Chapter Twenty-Five: Misunderstandings with Her Brother

Jiang Mingwei didn't notice her bad complexion, and kept her head down fiddling with the hairpins.

“Of course I have to go back. Even if this hadn’t happened today, I was planning to go back and visit in the next few days. My father and mother are gone, but I still have an older brother.”

Based on the original owner's memories, Jiang Mingwei murmured, "He really is the Minister of Personnel, what a high-ranking official! I need to hurry up and get on his good side!"

Hua Cui paused in her combing motion.

Looking up at her tearful reflection in the bronze mirror, Jiang Mingwei suddenly felt uneasy.

"When you get home, you'll see your parents. Shouldn't you be happy? Why are you looking so long-faced?"

“Miss, I’m worried about you. You’re willing to go back, but the young master might not be…”

Before Hua Cui could finish speaking, Jiang Mingwei suddenly remembered something and slapped her forehead!

Oh no! She was too focused on her own life and death, and on battling that old hag Zhou, that she forgot about the original owner's family situation.

Nowadays, the Jiang family probably doesn't even want her to go back; they probably wish she were dead outside.

The original owner and her brother Jiang Mingjin were only two years apart in age, and they had a deep bond since childhood, sharing everything with each other.

In the Jiang family, the original owner was pampered and loved. Her parents and brothers doted on her.

Because she was too pampered, she developed a spoiled and domineering personality and never respected anyone.

Anyone who upsets her will definitely get revenge!

As she grew older, Jiang Mingjin reached the point where it was time to get married.

Jiang Mingjin was a man of outstanding character and talent from a young age. He passed the imperial examination with top honors and was accompanied by his father, who was the Grand Secretary. He rose through the ranks to become the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Personnel.

He can be considered the most promising young talent in the entire Nan Jing Kingdom, and naturally countless young girls are infatuated with him.

However, as the original owner's younger sister, she was furious at the thought of other women taking away her brother's affection, and secretly ruined Jiang Mingjin's marriage several times.

When Jiang Mingjin found out, he didn't blame her, but just told her to stop fooling around.

Arranged marriages by parents and matchmakers are never a joke; she shouldn't be spoiled like she was when she was a child.

But how could the original owner possibly listen?

Despite numerous obstacles, Jiang Mingjin eventually married the second daughter of Li Taifu's family.

The Li family girl was gentle and virtuous. Even though the original owner didn't like her, she couldn't find fault with her.

Gradually, their relationship improved considerably.

Unfortunately, the Li family's daughter later became pregnant, but she accidentally fell and miscarried!

That day, only the original owner was closest to her and tried to help her when she fell, but it was too late. Instead, because of that outstretched hand, many people present thought that she had pushed her sister-in-law!

Even though the Li family girl tried her best to defend the original owner, saying that she did not push her, the original owner had done too many bad things in the past.

Even if someone testifies for her, Jiang Mingjin will only think it's an act of covering up for her.

Jiang Mingjin could accept her younger sister's occasional tantrums when she was young, after all, she was her own sister.

But her biggest mistake was causing the death of his unborn child!

Since then, the relationship between the brother and sister has deteriorated rapidly, to the point where they almost never speak to each other again...

Not to mention, when Jiang Mingwei got married, Jiang Mingjin didn't even send her off.

After both parents passed away, the first wife was left all alone and without her brother's protection. Moreover, Zhou Shi was a ruthless person who would devour others without spitting out the bones. That's why she gradually became timid and lost her original domineering nature.

Even though her brother rose through the ranks and is now the Minister of Personnel, she hasn't benefited from it at all...

Recalling all of this, Jiang Mingwei sighed helplessly.

The original owner of this body was truly unlucky, with an unfortunate fate!

If she really had harmed that child, that would be one thing, but unfortunately, she had never harmed the child!

By then, she had already begun to like her sister-in-law.

But unexpectedly, disaster struck, and she honestly caught it all.

Seeing Jiang Mingwei's dejected expression and silent bowed head, Hua Cui sighed helplessly, realizing that her mistress was thinking about something sad again.

"Miss...shall we go back?"

Jiang Mingwei stroked the mother-of-pearl hairpin in her hand, her eyes gradually becoming clear and firm.

"We must go back!"

Hua Cui shrank her neck, still remembering how furious the usually gentle young master was when he lost his child that day.

His eyes were bloodshot, and he almost wanted to kill his young mistress!

I never expected the young lady to be so brave, knowing full well that there are tigers in the mountains, yet still venturing into the tiger's den.

"How can we not go back? Without anyone backing us, we can't stand up in this dog-eat-dog world!"

"If I really want a divorce, I'm afraid I'll have to ask an elder of the Jiang family to preside over it. Without my brother's intervention, it will be even more difficult! With him, everything will be much easier."

Jiang Mingwei murmured to herself, gazing at her charming face in the mirror, sketching out Jiang Mingjin's appearance in her mind.

Since the original owner was innocent, she naturally had no guilty conscience whatsoever.

Seeing that her mistress had made up her mind, Hua Cui said no more, only reminding her, "But Miss is already married, so even if she goes back, she will need a man to accompany her. Besides, if Miss goes back alone, Young Master probably won't see her. Why don't you ask him to come with you?"

"Who are you looking for?!" Jiang Mingwei blinked, asking in confusion.

Hua Cui looked shocked and hesitated several times before cautiously speaking.

"Miss, did the old lady hit your head too hard and hurt it? I feel like... you seem to have forgotten a lot of things lately."

"Didn't you tell me this before? Young Master praised Second Master in court for his brilliant military strategy and bravery. He rarely praises someone like that; he must greatly admire Second Master!"

Jiang Mingwei suddenly realized that these words were not spoken by her, but clearly by the original owner of the body.

However, when she said this, her tone was extremely sarcastic, full of disdain and disgust.

But Jiang Mingwei could feel the original owner's sorrow.

Like peeling away layers of an onion, the pain is pulled apart with every breath...

The original owner was probably thinking at the time, why could he think of Wei Jing, who had nothing to do with him, but not his own suffering sister?

If he had just sent someone to visit the Wei family even once, Jiang Mingwei wouldn't have had to live such a miserable life.

Unfortunately, there are no "what ifs" in this world.

Hua Cui's reminder was an unexpected bonus.

Thinking of Jiang Mingjin's hatred for him... well, let's just say that if he went to her door rashly, he might really be kicked out.

But if we could bring Jiang Mingjin's idol along, wouldn't that be...?

Jiang Mingwei chuckled twice, which made Hua Cui feel uneasy.

Wei Jing returned from the palace at noon, dressed in official robes, his steps swift as the wind. He was pondering the matters the Emperor had entrusted to him, preparing to return to his courtyard to bathe and change.

Unexpectedly, he saw the beautiful Jiang Mingwei on a stone bench in the courtyard.

When she looked at him, her eyes were gentle, and the sunlight fell on her long, dark hair. She was dressed in a light blue dress and looked so beautiful that she seemed otherworldly.

Jiang Mingjin was slightly taken aback, and the two looked at each other for a long time.

He abruptly took two steps back, went out to look at the plaque on the courtyard gate, and was able to confirm it.

Good, he didn't go the wrong way.

Why was Jiang Mingwei waiting for him in his courtyard?

Wei Jing stepped forward and bowed to Jiang Mingwei, asking, "I wonder why you are waiting here, sister-in-law?"
