Chapter 17 I Have a Crush on You

Chapter 17 I Have a Crush on You

After a brief moment of distraction, Lu Jin regained his composure. The light in his eyes slowly faded, returning to a deathly stillness. He accompanied Xia Zhen to the hospital, but did not intend to have any examinations done.

Xia Zhen asked her teacher for leave because they arrived early and there weren't many people in the hospital yet.

In a corner of the hospital lobby, he said, "I'll wait for you here."

"Then I'll go register you first." Xia Zhen, who was about to leave, was suddenly grabbed by the hand. She turned back to look at him, "Lu Jin?"

Lu Jin was very stubborn, "I'm fine, I don't need to see a doctor."

Xia Zhen thought for a while, then squatted down in front of him. "Have you been disappointed many times before? So you don't need to have any extra expectations this time?"

Lu Jin looked down at her face and remained silent for a long time.

When he was eight years old, after doctors told him he would never be able to stand up again, his family quickly accepted the reality, but he did not.

He worked very hard to save money, often spending a lot of time and energy to save enough for a single hospital visit. Each time, his high hopes were met with disappointment.

After being disappointed many times, he got used to giving up hope.

Even if he can feel his legs, so what? Maybe it's just his imagination.

Xia Zhen saw that the boy was getting stuck on his own ideas, and she felt a surge of anger and disappointment. But then she thought that she couldn't blame him.

Her eyes darted around.

Lu Jin knew she was definitely up to no good.

Sure enough, Xia Zhen suddenly looked behind him and said, "Teacher Wen, what are you doing here?"

Lu Jin did not move.

There was an awkwardness in the air.

Xia Zhen's lips slowly pursed, and the grievance in her eyes seemed to materialize.

Lu Jin remained silent for a while, a sense of helplessness slowly emerging in his eyes. In the end, he turned to look behind him.

A look of joy appeared in Xia Zhen's eyes. She poked his thigh hard with her finger, and suddenly someone grabbed her hand.

Lu Jin's face flushed slightly, but he said coldly, "What are you doing?"

Is it okay to touch a man's thigh without permission?

Okay, even if he's still a boy, he can't just let anyone touch him.

Xia Zhen wasn't intimidated at all. She smiled and said, "If you can't feel your legs, how would you know I was secretly touching you?"

Lu Jin was slightly dazed.

Xia Zhen grabbed his hand and shook it. "I promise, this isn't your imagination. You really can feel your leg again. Even if everyone in the world says you're wrong, that your leg is beyond saving, you have to believe in yourself. They're wrong, Lu Jin. Just believe in yourself this once, okay?"

Lu Jin's hands trembled almost imperceptibly, and his lowered eyelids concealed the emotions in his eyes. "Why are you wasting your time on me?"

This was a question he had wanted to ask for a long time, but he had never had the courage to ask it.

He feared that the answer from this pampered young lady, who seemed oblivious to human suffering, was merely a passing interest, because she had never seen a monster like him before, which was why she was so interested.

With his strong sense of self-respect, he certainly couldn't accept someone like that getting close.

But having grown accustomed to the hustle and bustle, he was afraid to return to that quiet world.

He worried that he would be in a dilemma: what should he do if she really said that she only saw him as a toy?

Xia Zhen didn't understand where his question came from. She blinked innocently and asked in confusion, "I've made it so obvious, didn't you notice?"

He asked, "What did you see?"

I have a crush on you.

Lu Jin's body stiffened. "What...did you say?"

"I have a crush on you, so I want to be good to you. Do you understand?"

The amount of information was too much, and her answer was too unbelievable, so much so that Lu Jin wondered if he was hallucinating or experiencing auditory hallucinations.

He stared blankly at the girl who was still chattering on and on.

Xia Zhen stroked her chin and muttered to herself, "I wanted to secretly and quietly have a crush on you, but I was worried about what if someone else liked you too? So I made it a little more obvious, that way even if someone else likes you, they'll have to think twice about whether they can steal you away from me..."

What exactly is she saying?

What makes him worthy of being secretly admired?

How could anyone possibly steal him from her?

Is the person she's talking about actually him?

Lu Jin inexplicably felt a dryness in his mouth. His reason rose and fell with her voice, and just as he was about to succumb to her sweet words, a voice deep inside him would remind him:

Who would like a monster in a wheelchair?

yes.

Who would like that?

Lu Jin's body grew increasingly stiff. He knew he should pull his hand away from her grasp and interrupt her hypocritical words, but he had no strength.

No one had ever held his hand like that before or said so much to him.

After Xia Zhen finished speaking, to sum it up, she was simply determined to nip any thoughts in the minds of those who were trying to take Lu Jin from her. When she looked up, she saw the young man staring at her silently.

His body was stiff, his eyes were red, his lips were almost white, and the sad look on his face made him look like he was about to collapse at any moment.

Xia Zhen was stunned. "Lu Jin?"

Why did he appear so vulnerable?

Lu Jin's eyes were terribly red at the corners, and his pale lips were tightly pressed together; he didn't utter a word.

Xia Zhen put on a serious face, "You're always like this, you like to keep things to yourself and make me guess. Even if I'm very smart, it's tiring to keep guessing. This will really affect our relationship, you know?"

I was reprimanded for no reason.

Lu Jin watched helplessly as her face drew closer and closer, until her hands cupped his face in hers.

Xia Zhen sighed helplessly, "I really can't do anything with you. Hey, I'm giving you a chance now. Tell me, what are you thinking?"

He exuded a gloomy aura. The girl was too close. He wanted to dodge, and he should have dodged, but his body felt like it didn't belong to him. He was too slow to react.

She was like a fire, burning away what little reason he had left.

The boy finally whispered, "Your jokes scare me."

Xia Zhen's eyes widened. "I was talking to you so seriously just now, and you said I was joking? Am I really that much of a failure as a person?"

“No,” he said. “I am the one who failed.”

Oh, he's so insecure that he doesn't want to believe she could actually like him.

Xia Zhen stood up, her face stern and her expression solemn.

Lu Jin felt an indescribable tension, gripping the hem of his school uniform so tightly that the veins on the back of his hand stood out.

The girl suddenly bent over.

Lu Jin's eyes instantly lost focus, becoming empty and devoid of anything.

Because he was being hugged.

“Lu Jin…” she whispered in his ear, “I’ll tell you quietly, just the fact that I fell in love with you at first sight is enough to make you the proudest person in the world.”

Her voice was soft, yet when she expressed her affection for him, it was deafeningly loud.

The defense line, built over ten years, shattered and collapsed at this moment.
