As soon as the oxcart entered the village, Jiang Yuwei got off with her two children and shouted to Sun Shi:
"I need to go cut some pig feed; I haven't fed the pigs yet. Come with me."
Sun had been curious to see what Jiang Yuwei was up to when she got out of the car so hastily, but when she heard that she was going to cut pig feed, she said with a look of disgust:
“Cutting pig feed is your job, why do you want to drag me into it? Humph, I’m not going.”
As he spoke, he hurriedly urged Uncle Ning, who was driving the oxcart:
"Fifth Uncle, hurry up and go, I need to get back to cook dinner."
Jiang Yuwei watched the oxcart head towards the village, then felt relieved and led the two children to cut pig feed. She first had Ning Zhao lead Ning Wan to the slope in front to cut grass, while she carried a basket on her back and found a secluded spot to put everything in the basket into her spatial storage before going to find the two children.
Ning Zhao was startled to see that Jiang Yuwei's basket was empty. Jiang Yuwei quickly reassured her:
"We can't tell our family about how much money we made today. Also, I've hidden all the things we bought at the market. I'll come back secretly to get them when we need them, so your grandma and the others won't find out and take them all."
Ning Zhao naturally understood the Ning family. When his mother was alive, they had suffered a lot of bullying from them, but his mother would only swallow her anger and endure it. This bride seemed very clever. Thinking this, Ning Zhao smiled sweetly at Jiang Yuwei and said:
"Don't worry, Mother, I won't tell."
She covered her mouth with her little hand as she spoke.
Jiang Yuwei smiled and patted Ning Zhao's head, saying:
"Zhao'er, thank you for accompanying me to sell straw sandals today. I will send you to school when I earn money in the future."
When Ning Zhao heard that Jiang Yuwei wanted to send him to school, his heart was instantly warmed. It was a warmth he had never experienced before. In Ningjia Village, only Ning Chen from the village head's family could go to school.
He used to envy Ning Chen when he saw him carrying his schoolbag on the roadside. Now he could go to school too? He could almost imagine going to school with Ning Chen in the future.
Jiang Yuwei, unaware of Ning Zhao's inner turmoil, quickly cut a basketful of pig feed and then took the two children home before nightfall.
As soon as Jiang Yuwei stepped across the threshold, she heard Chen Guixiang yelling in the yard:
"That little whore, she doesn't even deserve to go to the market! Does she have some silver hidden on her? Go, search her house!"
Hearing this, Jiang Yuwei's face darkened. She put down her basket, walked up to Chen Guixiang, and said coldly:
"Who is Mother-in-law referring to?"
Chen Guixiang didn't expect Jiang Yuwei to come back so quickly. Looking at Jiang Yuwei's gloomy face, the curses that were on the tip of her tongue seemed to lose their power.
"You, you finally know how to come back! We haven't seen you all day!"
Jiang Yuwei pointed to the basket by the door and said:
"My wife went to cut pig feed. There wasn't enough pig feed today, so it took her some effort and she came back late."
Seeing this, Madam Sun rushed out of the house and pointed to the basket, saying:
"Mom, it's this basket! I clearly saw her buy a basket full of things, go and take a look!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Guixiang's eyes lit up, and she turned to walk towards the basket by the door. Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly blocked her way and said in a deep voice:
"Mother-in-law, you really don't trust me? Just now you were going to search my room, and now you've been instigated to search my basket? Don't you think that if my family had money to support me, why would they have sent me to the Ning family to be a widow?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Guixiang paused, pondered for a moment, and felt that what Jiang Yuwei said seemed to make some sense. She then turned back and hesitantly looked at Madam Sun, asking:
"Did you really see that the basket she carried was full of good stuff?"
Madam Sun nodded very firmly and said:
“Mother, I’m sure my wife has been hiding money from you. Go and check.”
Upon seeing this, Jiang Yuwei burst into tears:
"I've only been here a few days, do you really intend to force me to my death like you did Ning Zhao's own mother?"
When Chen Guixiang heard Jiang Yuwei mention Ning Laoda's ex-wife, her expression changed, and she grabbed Jiang Yuwei's hand urgently, asking:
"What did you say? You... what nonsense are you spouting? Don't you dare go around telling everyone! Who, who's been gossiping in your ear?"
Seeing Chen Guixiang's behavior, Jiang Yuwei knew that Ning Laoda's ex-wife must not have died from illness. This gave her leverage over Chen Guixiang. Now, she only needed to put in some more effort to find out how she actually died.
Seeing that Chen Guixiang was still anxiously asking who had revealed these things to her, Jiang Yuwei glanced meaningfully at Madam Sun.
Seeing this, Madam Sun quickly waved her hand and said:
"Mother, it wasn't me. I didn't say anything. She died such a tragic death, how could I..."
Seeing Sun's brainless behavior, Chen Guixiang trembled with anger and shouted loudly:
"Shut up! Get back inside!"
Seeing this, Madam Sun dared not say anything more and hurriedly pulled Ningxin, who was still eating candied hawthorns, into her room.
Jiang Yuwei, sobbing, took the basket and emptied it all out in front of Chen Guixiang. Then she and Ning Zhao took pig feed to feed the pigs.
Chen Guixiang naturally kept a close eye on things, afraid that she might have missed something. She left disappointed when she saw Jiang Yuwei finish feeding the pigs and then feed the chickens, only to find that the basket was empty except for pig feed.
After Jiang Yuwei finished her work, she took her two children to the kitchen, where each of them drank a bowl of rice porridge before returning to their room.
In recent days, Jiang Yuwei discovered a miraculous phenomenon: bathing in the spiritual spring water made her previously rough skin become smooth and delicate. So, she secretly fetched some spiritual spring water to wash her two children. She even replaced their drinking water with the precious spiritual spring water.
After settling the two little ones down to sleep, Jiang Yuwei finally had some free time. She entered her spatial dimension, took out all the soybeans she had bought during the day, and soaked them in the magical spring water.
She planned to use these soybeans to sprout beans and sow seeds of hope in that barren field. After all, the fertile land was just lying fallow anyway, so she might as well bring it to life.
In the quiet space, she gently unfolded the fabric she had chosen for her two children during the day. Following the carefully measured dimensions, she began sewing clothes for them. This wasn't originally a skill she possessed, but since inheriting the original owner's memories and skills, she seemed to have mastered a new life skill.
Looking back, the original owner's father was addicted to gambling, and the burden of the family forced her to make a living by sewing clothes, earning meager wages to make ends meet.
Her needle and thread moved swiftly across the fabric, but her thoughts drifted far away. She didn't know what the future held, but at least for now, she could sew warm clothes for the children, bringing them a mother's love and care.
In this world full of unknowns, she is determined to use her own hands to create a warm home for the children.
With these thoughts in mind, Jiang Yuwei's needle and thread never stopped. She was skillful and dexterous; in no time, two exquisite little garments were born from her hands. She smiled contentedly, gently folded the clothes, and stepped out of the space.
Night had fallen, and all was quiet. Jiang Yuwei tiptoed to the children's bedside and gently placed the newly made clothes beside their pillows. Gazing at their sleeping faces, a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
Exhaustion washed over her, and Jiang Yuwei returned to her bed, quickly falling into a deep sleep. Moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating her face and adding to her tranquility and gentleness.
In her dream, she seemed to see the joyful scene of children wearing new clothes, and a smile involuntarily crept onto her lips.
