Chapter Seven forces her to prove her innocence through death.

Lu Yun screamed in fright and quickly pulled her feet back to avoid getting her skirt dirty.

When she cautiously raised her eyes, she saw Wei Jing silently observing her, taking in every change in her expression.

She was truly terrified. Although she knew Wei Jing was ruthless, she had not expected him to have such swift and decisive methods, which was truly frightening.

But Lu Yun absolutely could not admit it, otherwise she would have no place in the Imperial Household Department in the future!

"You wicked scoundrel! I have no grudge against you, why are you framing me?"

Lu Yun cried uncontrollably, almost unable to catch her breath.

"When did I ask you to poison the Second Young Master? If it weren't for the Second Young Master, Heng'er and I wouldn't have been able to come to the Wei residence alive. You're trying to force me to my death with these words!"

The servant was slightly taken aback upon hearing this, his voice shrill, "It was you! You were the one who ordered me to do this! Why don't you dare admit it!"

“I took three taels of silver from you, and you said you'd give me another ten taels after the job was done. Second Young Master, I really didn't lie to you, it's this woman…”

Facing Wei Jing's probing dark eyes, Lu Yun gritted her teeth, stood up shakily, and looked at Hong Zhu to the side with a death-defying expression.

"I have only managed to survive thanks to the Second Young Master, but now I have been framed by villains and have no way to defend myself. The only way to prove my innocence is to die."

"I'll trouble the Second Young Master and the Old Madam to raise Heng'er well. As his mother, I won't stay with him any longer!"

After saying that, he rushed toward a pillar to the side.

"Madam Lu!" the maid Shuangfen screamed in alarm.

Wei Jing snapped out of his daze, leaped forward to stop her, and subtly pushed her back.

Immediately, the master and servant burst into tears, their cries so heart-wrenching and genuine, that there was no sign of them faking it.

Wei Jing's eyes were deep and unfathomable. Just as he was about to ask another question, a childish voice rang out.

"Mother, what are you doing?"

Wei Heng seemed to have just woken up, and with her wet nurse by her side, she staggered toward her mother.

A glint of inspiration flashed in Lu Yun's eyes, and she quickly pulled him over, pretending to casually guide Wei Heng to face forward.

As I opened my eyes, I happened to see the figure of that bloody, fleshy mass!

Instantly, the child's piercing cries echoed through the sky, causing a sharp pain in the eardrums.

"Mom, I'm scared! What is that? I'm so scared..."

"Heng'er!"

Lu Yun hugged him tightly, patted his back gently, and looked up at Wei Jing with shame and indignation.

"Second Young Master, you may doubt me. I am but a frail old man, and my death is insignificant! But Heng'er is just a child. How can he sleep peacefully at night after such a bloody scene? He is Wei Lang's only bloodline. If he suffers a seizure and dies, can you bear the responsibility?"

Amidst the relentless questioning, tears streamed down her face, but her right hand, out of Wei Jing's sight, twisted her hand hard once more.

Wei Heng cried out in pain and immediately started crying even louder.

Wei Jing had a splitting headache, and her questioning echoed in his ears. Whenever his elder brother was mentioned, he was ultimately powerless to refute her. He raised his hand and bowed to Lu Yun.

"I was presumptuous in this matter. Miss Lu and my brother are in love and live in harmony. They would never do such an outrageous thing. I spoke recklessly."

After saying this, he instructed his attendant Qingfeng.

"Drag this traitorous, liar away and give him twenty strokes of the cane, then expel him from the Wei family and never employ him again!"

Qingfeng's eyes were complicated. He glanced at Lu Yun, then bowed and said no more.

"yes."

Wei Heng cried incessantly, which distressed Wei Jing greatly.

"I apologize for any offense I may have caused today, Miss Lu."

Lu Yun stared intently at his retreating figure until he disappeared from sight. Suddenly, all her strength vanished, and she collapsed to the ground, trembling as she held her child.

