A glint of light flashed in Jiang Shaozhen's eyes. "Yes. He'll be in the provincial capital the day after tomorrow."
"Help me schedule a time," Shen Mingzhi said, then turned to leave.
"Zhizhi." Jiang Shaozhen called out to her, "Tomorrow... will you be home to see the children? And it's my dad's birthday."
Shen Mingzhi, with her back to him, hesitated for a moment before finally giving in, "Yes."
She didn't turn around, so she didn't see the glint that flashed in Jiang Shao Chen's eyes.
The following evening, Shen Mingzhi returned to the Jiang family home.
Jiang Qing felt extremely uncomfortable upon seeing her.
Jiang Shaozhen stood to the side, his gaze fixed on Shen Mingzhi. She was wearing a light blue shirt today, her hair loosely tied up, looking much gentler than when she was at the factory.
At the dinner table, Jiang Qing still put some food on Shen Mingzhi's plate, saying, "I heard your factory's new products are selling well?"
Shen Mingzhi nodded. "It's alright."
"Shao Chen said you still want to develop a high-end series?" Jiang Qing asked again.
Shen Mingzhi glanced at Jiang Shaozhen; he certainly had a quick tongue.
"I do plan to," she replied briefly.
Jiang Qing suddenly put down her chopsticks, sighed, and said, "What happened before... was Mom's fault."
A hush fell over the dinner table. Shen Mingzhi hadn't expected Jiang Qing to apologize so suddenly and was momentarily at a loss for words.
Jiang Shaozhen changed the subject at the right moment, "Let's eat first. She hasn't been eating anything good at the factory lately."
The atmosphere eased, but Shen Mingzhi remained absent-minded. Watching Jiang Shaozhen patiently serve her food, and seeing Jiang Qing and Jiang Guofu being so careful, she felt uneasy.
After the meal, Jiang Shaozhen saw them to the door, saying, "I'll pick you up the day after tomorrow."
