Chapter 194 Don't Be Afraid
She lay on the sofa, blinking lazily. "Lu Jin, what's wrong?"
The boy who was lying on top of her lifted his head from her chest and leaned in to kiss the corner of her lips. "It's just that I've realized I love you even more."
Xia Zhen shifted her foot uncomfortably, but he still held onto her ankle and refused to let go.
This aloof, white-haired boy usually looks extremely serious, but in private he actually loves excitement.
For example, his favorite place is the sofa, and his favorite thing to do is hold her feet.
The sofa sank again and again, but fortunately it was of good quality; her handprints would appear and disappear each time.
In the sweltering air, he whispered in her ear, his breathing slightly erratic, "Zhenzhen, don't go out alone lately. If you want to go anywhere, call me."
Xia Zhen hummed vaguely, it was unclear whether she had listened to him or not.
He tightened his grip on her ankle slightly. "Zhenzhen, be good."
Xia Zhen squinted, raised her hand to encircle her neck, and replied perfunctorily, "Okay."
Finally, the satisfied boy carried her back to bed.
Lu Jin rubbed her head and said, "You go to sleep first, I'll go tidy up."
Xia Zhen gave a soft "hmm," rolled over on the bed, and closed her eyes.
He covered her with the blanket, and then the sound of footsteps faded away.
Xia Zhen opened her eyes, her smooth arm reaching out from under the covers to stealthily touch the phone on the bedside table.
“Zhenzhen”.
Her hand paused.
Someone stood by the bed, leaning down to look at her closely. "So you're not tired yet?"
Xia Zhen withdrew her hand, raised her eyes, and looked at the boy's expressionless face so close to hers. She felt a little guilty. "I just wanted to see what time it was."
Lu Jin asked, "You just wanted to check the time, not open some small website?"
Xia Zhen shook her head and said seriously, "No."
"I remember, the book you have on your bookshelf is supposed to be updated around this time."
Xia Zhen looked innocent. "Which book are you talking about?"
"After my boyfriend dumped me for another man, I stole the man he liked and slept with him."
Xia Zhen: "..."
He knows her so well; he even pretended to leave the room, just waiting for her to take the bait!
Xia Zhen, in a fit of pique, complained, "I was just looking. When I read the book, I identified with myself as the female lead, but the male lead identified with you!"
"Am I not meeting your expectations? Do I need to project my own feelings onto you?"
"That's different."
"How are they different?"
Xia Zhen blinked. "You're not going to suddenly extend tentacles like the male protagonist in a novel."
Lu Jin: "..."
Isn't her taste a bit too strong?
Xia Zhen reached out to him and began to whine, "Lu Jin, hug me."
He sighed, admitting defeat, and sat up in bed with her in his arms. She snuggled into his embrace, obediently remaining still, making it impossible for him to say anything more.
A long time passed.
She looked up at him. "Lu Jin, what's wrong with you today? I think you're acting a little strange."
Lu Jin: "What's strange about it?"
"You told me not to go out alone, is something bad going to happen?" She thought for a moment, then said, "Will I encounter any danger?"
Lu Jin gently stroked her back and whispered, "Why don't you think that I'm too bad, too controlling, which is why I don't want you to go out alone?"
"No, that method is too low-level... cough!" Xia Zhen realized what she meant and changed her words to, "You're not bad, you're very good to me."
Lu Jin's eyes darkened slightly. He lowered his head and kissed the corner of her lips. "Today I think I saw Song Heng."
Xia Zhen tilted her head, her eyes filled with doubt, "Song Heng? He's here to see Song Zhu, isn't he?"
"I don't know, and I'm not sure if that person is him."
It was raining and dark at the time, so the light was poor. He could only see a figure. But would someone as arrogant and unruly as Song Heng really appear there in such a disheveled state?
Xia Zhen asked, "Are you worried that he came to see me?"
Lu Jin nodded. "Zhenzhen, you know I can't accept any possibility of something happening to you."
Therefore, he inevitably overthinks things.
Xia Zhen laughed, "Don't worry, I'll listen to you. I won't wander off alone. At school, I always go to class and eat with my roommates. The rest of the time I'm with you. I'll be fine."
Lu Jin felt an indescribable warmth in his heart, simply because of her unconditional trust in him. He sighed and hugged her tightly in his arms with satisfaction, "Zhenzhen."
"Yes, I'm here."
He lowered his eyes, a gentle smile on his face. "I'm so glad I met you that night."
That night, the moonlight was bright yet desolate.
The man in the wheelchair, holding a kitten, fell to the ground in a disheveled state. At that moment, with his strong sense of self-respect, what he least wanted was to be watched and pitied by outsiders.
It was precisely during the worst time of his life that she barged into his world.
From that moment on, his life underwent a tremendous change.
There are too many people like him living in the shadows in this world, but there is only one Xia Zhen.
Some people miss out and that's it, but he will only hold her tightly by his side, and no matter what the future holds, he will never let go.
Rest days are for sleeping in late, and Xia Zhen's favorite thing to do is to drag Lu Jin to sleep in with her. The two of them dawdled and didn't get up until almost ten o'clock the next day.
Although Xia Zhen is prone to laziness, she can also be quite diligent at times. For example, when Lu Jin goes downstairs to throw out the trash, she goes with him.
In the elevator, Xia Zhen looked at the incomprehensible charts on Lu Jin's phone screen and asked, exasperated, "Lu Jin, are you trading stocks?"
"Well, that person said I need to practice more and learn to grasp the wind direction, and gave me some start-up capital."
Xia Zhen took a bite of the bread in her hand and said admiringly, "You're amazing."
Lu Jin chuckled, "I lost a lot at the beginning, but I made some money later."
He has now returned all of Lu Qi's money. Apart from keeping some money for himself to buy things for Xia Zhen, he anonymously donated the rest of the money to No. 1 Middle School.
Lu Jin didn't tell anyone about the donation. It was Lu Qi who discovered where his funds went. However, Lu Qi had found out a long time ago that Lu Ci had an accident at school, for which the school had to pay compensation.
When asked about Lu Jin's donation to No. 1 Middle School, Lu Qi simply smiled meaningfully and didn't say anything more.
The elevator doors opened, and we arrived at the first floor.
Lu Jin was carrying a trash bag in one hand. Afraid that Xia Zhen would find it dirty, he didn't hold her hand. However, after Xia Zhen finished eating a piece of bread, she took the initiative to put her hand into his free hand and hold it.
Holding her phone in her other hand, she suddenly saw a message and casually said, "We've reposted a post from B University on our forum. It says that a girl from their school named Ruan has gone missing, and people are saying that there might be some kind of pervert involved."
Lu Jin didn't care about others. He threw the trash into the trash can, and then the girl grabbed his arm.
She stared at him longingly.
Perhaps the fear was fake, but the desire for his reassurance was real.
He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head, saying gently, "Don't be afraid, I'm here. This won't happen to you."