"Shuangbin, spread the word that Second Master just came to our courtyard. There's no need to do it today; just let it reach the Old Madam's ears in the next few days!"

"Yes, this servant will go right away." Shuangbin received the order and hurriedly got up to leave.

Lu Yun gently coaxed Wei Heng while pondering the matter carefully in her heart.

She hadn't expected Wei Jing to so easily identify the person who had drugged her and then pinpoint her.

Fortunately, Heng'er covered for her today, which allowed her to escape unscathed, but Wei Jing's suspicions must still remain.

If we try to do something again after that, it will be difficult.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, so she has to get at least one of them!

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

Inside Sufeng Courtyard, Jiang Mingwei lay on a soft couch in the long corridor, covered with a fox fur coat, her face haggard.

Hua Cui held the medicine bowl to her lips, but after only two sips, Jiang Mingwei refused to drink anymore, making her stomp her feet in frustration.

"Miss, please drink some more. Ever since you caught a chill that day, you've had a persistent low-grade fever. The doctor said that if you don't recover soon, it could turn into a serious illness!"

Jiang Mingwei's face scrunched up in distress.

She had taken Chinese medicine before, but the Chinese medicine that the ancients drank was actually a modern Plus version!

It's so hard, just like her life...

"Good flower extract, I'm really fine, just let me sleep for a while!"

"No, I must watch you finish it. If you find it too bitter, I'll go get you two candied fruits."

Jiang Mingwei's eyes lit up. "That's a good idea."

Hua Cui nodded, placed the medicine bowl aside, and went inside.

Unbeknownst to them, Jiang Mingwei secretly got up and poured out a third of the medicine bowl along the flower wall under the corridor.

Seeing that no one was around, he happily lay down on the soft couch and pretended to be asleep.

Unbeknownst to her, her "self-righteous" actions were witnessed by the man at the courtyard gate.

Wei Jing's eyes were smiling, and his stern expression relaxed.

His sister-in-law was truly more interesting than he had imagined!

Just as he was about to step into the courtyard to inquire about Jiang Mingwei's health, Qingfeng rushed in to report.

"Second Master, the Old Madam wants you to go there."

"now?"

Wei Jing frowned. "Did you say something?"

"No," Qingfeng shook his head. "However, Miss Lu was also there, and the old lady looked displeased, probably because of the interrogation that day!"

Wei Jing stared at Jiang Mingwei for a moment, then turned away.

"Let's go take a look."

After the two left, Jiang Mingwei slowly raised her eyes and looked at the empty doorway, her delicate brows slightly furrowed.

Strange, why did she feel like someone was watching her from the doorway just now?

On the way, Qingfeng held back for a long time, but finally couldn't help but speak out.

"Second Master, I wanted to tell you that day that Lu Shi clearly had something to hide, and her attempts to kill herself were just excuses. Why didn't you pursue the matter later?"

"If we continue the investigation, we'll definitely find the culprit who drugged us!"

Wei Jing glanced at him sideways and warned him.

"Say such things to my face, but don't say them outside."

“But…” Qingfeng was so anxious that he scratched his head.

“I saw her and my elder brother inseparable in the army. I think the two of them have some feelings for each other. I can’t bear to hurt the brothers’ relationship because of this.”

Wei Jing remained calm, but Qingfeng pursed his lips.

When the person is gone, what's the point of talking about brotherhood?

Before long, the two arrived at the old lady's Sleeping Wind Pavilion.

She sat upright in the main seat of the hall, with Lu Yun sitting sadly beside her.

Upon seeing Wei Jing, she hurriedly lowered her head, looking both frightened and pitiful.

Wei Jing stepped forward and bowed respectfully to the old lady. "I heard that Mother wants to see her son. May I ask what it is?"

The old lady snorted coldly, raised her cane, and slammed it heavily onto Wei Jing's shoulder.

"You vicious wretch, kneel down before me!"
