Chapter 10
The person lying there was an elderly man with white hair.
Chen Miaoyin turned to look at Han Meng, her voice trembling: "Miss, the one lying here... really is a dead person."
Living people don't develop lividity or smell that bad.
Han Meng covered her mouth and nose and calmly asked, "Miaoyin, can you tell how long this person has been dead?"
Chen Miaoyin ran back to her side: "It should be... two or three days."
Han Meng stepped forward and questioned the burly men dressed in mourning clothes: "Someone died two or three days ago, and now they're coming to our pharmacy to cause trouble? Who are the family members? How can you be so irresponsible?"
The leader declared defiantly, "It's me! This is my father's corpse! My father died because he took your family's medicine!"
This person was much taller than Han Meng, about 1.9 meters tall, and very imposing.
Chen Miaoyin was a little worried about her and wanted to pull her away from that person.
Han Meng turned around and gave Chen Miaoyin a wink, reassuring her.
Facing the tall, menacing stranger before her, Han Meng would be lying if she said she wasn't afraid. But she knew that in times like these, she couldn't back down, otherwise the bad guys would only bully her even more.
She said neither humbly nor arrogantly, "Sir, words are not enough. Please verify the cause of your father's death."
The burly man produced a prescription and showed it to everyone: "You want evidence? Here is the evidence! Isn't this the medicine prescribed by your pharmacy staff?"
Han Meng took the prescription and showed it to the old Chinese medicine doctor.
The old Chinese medicine doctor's face was grave. After a long silence, he finally spoke: "This... the prescription was indeed written by me, but these medicines could absolutely not kill anyone, I..."
Facing the traditional Chinese medicine doctor, Han Meng softened her tone: "Don't panic, I trust you."
"Then there's something wrong with the medicine!"
"Yes! It's fake medicine!"
Others dressed in mourning clothes also started to lead the way.
Perhaps hearing the commotion, a large crowd gathered outside the pharmacy. It's unclear whether any of them were hidden troublemakers who joined in the commotion.
"Is this Chinese medicine pharmacy newly opened? I've never heard of it before. Could it really be selling counterfeit medicine?"
"Huh? I bought medicine here just two days ago, does that mean I can't take it either?"
"If you ask me, the most reliable ones are the well-established, long-established pharmacies. For example, the Jishi Pharmacy nearby has never had a case of someone dying from its medicine."
Diagonally opposite the Chinese medicine pharmacy is indeed a Western medicine store with a nationwide chain. In the past, the Chinese medicine pharmacy's business was not good, partly because it lacked brand recognition, but also because this well-known Western medicine store was nearby.
Of course, these troublemakers probably didn't expect that the two owners of the Western medicine shop were also among the onlookers.
"Oh no, how did we get blamed for this? What are we going to do, Lu Jinxian?"
Guo Yihan shook Lu Jinxian's arm forcefully.
Lu Jinxian: "Stop shaking me, or I'll get dizzy."
"Then you should think of a solution! Regardless of whether they actually bought counterfeit medicine or not, we can't afford to make Western pharmacies look bad!"
“Of course it’s not fake medicine.” Lu Jinxian looked at Han Meng, who was arguing with someone in the Chinese medicine pharmacy.
She can deliver medicine for free to complete strangers and is fearless in the face of adversity. How could someone like her possibly take the risk of selling counterfeit medicine?
Inside the pharmacy, those people couldn't argue with Han Meng and were secretly considering smashing up the shop.
Han Meng: "If you think we killed your father, you can call the police and let the officers investigate. But if you dare to touch even a single medicinal herb here, I will call the police and sue you for damaging other people's property!"
To show her support for Han Meng, Chen Miaoyin silently stood in front of the medicine cabinet, and the old Chinese medicine doctor and the accountant followed suit.
Han Meng raised an eyebrow, her eyes sharp: "If you dare to hurt my employees, I'll call the police too."
I advise you all to think this through. You're just employees; what difference does it make who you work for? Do you really want to sue me? I'm the daughter of the Han family, and who are you?
"You're bullying us! Everyone, don't believe her, let's smash this lousy shop together!"
The burly man at the head of the group was the most dedicated; he was the first to overturn the medicine cabinet next to him, scattering the medicine all over the floor.
However, his henchmen were somewhat cowardly and hesitated to make a move.
"Let's all smash it together! What are you standing there for! We're all relatives!"
Han Meng looked at these people and couldn't help but laugh: "Are you really relatives? You don't look alike! Let me see your household registration book."
"You're selling fake medicine and you still think you're right!"
The big man wanted to continue causing trouble, but found that he couldn't move the medicine cabinet. He looked up and saw a man leaning against the medicine cabinet.
Strange, I hadn't seen it a moment ago, and then it suddenly appeared.
The surprised people weren't just the troublemakers, but also Han Meng.
Lu Jinxian? What's he doing here?
The burly man tried to push him away, but he took the other man's hand, shaking it firmly while smiling amicably.
"Hey, sir, tell me, why are there still traces of sand on your father's body? Did you bury him and then dig him up? Isn't that a bit too filial?"
The other person glared angrily: "You... what nonsense are you talking about!"
The next instant, a cracking sound came from my hand, followed by a sharp pain.
But it wasn't him who cried out in pain; it was the other person, who was covering the hand they had just shaken with with their other hand and curling up to the side.
"If you dare hurt me, you're finished." He glared at the man.
Han Meng was also confused about what was going on. She quickly walked over to Lu Jinxian, squatted down, and asked, "Uh... do you need me to call the police?"
Lu Jinxian: "No need for that. My dad, my eldest brother, and my second eldest brother are all very good fighters."
Han Meng: ?
The burly man in mourning clothes: This disturbance seems to be developing in a strange direction. Shouldn't the purpose be to intimidate the Han family? How did it turn out so inexplicably?
Ouch, my hand hurts so much.
"Is there really dirt on the body?" Han Meng asked curiously. Following Lu Jinxian's gaze, she saw that there were indeed traces of sand on the body's clothes.
Although the origin of the body is unknown, it's pitiful that a dead person would be dug up and used.
Han Meng sighed, "That's really going too far..."
At this moment, another group of people entered the traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, even bringing children. "They couldn't possibly be selling fake medicine! We can testify!"
Han Meng looked up and was slightly taken aback.
It turned out to be a father and daughter from Xiqin Village, regular customers of the traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy!
