Chapter 230 Song Zhu and Uncle Hei (Side Story 5)
It was midnight, and the night wind was chilly.
On the deserted street, Song Zhu squatted down and couldn't help but sob softly.
The man in the black trench coat stood not far away and watched for a long time. Finally, he sighed in defeat and walked to her side. "He was determined to leave, so no matter how hard you search, you won't find him."
With red eyes, Song Zhu looked up and choked out, "Uncle Hei, do you think he might do something foolish?"
Song Heng left a letter and then disappeared.
Over the past few years, he has been working hard and running the company very well. Song Zhu was worried about him, so she worked as his assistant for a few years, and he didn't object.
Song Heng's life was normal, and there was nothing wrong with it. He never mentioned Xia Zhen again, nor did he bring up the past. Everyone thought that he had let go and moved on to embrace life anew.
But seven years later, now, he has suddenly disappeared.
In the letter, he said he had left everything in the company to Song Zhu and asked people not to look for him or make a big deal out of his departure.
Song Zhu then realized that Song Heng had never let go of the past at all, and that all these years he had taken Song Zhu with him to handle company affairs was just to groom her to become the next heir of the Song family.
Song Heng has very few friends. Over the years, apart from work, he has had no other private entertainment life, and he keeps in touch with even fewer people.
Song Zhu searched for a long time in the middle of the night, but couldn't find any trace of Song Heng.
He Jing has made enough money over the years and has retired to a peaceful life. Except for the occasional need to return to the literary world to handle complicated matters for Song Zhu, he spends most of his time at home focusing on his writing. His ambition to become a great writer is still alive.
In fact, judging from Song Heng's recent behavior and his extreme personality, He Jing could guess what he was planning.
Logically speaking, he should have told Song Zhu that she couldn't possibly find him, because he had probably already found a quiet place and left this world.
But seeing Song Zhu's pitiful crying face, a different emotion welled up in his heart. He took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, then pulled her to her feet and said, "He probably wants to leave this city and go see other places."
Song Zhu blinked her misty eyes. "Are we just going to look around other places?"
"Hmm." He Jing tightened her collar and said without changing his expression, "Actually, this is a good thing. There are familiar people and things here, which is why he has been living a very repressed life. It's good for him to see the scenery outside."
Song Zhu was still uneasy. "Actually... I haven't asked Xia Zhen yet. Do you think Song Heng might..."
He Jing said, "No."
Song Zhu asked, "Why do you think it's impossible?"
"Didn't he say in the letter he left you that he didn't want to make a big deal out of his departure? What else could 'making a big deal out' mean besides not wanting Xia Zhen to know he was gone?"
Song Zhu pursed her lips. "How do you even know what he wrote in the letter he left for us?"
He Jing smiled and said, "Although I have retired from the martial arts world, it doesn't mean I don't know anything."
He could guess why Song Heng didn't want Xia Zhen to know: he didn't want others to blame her for his departure, nor did he want Xia Zhen to feel guilty about it.
Even if she feels guilty, she might not necessarily waste it on him.
He Jing said, "Don't overthink it. Maybe it will be a year, maybe it will be ten years. Once he figures things out, he will come back."
Song Zhu lowered her head and remained silent for a long time.
The night wind seemed to be getting colder.
He Jing said, "I'll take you back."
Song Zhu had just taken one step when her phone rang. She answered, "Hello, Instructor He..."
He Jing's brow twitched, and he snatched the phone away. "Good evening, my little brother."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone. "I heard from Song Zhu that her brother is missing and she's helping her look for him. What are you doing with her?"
"It's fate," He Jing said casually. "You don't need to bother. You can't handle her brother's affairs. By the way, she's in a bad mood lately, so she definitely won't be in the mood to go to your workplace to discuss cooperation projects. Her company will send someone to take over the work. You should take over properly and don't call her unless it's important."
After He Jing finished speaking, he hung up the phone. Taking advantage of his height, Song Zhu couldn't see him casually tap a few times on his phone to block the number. Finally, he returned the phone to her.
Song Zhu was in a bad mood and had no interest in arguing that He Jing had arranged everything for her in just a few words.
Looking at the dejected, short girl, He Jing sighed in distress, but finally took her cold hand in his. "Come on, I'll take you home."
Song Zhu followed the man for a few steps. She stared at her hand being held for a while before slowly raising her head to look at the man's profile. "Uncle Hei, you're a man and I'm a woman. You can't just hold my hand like that."
He Jing held her hand tighter and said matter-of-factly, "You are the wife I was betrothed to when I was seventeen. We even exchanged our tokens of love back then, so it's perfectly legitimate for me to hold your hand."
Song Zhu froze, her expression blank.
It's so late, a time when everyone should be sleeping, but in another part of the city, people are still paying attention to Song Heng's departure.
Lu Qi leaned against the headboard, tucking the blanket around the woman beside him who seemed to be fast asleep with one hand, and holding his phone in the other, he said to the person on the other end of the line, "That kid from the Song family has suddenly disappeared."
The person on the phone simply replied, "Mm."
Lu Qi smiled, "It seems you're not surprised at all. Did you already know he would make this choice? Or were you involved in his departure?"
Lu Jin replied coldly, "I didn't do anything."
Lu Qi chuckled lightly, "It's not an easy thing to make someone so desperate that they abandon everything familiar and choose to leave."
Lu Jin: "When Zhenzhen and I were shopping today, we ran into Professor Xu."
The smile on Lu Qi's face disappeared.
Lu Jin: "Instead of focusing on my affairs, you should focus on your own. When Mother wakes up, if she still chooses to leave, I will only stand by her side."
Lu Qi uttered two words with a forced smile: "You unfilial son."
The call was disconnected.
Lu Qi took a deep breath, telling himself not to get angry, because anger would make him age faster. He lowered his gaze, looking at the woman's beautiful sleeping face, but inexplicably felt a sense of unease in his heart.
He leaned down and asked softly, "Ruoruo, after you wake up, will you want to leave me?"
