Chapter 6 Sunshine
Ms. Wen, the homeroom teacher of Class 1, Grade 12, is a young teacher who has only been working for three years. She usually gets along very well with the students in her class, except for one: Lu Jin, who sits in the corner and has an appearance that is different from ordinary people.
Lu Jin is a loner who never participates in group activities and keeps his distance from the other students. Teacher Wen had tried countless ways to care for him and guide him to integrate into the class, but all of them failed.
Lu Jin's aloofness and coldness made no one in the class want to sit next to him. Of course, Lu Jin himself never mentioned having any desire for a deskmate.
Ms. Wen did not want to mention Lu Jin's name alone in class. She could sense that Lu Jin had a strong sense of self-esteem and did not like being the center of attention. She did not want to hurt him.
After hesitating for a moment, Teacher Wen said to Xia Zhen, "Actually, there are other places to sit. You can think about it some more."
Xia Zhen smiled and her eyes crinkled. "No need to think about it. The scenery there looks beautiful. I just want to sit there."
What scenery is beautiful?
It was clearly a dark corner, a place where even the sunlight from outside the window couldn't usually reach.
Ms. Wen glanced at the pale boy sitting in the corner, then looked at Xia Zhen. She couldn't quite put her finger on whether it was because Xia Zhen's radiant smile was so infectious, but she suddenly felt a strange impulse. "Lu Jin, Xia Zhen wants to be your deskmate. Are you willing?"
After asking this question, Teacher Wen felt uneasy. She was worried that Lu Jin would be unhappy, and she was also worried that Lu Jin's rejection of the new classmate would make the new classmate feel embarrassed.
As expected, Lu Jin's lips twitched slightly, and his voice was cold, "I don't want to."
After he finished speaking, he lowered his head and stopped looking at anyone, turning another page of the book in his hand.
His answer was not surprising, but it still made many boys feel indignant.
This is a new classmate!
What a beautiful new classmate!
They look completely different from the tigresses in their class!
Lu Jin actually refused!
If it were them, they would have been eagerly wiping the table for the new student!
A shadow fell over his desk.
"Lu Jin, classmate."
The girl's cheerful voice came from beside him.
For a fleeting moment, his pale fingers, resting on the pages of the book, lost their grip.
Her arrival seemed to disrupt his reading. Finally, he looked up at her, who was so close to him, his expression indifferent.
The boy wasn't particularly handsome; his pale eyes were expressionless, and his cold, hard face made him appear stiff and aloof. His features were delicate, but his extreme indifference gave others a sense of unapproachability.
He wore the same blue and white oversized tracksuit-style school uniform as everyone else, a style characteristic of China.
However, the school uniform was a bit too big for his thin frame, making him appear even more frail.
Xia Zhen had seen too many handsome men and beautiful women. Not to mention those from the past, just looking at those closer to home, this young man was certainly not as good-looking as someone like Song Heng, but he left a deep impression on her at first glance.
He showed absolutely no signs of youthful vigor; his white hair, pale eyes, and pale skin made him seem as if he lived alone in an icy kingdom.
She really looks like Snow White.
The same question popped into Xia Zhen's mind again. She raised the corners of her lips and said with a smile, "May I sit here?"
Right next to Lu Jin's seat was an empty seat, but it had always been empty and no one had ever sat there.
Perhaps Xia Zhen acted too naturally, completely ignoring Lu Jin's differences. When she asked Lu Jin for his opinion, she communicated as if she were talking to an ordinary person. The classroom was very quiet, and everyone actually began to look forward to Lu Jin's answer.
He had already refused once.
Lu Jin lowered his eyes, no longer looking at her. His gaze fell on the book, and he said two words indifferently, "Whatever you want."
It was just two very simple words, but you couldn't tell his emotions at all.
But inexplicably, it made everyone else seem relieved.
Xia Zhen smiled at the teacher and said, "Teacher, I'll sit here."
"Oh... okay." Teacher Wen's expression was a little dazed. She hadn't expected that Lu Jin would agree after Xia Zhen asked him personally.
Xia Zhen put her schoolbag on the table and sat down in the chair. She didn't care about the curious glances from those around her. When she took out her things and placed them on the desk, a pen rolled across the dividing line between the two desks and landed on the boy's desk.
Just as the pen was about to roll off the edge of the table and onto the floor, a hand caught it.
Then the pen was presented to her.
He didn't speak, and his eyes never left the book.
It seems that handing her a pen was a small thing he did unconsciously.
Xia Zhen looked up and saw the boy's cold, hard profile. She smiled and took the pen. "Thank you."
He withdrew his hand without saying a word.
Xia Zhen glanced at his hands again; they were a delicate white, with each finger clearly defined by its knuckles. She said truthfully, "Your hands are also very beautiful."
Lu Jin's fingers trembled slightly as they rested on the book pages.
The two students sitting in front of them both looked deeply shocked.
"Wow, the new classmate is quite the straight man."
"Unfortunately, Lu Jin is a rock."
Isn't that right?
He wasn't happy at all to have such a pretty girl as his deskmate.
That's really strange.
The corner where Lu Jin usually sat was the quietest, but this morning, after Xia Zhen sat down there, that little corner seemed to come alive.
Ms. Wen, the teacher on the podium, was also silently observing the situation in that corner. She suddenly felt that she could start to look forward to the changes that would happen in that small corner.
After the self-study period ended, the bolder students in the class all ran towards Xia Zhen, asking her which school she transferred from, asking for her contact information, and some girls even envied her thick hair, asking her how she took care of it...
Xia Zhen answered all sorts of questions patiently. When she said that she had transferred from Shengyi Middle School, many people in the class were surprised.
"Isn't Sheng Yi Middle School a well-known elite school?"
"Yes, yes, I've heard of this school. My uncle is also the owner of a small company, and he couldn't get my cousin into Shengyi Middle School."
"By the way... is the new student still wearing the Sheng Yi Middle School uniform?"
Hearing this, Xia Zhen nodded, "The school uniforms I ordered from No. 1 Middle School haven't arrived yet."
Someone asked curiously, "Isn't the environment at Shengyi Middle School much better than ours? Why did you transfer to our school?"
“Well…” Xia Zhen looked at the person next to her.
As time went by, the angle at which sunlight shone through the window changed.
A ray of light fell on the pages of the book, and also tinted the boy's hands with a beautiful golden hue belonging to the light.
But the sunlight could only reach this far; it would damage his skin, which is why he always sat in this dark corner.
Xia Zhen smiled and said, "It's probably because the scenery here is so beautiful."
His fingers inexplicably flinched, as if he had suddenly been burned by a corner of the sunlight.
