Chapter 1 Whose life is wanted?
"Oh, Lao An, it's so hard to be a stepmother. Tell me, have they had less food and clothes in the seven years since I got married? I've never hit them or scolded them, right?
We are the only two people in the family who work formally, but we have a lot of children. We still grit our teeth and tighten our belts to support them until they graduate from high school.
Our neighbors are all in such a condition. We can’t just eat coarse food while they eat meat, eggs and milk all day and wear new clothes every year, right?”
"Lao Kang, what are you talking about? I can see how good you are," the man said after a long silence.
"Going to the countryside to support construction is the general trend now. It is a mandatory requirement from above. If others can go, why can't they, the brother and sister? At least they won't go hungry in the countryside, and they don't have to worry about being posted with big-character posters all day long. When the storm is over, I will step down and give my position to Zhiqiu. By then, maybe our family can even give him a house as a new home!"
The man took a deep puff of cigarette, "No need, there are more than just two children in the family, how can they take all the benefits? Give your place to Zhiqiu, no more!"
The woman secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but she still sobbed and wiped her tears, "They are both trying to kill me. Even if it's just a cat or a dog, they can develop feelings for each other after seven years. If there is any possibility, I won't let them go to the countryside to suffer."
"Enough!" The door was suddenly pushed open, and the thin and handsome man named Zhiqiu said in a low voice with a red face: "My sister is sick and unconscious, and instead of giving her money for medical treatment, you are planning to send us to the countryside?"
"Here, all our money is used to take care of you," the woman said first, "You study every day and don't know how to get along with others. There are also rules for where to be assigned to in the countryside. For this matter, your father and I ran around to borrow money." She gritted her teeth and took out fifty cents from her pocket and stuffed it into her husband's hand: "This is the last money for our family to buy food. You can do whatever you want with it."
"Zhiqiu, get some medicine for your sister," Father An frowned and said unhappily, "You know the situation at home. It's such a mess, and you're still ignorant and get sick to make things worse."
"You are so ignorant that you get sick and cause trouble?" Zhiqiu felt a chill in his heart and said sarcastically, "Zhixia's winter clothes are made of old cotton that has been used for many years. How warm can they be? Every day she carries water, washes clothes and dishes at home, and collects firewood more than ten miles away. Her hands, face, and ears are all covered with sores. It snowed heavily the other day. It would be strange if she didn't get sick!"
"No one asked her to go in the snow," said An's father, who stood up and slammed the table after being scolded by his son. "Don't think that just because your mother is gone, our whole family owes you! I tell you, even if Zhixia dies tomorrow, she has to lie down on the train!"
"Lao Kang, pack some luggage and food for them now, and I will take them there personally tomorrow morning," after saying this, he slammed the door and left.
Without a man, Kang Xiaohua stopped pretending and sneered, holding her chest, "The An family has no shortage of sons or daughters. Now your father only listens to me. I advise you two brothers and sisters to leave wisely and don't think about taking over my and your father's jobs.
Maybe when Zhixia is older, I can find her a good marriage and let you two return to the city."
"You have no right to interfere in Zhixia's marriage," An Zhiqiu took a step forward, clenched his fists and gritted his teeth as he shouted, "If you have any bad intentions towards her, I will make your children suffer!"
"You, you dare," Kang Xiaohua was frightened, and then retreated to the front of her house, not giving up and whispering to save face: "Do you think I was scared? Let me tell you, I didn't spend any money to take care of you. Instead, I took money from others and asked you to go to the mountains for others. Humph, you dare to speak harshly to me, you are so capable."
After she finished speaking, she immediately went into the house, smiling rather proudly through the crack of the door, "Actually, it's Guoqiang and Lijuan who should go to the countryside. Tsk tsk, it's a pity that they will go to work in the factory and become regular employees next year, so you have to go to the countryside to suffer for my children! Oh, by the way, An Zhiqiu and An Zhixia are listed on the list, and the train is tomorrow morning. Now you know that there is nothing you can do except be furious, after all, it was your biological father who agreed."
An Zhiqiu closed his eyes, his Adam's apple rolling up and down, holding the fifty cents in his hand, and not daring to delay, he strode out to buy medicine.
In the dim and small room, a few wooden boards were piled on a bed made of bricks. A girl with messy hair had a flushed face and a pair of bright almond-shaped eyes looked at everything unfamiliar around her. The voices in her ears finally died down, and the memories in her drowsy brain flooded in.
This is the 18 years of a dull life of a girl named An Zhixia. Her mother died of a work-related injury eight years ago, and her father married Kang Xiaohua, a widow with a pair of children, the following year. Kang Xiaohua took over the job of the original owner's mother and swore in front of the leaders of the unit that she would support the two children to graduate from high school, otherwise the brother and sister would have dropped out of school long ago.
He sighed silently. He realized that he was born in the 21st century and was a second-generation rich man whose father didn't care about him and whose stepmother didn't love him. He entered the entertainment industry for fun and made a name for himself with his intelligence and unwillingness to admit defeat. He just went to his bestie's newly opened supermarket to have some fun, but he slipped on his 15-centimeter high heels and came to the year 1972.
She felt weak all over due to the high fever and her head was dizzy. If it were in modern times, she would take some ibuprofen, drink some cold medicine, take a good night's sleep and sweat a little, and she would be full of energy the next day.
But when she got here and heard the noise outside, it seemed like she had no right to be sick.
I’m afraid the original owner was burned to death?
Just as she was thinking, two medicine boxes suddenly appeared in her hands. She half-raised herself in shock and held the things in front of her eyes. She confirmed several times in the dim light and found that it was indeed the brand she usually used.
It clearly said on it that it was produced on December 20, 2019. Before she could continue to be surprised, the complete appearance of her best friend's supermarket appeared in her mind, like a bird's-eye view, but she could quickly find everything she wanted.
Portable space? Or a large supermarket that can meet people's basic needs!
If we can be reborn in 1972, what is impossible?
As her emotions fluctuated greatly, her body felt more and more uncomfortable. She gritted her teeth and used her mind to get a cup of warm water from the water dispenser. She took the medicine and fell asleep.
"Zhixia, get up and have a bowl of porridge, take the medicine and then go to sleep." An Zhiqiu came back at some point, holding a mottled enamel jar in one hand and two blue medicine pills in the other.
An Zhixia's hair was wet with sweat, and her whole body was visibly lighter. She looked at her cheap little brother who was full of concern, and obediently sat up with his help, drinking small sips of the warm porridge.
"Brother," she called out awkwardly, "where did the millet porridge come from? Have you had dinner?"
