Chapter 218 We Start Over

Chapter 218 We Start Over

The door closed, shutting out all sound.

Gu Feng walked to the corner of the corridor and saw Tang Susu standing against the wall. "Is this really the right thing to do?"

Tang Susu asked with a smile, "He tried to scheme against me, so I'm retaliating double. What's wrong with that?"

Gu Feng said, "I'm just worried that you'll feel bad."

Tang Susu was silent for a while, then said, "It really is uncomfortable."

But soon, she laughed again, "The discomfort was only temporary, and I feel great now."

In the past, she was always bullied and ostracized. Girls would often use underhanded tactics behind her back because handsome and rich boys were interested in her.

She's experienced being locked in the toilet, having her books thrown on the floor from her drawer, and having her craft projects destroyed in class.

Of course, every time it came to the end, there would be boys who would stand up for her and teach those people a lesson.

Tang Susu thought things would be better once she got to university, and she wouldn't have to go through all this anymore. But when she got to university, it seemed that things hadn't changed.

She was still targeted, and in the end, a boy always stood up for her.

That day in the KTV room, Xia Zhen slapped her. To be honest, Xia Zhen hit her hard with that slap, and it really hurt. When she woke up the next day, she saw that half of her face was still red.

Tang Susu looked at herself quietly in the mirror and realized for the first time that girls could be so strong.

Xia Zhen used to be regarded as a goddess by many boys in school, so why did no girl ever dare to target her?

Without a doubt, it's because Xia Zhen wouldn't give others the opportunity to bully her.

Tang Susu suddenly realized that there was nothing wrong with a girl becoming assertive.

She didn't want to suffer in silence anymore, nor did she want to wait until a man came to her rescue. She wanted to become strong so that no one would dare to bully her again.

And now, this is a very good start.

As the weather gets colder, many people find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning, and Miss Xia, who loves to stay in bed, is no exception.

"Zhenzhen, did you stay up late again last night?"

Xia Zhen curled up in bed, her eyes half-closed in sleepiness. The phone in her hand was still on a video call. The white-haired boy on the screen was already sitting in a chair at his desk, dressed impeccably, with a slightly helpless expression on his face.

She hesitated for a long time, then listlessly managed to stammer, "I just... went to bed a little later than usual, by ten minutes..."

Lu Jin knew her well; if he hadn't made her expend some energy beforehand, she definitely wouldn't have gone to sleep before midnight.

He said, "Sleep a little longer, but don't stay up late next time."

"Okay..." She readily agreed, but whether she could actually do it was another matter.

Seeing that she was really sleepy, Lu Jin slowly said, "I'll take you out to play this afternoon."

Xia Zhen hummed in response, half asleep and half awake.

After the video call ended, Lu Jin sat motionless in his chair, the little white cat nestled at his feet as if it were dozing off.

A few minutes later, the man leaning against the door, biting into an apple, said, "Don't think about it anymore. The honeymoon phase is over, of course she won't be so clingy to you anymore."

Lu Jin raised his eyes and quietly looked at the gloating person.

Lu Qi curled his lips and smiled in a friendly manner, "You're still young, of course you don't understand. You'll get used to these things. If you think about it, at least she's still willing to video chat with you instead of hanging up on your video call directly, which proves that she's not completely tired of you yet."

Lu Jin: "Is this based on your experience as someone who's been there?"

Lu Qi twitched the corners of his mouth, a forced smile, "My marriage is happy and fulfilling, don't make wild guesses."

Lu Jin looked down at his phone to check the weather forecast for the afternoon, so he could remind the girl what to wear.

Lu Qi, still enjoying the spectacle, said, "Just accept your fate. Dating is destined to be anything but smooth sailing for the Lu family."

The sound of high heels came from downstairs, along with Lu Yuan's excited shouts, "Lu Qi! Which is the best hotel? My girlfriend promised to marry me after graduation! I want to give her the grandest wedding ever!"

Lu Qi remained silent.

Lu Jin: "Is it that things don't go smoothly when it comes to the Lu family, or is it just that things don't go smoothly when it comes to you?"

Lu Qi chuckled twice. He walked to the stairs and looked at the person in the living room whose face was flushed with excitement. He scrutinized him for a long time but couldn't see what made this person better than him.

Lu Qi laughed and said, "You've only been dating for a month and you're already agreeing to marry me? You must have met a conman."

A high heel slammed into Lu Qi's face.

Lu Yuan: "You're not allowed to talk about her like that!"

Lu Jin pretended not to hear the bang outside the door. He looked down at his phone screen, where the background picture was a photo of him and the girl. He couldn't help but think that he wished he could change it to a photo of their wedding.

The afternoon temperature rose a bit, at least enough to make people more willing to go out.

Xia Zhen got dressed, told Aunt Fang, and went out. Xia Yu had gone to the gym and wasn't home, so no one would stop Xia Zhen from going out on a date.

She left a little earlier than the agreed time because the sun was shining brightly today, and she couldn't keep Lu Jin waiting for her.

Xia Zhen looked down and checked the contents of her bag. Nothing else mattered, but she remembered to bring a parasol and sunscreen. Suddenly, she sensed a figure blocking her way and took a step to the side.

But that person also took a step forward.

Xia Zhen raised her head, then frowned.

It is Song Heng.

He seemed to have lost even more weight, his figure was slumped, and the dark circles under his eyes revealed his exhaustion without any attempt to conceal it. His dark eyes were lifeless and dull, which was especially eerie.

But he called her in an affectionate tone, "Zhenzhen".

Xia Zhen immediately took two steps back.

His eyelashes trembled slightly, and a hint of hurt flashed in his eyes, but he quickly concealed this emotion, thinking he had done a good job, and asked cautiously, "Where are you going?"

Xia Zhen said, "What business is it of yours where I go?"

He asked, "Are you going on a date with him?"

She's someone who likes to stay home and play on her phone. She's not keen on going out unless someone she likes can get her to go out.

Xia Zhen only ever said the same thing: "What's it to you?"

That's just how she is; when she likes someone, she can pour all her joy onto that person without reservation.

And she can always be so ruthless towards people she dislikes.

Song Heng even remembered how, before everything changed, she stood firmly in front of those who belittled him and stood up for him.

But now, he has become someone she despises.

This shouldn't be the case.

The world shouldn't be developing like this. Everything that Lu Jin has obtained should have belonged to Song Heng.

He reached out and gripped her wrist tightly, his grip so strong that she couldn't refuse.

Xia Zhen tensed up. "What are you doing?"

Song Heng's eyes were red-rimmed, and his dark pupils seemed to be burning with fire, the blood vessels within them looking as if they were about to bleed. His voice was hoarse as he slowly said, "Zhenzhen, let's start over. You...you'll like me..."

His tone was calm, but it seemed to turn into a sob towards the end, yet the strength with which he held her was so great, creating a strange contradiction.
