Chapter Seventy-One: Like Strangers

Jiang Mingjin was extremely anxious. He glanced at Hua Cui and tried to go around her from the left, but was blocked. The same thing happened on the right.

He tried several times but failed to make a breakthrough, and he couldn't help but get anxious.

"She's been inside for so long, and there's still no sound. I don't know how my wife is doing. Why can't I go in and check on her? Is someone guilty and afraid to let me in?"

“Since Lord Jiang has decided to have my sister-in-law treat Madam Jiang, he shouldn’t say such things now. I believe my sister-in-law will do her best. She is Lord Jiang’s own sister, and you should trust her.”

With Wei Jing backing Jiang Mingwei up, Jiang Mingjin naturally couldn't say anything more.

His face was grim, and he continued pacing back and forth in front of the house, trying to rush in when Hua Cui wasn't looking.

But before he could do that, Jiang Mingwei had already opened the door and come out.

Seeing her come out, Jiang Mingjin immediately went up to her, without even glancing at her, and rushed straight into the house...

Only when he stood by the bedside and saw that his wife's pale and pained face had returned to calm, and even her cheeks had a slight blush, indicating that her condition had improved considerably, did his heart finally settle down.

It seems my wife is alright.

Li Yihuan opened her eyes and looked at him. Their eyes met, and both of them were filled with tears.

This brush with death made them even clearer about their feelings for each other.

"lady……"

"Husband, I'm fine now, don't worry. Weiwei gave me some medicine, and it worked really well. After taking it, I felt much better."

"She said she could definitely cure me, and I believe her. You should believe her too!"

Li Yihuan spoke weakly, her condition now far better than before.

When Jiang Mingjin went to find Jiang Mingwei, Li Yihuan couldn't even make a sound. But now she can talk to him so calmly. How could he possibly slander his sister and try to give Li Yihuan another kind of poison?

He knew that everything he had said before stemmed from a misunderstanding of Jiang Mingwei.

He thought she might do that, so he recklessly put the hat on her head.

He made a mistake...

But he has already apologized, so he shouldn't need to apologize again, right?

So he simply pursed his lips and sat silently by the bedside with his wife.

Seeing his expression, Li Yihuan knew that he and Jiang Mingwei had probably fallen out again.

Her previously calm face suddenly tensed up, and she hurriedly urged him on.

"Husband, did you say something you shouldn't have to Weiwei? She's your own sister, the closest person to you in this world besides me. How can you keep hurting her?"

"She even saved my life, you should go apologize to her, go apologize to her..."

Li Yihuan was extremely anxious and urged him hurriedly, pushing away his hand that was tightly gripping hers.

He even coughed violently because he was so excited.

Jiang Mingjin was terrified. He nodded repeatedly in agreement, saying he would apologize to her immediately. He only hoped that his wife would not get angry and hurt herself, and even more so, the baby in her womb.

But as he prepared to leave the courtyard, he couldn't help but pause slightly.

Is he really going to apologize to Jiang Mingwei again?

After much deliberation, he stepped into the courtyard, where Jiang Mingwei was waiting for him at the door.

Her expression was indifferent, and she showed no intention of taking credit for suppressing the poison in Li Yihuan's body.

"The poison in my sister-in-law's body can only be considered suppressed now, not cured, so we cannot let our guard down."

"I don't want to repeat what I said to you at the Wei family's house before. If you have a good memory, you should remember what I told you. Whether you want to do it or not is up to you!"

"Also, I don't need you to apologize to me anymore. I came to treat my sister-in-law for her sake, not for yours. Even if you want to sever ties with me, I have no objection, because I don't care about a brother like you who distorts the truth."

After saying that, Jiang Mingwei turned and left, not wanting to look at Jiang Mingjin again, and even less wanting to stay and hear him say anything unpleasant. After taking a few steps, she blurted out a reminder.

“I will come before my sister-in-law has another attack next time, so you don’t need to come to my house. And you’d better not stop me when I arrive.”

Wei Jing stared at Jiang Mingwei's departing figure. He had come here because he was afraid that his sister-in-law would be bullied, but he did not expect her to be so tough. No one could bully her.

In that case, you can rest assured.

So she bowed to Jiang Mingjin with her hands clasped, and strode away following Jiang Mingwei's retreating figure, leaving Jiang Mingjin alone in the courtyard.

As he watched the two figures disappear one after the other, a gentle breeze stirred and ruffled his clothes.

At that moment, his heart was suddenly filled with a tremendous emptiness and loneliness, and his bitterness had nowhere to go...

He used to dote on Jiang Mingwei a lot!

Knowing she was the only daughter in the family, they always granted her every wish and doted on her, but they never expected that this would foster her arrogant and domineering nature.

It's one thing for her to obstruct his marriage, but he's already married, so she should tone down her temper and get along well with her sister-in-law.

Jiang Mingjin didn't even care how close Jiang Mingwei and Li Yihuan were, but at least they had to maintain a semblance of harmony on the surface. Besides, Li Yihuan was carrying his child at the time, who was also Jiang Mingwei's nephew or niece.

She killed her own first child, so why can't he hate her?

But why won't she admit it...?

Is it that she is unable to accept the mistakes she made and feels guilty, so she dares not speak up, or does she really not have done anything?

This matter happened so long ago that even if Jiang Mingjin wanted to investigate, he probably wouldn't be able to find out anything.

He shook his head, sighed, and turned to go inside with a dejected expression.

Although the poison in Li Yihuan's body was suppressed, she was still very weak and fell asleep before he even entered.

Jiang Mingjin sat on the edge of her bed, looking at her calmly.

He had always been a man of integrity, and before he married, he didn't even have a concubine in his household. So who could have laid a hand on his wife, who was always gentle, virtuous, and kind to the servants?

Why would he do something so heartless?

I've thought about it again and again, but I still can't figure it out...

Upon arriving at the gate of the Jiang residence, Jiang Mingwei boarded the carriage and lifted the curtain.

Sure enough, Wei Jing also mounted his horse.

Their eyes met, and Jiang Mingwei grinned, revealing a bright and beautiful smile.

"Thank you, second brother, I'm very happy!"

Wei Jing was taken aback, not expecting Jiang Mingwei to thank him.

That smile, like a ray of brilliant sunshine in the dead of winter, fell upon him, making him feel a warmth he had never felt before...

He was almost stunned, and it took him a long time to come to his senses.

He only began to follow the carriage forward subconsciously, as the sound of hooves clattered as it moved onward.

But Jiang Mingwei's smile lingered in his heart, making it impossible for him to forget...
