder how your marriage with Miss Wang is going?"
Upon hearing this, Ning Zixuan scratched his head shyly.
"I asked her out once before, and we had a good chat. The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon, and I've already made plans to go see the lanterns with her."
Seeing that Ning Zixuan had met someone he liked and knew how to take the initiative to ask a woman out, the princess was relieved and waved her hand, saying:
"Okay, you go ahead and get busy. Yuwei will be giving me acupuncture later."
Ning Zixuan nodded, then turned to look at Jiang Yuwei.
"Sister-in-law, I'll be going now. I'll leave my mother in your care."
Jiang Yuwei smiled and nodded at Ning Zixuan.
After Ning Zixuan left, Jiang Yuwei began to perform acupuncture on the princess.
After finishing her work, the princess felt much better and then said to Jiang Yuwei:
"Go back and pack your things. This afternoon, we'll take the gifts to the princess's residence and see if she'll accept Ning Wan as a student there."
Jiang Yuwei nodded and took Ning Wan back to Jinglan Pavilion to tidy up properly. She also instructed Ning Wan to pay attention to etiquette when they arrived there before taking Ning Wan to Diancui Courtyard.
Seeing that the two were ready, the princess had her maid bring out the writing implements she had prepared beforehand, and together they boarded the carriage and headed towards the princess's residence.
“Princess Chang Le doesn’t like vulgar things like rouge and powder, but she likes things like writing and painting. So I ordered people to prepare the best writing brushes, ink, paper and inkstones, so that they can touch her heart.”
As she spoke, the princess patted Ning Wan's head.
"Wan'er, don't be nervous. With your intelligence, Princess Chang Le will definitely accept you."
Jiang Yuwei smiled at the princess.
"So, Princess Chang Le is quite a special person."
The princess nodded.
"Well, she's already in her thirties and doesn't even have a husband yet. She spends her days running a private school in her own residence, teaching girls to read. But because of her outstanding talent and her status as a princess, no one dares to say anything to her, and everyone respects her very much."
As she spoke, the princess reached out and straightened Ning Wan's clothes.
“In this capital, all the noble families consider it an honor to send their daughters to study at the princess’s residence. This trend has now become a competition. However, Princess Chang Le does not tolerate these people. She does not accept just any good-for-nothing.”
Jiang Yuwei smiled and nodded.
"Yes, if Wan'er can really stay in the princess's residence to study in the future, I will be at ease. I believe Princess Chang Le will be able to teach her well."
As the two were talking, the carriage arrived at the entrance of the princess's residence. Jiang Yuwei got off the carriage first, then helped the princess off the carriage, and then carried Ning Wan down from the carriage.
The three of them stood at the gate of the princess's residence, staring blankly at the tightly closed gate for a moment. Then the princess instructed her maid to go and knock on the door.
"Someone come here! Is anyone home? Princess Jing has come to visit Princess Chang Le. Is anyone inside?"
Wang Ma called for a long time, but no one came out to open the door.
