8. Chapter 8 The Grand Full Moon

Chapter 8 The Grand Full Moon

Today is the fifth day since Li Chunhua gave birth, and Ma Xiulian has to go to work.

She was strong and earned more work points in a day than Chen Lao Er.

Worried that Li Chunhua might get hungry along the way, she specially cooked two boiled eggs for her before leaving, saying, "If you get hungry, just hold on for now, and Mom will steam rice for you when she gets back."

Her eyes, however, remained fixed on Helian Jiao's fair and delicate face, and she said with a look of reluctance, "My dear, Grandma is going to work in the fields now. You must stay home and drink your milk obediently, okay?"

Helian Jiao obligingly replied with an "Ah," indicating that she would.

Hearing her soft, tender voice, Ma Xiulian was even more reluctant to put her down.

"But Grandma needs to earn more work points so she can exchange them for eggs for her baby later."

Unaware of how precious eggs were in those days, Helian Jiao carefree blew a bubble, "Pop~"

Ma Xiulian instantly beamed with joy, repeatedly calling out "Grandma's darling," her voice as sweet as honey, which made Li Chunhua feel a chill run down her spine.

Before leaving, he told Li Chunhua, "Just lie down and rest. If you need anything, just ask Sanni to do it for you."

Children in rural areas mature early. Four-year-old Sanni is already helping with some light chores around the house, such as serving tea, pouring water, and washing diapers.

Ma Xiulian was a decisive person; after saying that, she picked up her hoe and went to the field.

As soon as she arrived at the field, Old Mrs. Song, who had always been at odds with her, straightened her back and shouted, "Hey, Old Chen's wife, I heard that your third daughter-in-law has given birth to another big daughter for you."

Just two days ago, Old Lady Song's daughter-in-law gave birth to a big, healthy grandson, and now she's deliberately trying to provoke Ma Xiulian.

Unexpectedly, Ma Xiulian said with a happy smile, "Yes, it's a little girl, and she's very pretty."

But no one believed she was truly happy; they all thought she had lost her mind from anger at having two worthless granddaughters in a row.

After all, which family doesn't want to have a big, healthy son these days?

The boys are strong and can earn more work points than the women when they work in the fields, while the girls are raised to work for other families when they are teenagers, and are basically freeloaders.

Sigh, it's pitiful.

Even Old Mrs. Song pursed her lips and refrained from saying anything more sarcastic.

Ma Xiulian was too lazy to explain to them; she could just keep the extraordinary good fortune of being reborn as a deity to herself.

She deftly and skillfully wielded the hoe to turn the soil, thinking about finishing the work as soon as possible so she could go back and cook rice for her third son's wife.

We can't let her precious little darling go hungry.

*

Time flies, and Helian Jiao will soon be a month old.

For the past month, Ma Xiulian has tried every means to get good things for Li Chunhua to nourish her body, but she hasn't gained much weight.

Because Helian Jiao really eats a lot, all the weight goes to her body.

Helian Jiao is now fair-skinned, soft, and plump, looking even more adorable than the lucky dolls in New Year paintings.

This little girl can eat more than the three fat boys in the Chen family!

Li Chunhua felt a little resentful, but Ma Xiulian was overjoyed. "Being able to eat is a blessing! Our little darling is so lucky!"

Upon hearing this, the rest of the Chen family didn't even flinch, including Zhou Zhaodi.

I'm so tired of hearing my mother-in-law praise that little vixen so much over the past month. Even the fact that the rice in the fields is growing better than in previous years is attributed to her.

However, the rice growth this year is indeed gratifying, with heavy, golden ears of rice that give people a sense of peace of mind.

I hope I can have a good New Year this year!

On the day Helian Jiao turned one month old, Ma Xiulian specially cut a foot-long piece of cured pork and stir-fried it with bamboo shoots, and also boiled five eggs to make a large pot of egg drop soup.

This was the most lavish meal the Chen family had eaten in the past six months; even the full moon celebration for Chen Dabao's eldest grandson hadn't been this grand.
