Chapter 16: They've all lost weight.
As soon as Chen Jianye entered the house, he saw his wife crying her eyes out, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
He paused, then asked in a muffled voice, "Did Mom hit you?"
Although his mother has only ever beaten her son and rarely hit her daughters-in-law, there's no guarantee she won't get angry and resort to violence.
Li Chunhua shook her head, still shedding tears.
Chen Jianye looked completely bewildered and asked, "Then why are you crying?"
It's perfectly normal for a daughter-in-law to be scolded by her mother-in-law.
Li Chunhua then tearfully complained to him, "What's wrong with me giving my milk to Xiaobao? That brat is getting all chubby and healthy, while my poor Xiaobao is so skinny he barely has any meat on him. How can I, as his mother, not feel heartbroken when I see this?"
She did nothing wrong!
He's just a money-losing brat; how can he compare to a son who will carry on the family line?
She thought she would get her man's understanding and support, but Chen Jianye gave her an annoyed look and said, "You can't feed your daughter's food to your son. The baby can only drink milk, but the little one can eat rice and vegetables."
Even if he loves his son very much, he can't just stand by and watch his daughter starve to death.
Besides, his son gets to eat steamed egg custard every two days, and he also eats plenty of meat when there's food available. He's living a more comfortable life than his father.
Li Chunhua, her eyes brimming with tears, retorted, "I didn't give all the milk to Xiaobao! Blame that brat for eating so much! A little girl can eat more than a big, fat boy! I don't know what sins I committed in my past life to have given birth to such a troublesome child!"
The more she talked, the more resentful she became: That's right, that brat must have come to collect a debt!
Chen Jianye ignored her, changed his clothes, lay down on the bed, closed his eyes and said perfunctorily, "Anyway, you won't need to breastfeed the baby anymore. If you want to feed the baby, then feed the baby."
After saying that, he started snoring loudly.

Helian Jiao nodded in agreement.
Looking at their little niece's chubby, fair face, Zhao Mei and Zhou Zhaodi couldn't bring themselves to say anything against their conscience.
