Chapter 8 Learned a couple of tricks
An Zhixia pursed her lips and smiled, then shook her head. Without waiting for a reply, Chen Sike, who pushed the door open, snorted, "She doesn't like your precious fried noodles. She eats rice and fried pork slices for lunch. You generously let her taste it, but I wonder if she is willing to let you have a taste?"
Fei Zheng frowned and ate the porridge in big mouthfuls without saying a word.
An Zhixia glanced at Chen Sike and sneered, "Ugly."
"What did you say? Ugly? Look around our room, is there anyone uglier than you? Your face is as red as a monkey's butt, how dare you say that to others?" Chen Sike jumped up and down in anger, holding out her hands and said angrily. She actually looked very ordinary, not tall, not outstanding facial features, and even drinking water would make her gain weight. Except for her fair skin, she didn't meet the standard of a pretty lady in any other way, and at most she could only get a cute compliment.
This is what she cares about the most. How could she not be furious if it was discovered?
"I'm ugly?" An Zhixia said, "It seems that your aesthetic sense is very problematic. Apart from frostbite, which of my facial features is not pleasing to your eyes? Well, is it because I am shorter and fatter than you?"
"You, you," Chen Sike's eyes turned red with anger, "You're making personal attacks! You're a bad comrade. You've just arrived here and you've destroyed the unity of the masses. We don't welcome you. Go back to where you came from!"
An Zhixia groaned fiercely at the finger that was about to point at her eyes, frightening the other party to quickly withdraw it. She kept moving her hands and said slowly, "Haven't you heard a saying? People must humiliate themselves before humiliating others. What I said at the beginning was ugly because of your attitude and expression of provoking others, not because of your poor conditions.
Don't think you are superior and think everyone is inferior. We don't eat your food and we don't owe you money, so why should we act according to your mood?
Also, where we were assigned was a document issued by the Kyoto Youth League, and it cannot be changed just because you say you are not welcome.
If you have the time, you might as well go out and help with the cooking, so you don’t end up being sold out and counting money for others.”
Chen Sike was so blocked that she couldn't speak. After taking a deep breath, she walked away with a huff, swinging her thick braid.
"Xiao An, the educated youth, we are all living under the same roof. It's not good to be too hostile to them, right?" Although it was quite gratifying, Fei Zheng said hesitantly with bright eyes when she heard Chen Sike sobbing and complaining in the next room.
"I have suffered so much injustice from my stepmother, but what did I get in return? Wasn't she just dismissed? I told myself that I would never suffer any loss or injustice in the future. Instead of pretending to be nice to others, I'd rather be open and not give them the opportunity to bully me."
Fei Zheng was stunned for a moment, and murmured: "Who said it wasn't true? But how many people can do it?"
Without saying anything else, An Zhixia continued to sew the quilt cover she prepared for her brother. The quilt cover had a gray-green lining and a linen-gray exterior, made of thick yet soft cotton cloth. Zipper styles weren't very good-looking nowadays, so she used wooden-colored buttons instead.
She prepared a quilt cover for herself with a gray-purple lining and a white exterior with purple floral patterns.
There was no need for fine cutting, and the stitches were thick. She held the needle and moved it very quickly, like a two-year recruit who was racing against time.
When the stove was freed up, two beautiful, comfortable and warm quilts, each 1.8 meters long and weighing 1.6 kilograms, came out of the oven. She used the original bed as her bedding, covered it with a layer of gray-purple sheets, folded the quilt, and covered the buckwheat pillow with leather of the same color. Her own little nest finally took shape.
Under Fei Zheng's envious gaze, she went to the next room with another quilt, pillow and bed sheet. After helping her brother make the bed, the brother and sister went to the kitchen to cook together.
Although she couldn't use an electric rice cooker, the rice steamed in the wood stove was sweeter and more tasty. Thinking that her brother ate a lot, she directly steamed a small porcelain bowl. She stewed the potatoes until they were very soft, and the soup was thick and full of meat flavor, which was very delicious when poured over the rice.
With a bowl of warm brown sugar water, the brother and sister were definitely full.
"Sister, your cooking skills are amazing. They are even better than the meat buns we bought at the station. This is the life people should live," An Zhiqiu sighed, touching his belly. "Tomorrow I have to work harder and hunt more wild animals. Let's strive to have a good year!"
"Brother, don't rush forward foolishly tomorrow," An Zhixia frowned and worriedly warned, "Wild animals in the mountains are very fierce in winter. You don't have much experience, so follow others and do some errands. When your physical fitness improves, it won't be too late to let go next year.
Besides, there will be a market tomorrow, I will see if I can buy some meat."
"Of course, your brother is not stupid. Don't worry, I value my life," he consciously washed the pots and dishes, using a bottle of odorless, non-foaming detergent.
After cleaning up, the hot water in another pot also boiled. An Zhixia took a few white gauze and soaked them in hot water, and applied them to the sores on her face, hands and ears. She also applied them to her brother. The warm cloth on his face made the chilblains a little painful and itchy.
After applying hot compress for about ten minutes, she wiped it clean with a clean towel and carefully applied a thick layer of antifreeze cream.
"I'm a grown man, I don't need to be so particular," An Zhiqiu muttered, but he still felt sweet in his heart and let the girl do whatever she wanted.
"I will become beautiful in the future. I can't have a brother who is unkempt and lazy, right?"
"I knew you were such a heartless person who despised me." After leaving that depressing home, he felt like a completely new person. Seeing his sister become more lively day by day, he was happy from the bottom of his heart.
After sending off her brother who had suddenly become sentimental, An Zhixia began to make cotton-padded clothes for herself and her brother.
She hasn't worn the clumsy and bulky handmade cotton coats and pants since the third grade of elementary school, but now she has to make them herself.
The original owner's mother was a maid in a rich family. She knew many things, but her best skill was needlework, which was lifelike. Unfortunately, times had changed, and she could only hide her incompetence and become an ordinary female worker in a garment factory. Unwilling to give up, she secretly passed on everything she had learned to her daughter.
An Zhixia is a star. Since she has made a name for herself, she must have learned a lot. Combining the two, plus the supermarket plug-in and the foresight for the next fifty years, all she needs is the spring breeze of reform, and she will be able to soar to the sky and continue to live a carefree life!
Back to reality, An Zhixia resigned herself to taking out a soft blue and white checkered cotton lining and a dark blue cotton cover. She didn't need to measure or mark, and she cut with scissors according to her brother's size. She violently dismantled four long, old-fashioned down jackets and filled the cotton with white duck down according to the method of making a quilt.
Seeing her working hard on the cotton-padded jackets, and having already made two in just an hour, Fei Zheng opened her mouth in amazement and couldn't help but say, "You are really capable."
"My mother used to be a worker in a garment factory, and I learned a few skills from her," An Zhixia smiled and rubbed her sore neck, weighing the cotton-padded jacket with satisfaction. The cotton-padded jacket was not very heavy but was quite cold-resistant!
