Chapter 241 Digging a Rat Hole 3
Everyone else looked on with surprise and delight, their eyes fixed on the newly dug mouse hole.
I thought there were only peanuts here, but I was surprised to find sweet potatoes as well. I wonder if there are any other good things in this pit.
Ma Xiulian glanced around warily and said in a low voice, "Keep your voice down."
"Um."
Zhou Zhaodi nodded repeatedly, her face beaming with joy, and deftly packed the sweet potatoes into her basket.
Several other men also stepped forward, all wanting to dig the pit.
Suddenly, a large, fat rat darted out of the hole, and Ma Xiulian swiftly chopped it down with a hoe.
Then more rats scurried out of it.
As Ma Xiulian swiftly swung her hoe, she said fiercely, "Quickly chop down all these scourges, don't let a single one escape!"
The rats, enraged by their raided lair, squeaked and screamed wildly, desperately trying to attack the Chen family.
But the Chen family are all genuine rural people. Not only are they not afraid of them, but they excitedly wiped them all out.
After killing more than ten rats, looking at the corpses on the ground, Ma Xiulian asked in confusion, "Why are there only a few?"
With so much food in this rat hole, there shouldn't only be a dozen or so rats.
But who cares? The most important thing right now is to dig up all the grain and bring it home.
"Let's keep digging!"
The Chen family continued digging the pit.
The pit was much deeper and larger than they had expected, and it contained not only peanuts and sweet potatoes, but also corn.
These grains are all buried in the ground, and just looking at them makes one's mouth water.
They had only been digging for a short while when their baskets were already full.
Before they came out, they never imagined there would be so much grain. Now that they look around, they realize there could probably fill several more baskets with the grain that wasn't harvested.
Ma Xiulian then said to Chen Jianguo, "Wait a moment, you three brothers take this basket and two backpacks back first, then come back to pick them out."
There are at least two baskets of grain left.
No sooner had she finished speaking than Zhou Zhaodi said smugly, "Mom, I have a sack here!"
Looking at the several large sacks in the basket, Ma Xiulian nodded: "Not bad, very thoughtful."
It has to be admitted that the second son's wife is quite clever when it comes to food.
Zhou Zhaodi was overjoyed to receive such praise from her mother-in-law.
It was an hour later when all the grain had been cleaned and put into baskets.
Several men each carried a shoulder pole on their shoulders, and finally managed to carry all the grain home at once.
As Chen Jiandang carried the sack, he said to his wife, "These rats are really damned; they actually stole so much of our grain."
"that is!"
Zhou Zhaodi was also filled with righteous indignation, but when she looked at the grain, she couldn't help but laugh: "We've really gotten a great deal today."
The harvest from this one rat hole is probably enough to feed their whole family for a month or two. Isn't this a great bargain delivered right to their doorstep by God?
"There's so much food in just one cave. If a few more came, our Chen family would be able to eat dry rice every day."
At this point, Zhou Zhaodi suddenly turned to look at the monkey and asked excitedly, "Grandpa Monkey, are there any other mouse holes?"
The monkey actually nodded again, then pointed in a direction with its paw.
