Chapter 60, Grade 3
Ms. Wen led the morning self-study session, where she summarized last week's monthly exam. Unsurprisingly, Su Nuo came in first place again.
Su Nuo is a true academic star. He is unmoved by the admiration or praise of others, truly unfazed by honor or disgrace.
Teacher Wen smiled gently and said, "Su Nuo is the only one in the class who doesn't need me to worry about him. You should all learn from him."
Several boys egged them on, saying "Yes, yes, yes."
Su Nuo remained calm and composed, her expression unchanged, only the corners of her lips slightly turned up, as if she were smiling.
If Su Nuo being first in the grade was not surprising at all, then Lu Jin's sudden jump from 26th in the class to the top three in the grade was unbelievable to everyone.
Teacher Wen's tone was filled with undisguised satisfaction and admiration, "Lu Jin has made the most progress this time. Except for his low score in Chinese, Lu Jin's scores in the other subjects are close to full marks."
There are many hidden talents in No. 1 Middle School. Although there are not many people who get close to full marks in each subject, there are a few. Their scores are usually very close with the top ten in the grade. A difference of one point may result in a difference of two places.
Everyone in the class looked at the boy who had always been quiet and unassuming, their shocked gazes filled with disbelief.
Even Su Nuo, who was oblivious to everything around her, silently looked at the person in that corner.
Xia Zhen's eyes lit up. "Lu Jin, you got third place in the grade! That's amazing!"
Lu Jin's indifferent expression softened slightly, and he whispered to her, "Zhenzhen, it's only third."
Even a young man can be vain; he might want to show off in front of someone he likes, but he overestimated himself.
The essay topic for this exam was "home," and he felt at a loss for words. In fact, at that moment, he already knew that he wouldn't get a high score in Chinese. He only got third place, and he didn't think there was anything to say about it.
Xia Zhen glared at him, "What do you mean by 'only third'? Lu Jin, are you in Versailles?"
Lu Jin shut his mouth, speechless.
"Lu Jin actually got third place in the grade?"
"Is he cheating? He's improved so much!"
"Could it be that he cheated?"
"Go find the top two students in the grade and see if they're willing to help you cheat?"
...
The murmurs were deafening, and Ms. Wen heard some of the negative comments. She tapped the podium, her expression serious. “The exam papers were all set by our school’s teachers. You absolutely cannot find the original questions online. Even if someone wanted to cheat, it would be impossible. Besides, although Lu Jin never raises his hand to speak, every teacher can see that he is always very attentive in class.”
Xia Zhen chimed in, "Yes, Teacher Wen is right!"
She was a little too excited.
Lu Jin was not used to being watched by so many people, so he quietly grabbed the indignant girl's hand and pulled her to sit down.
Xia Zhen looked at him with displeasure.
He raised his hand to his forehead and sighed helplessly.
Because of what Teacher Wen said, the murmurs in the class gradually subsided.
Ms. Wen liked Xia Zhen very much. She smiled again and said, "If Lu Jin hadn't been so unbalanced in his subjects, he would have made even greater progress. Xia Zhen, your Chinese is very good, but your grades in the other subjects are not so satisfactory. Since you and Lu Jin are deskmates, you can complement each other and learn from each other."
Xia Zhen smiled and replied quickly, "I will!"
After saying that, she looked at Lu Jin and said openly, "Lu Jin, I will learn from you from now on, so please don't find me annoying."
Lu Jin slightly shifted his gaze and gave a soft "hmm".
Another boy, unwilling to give up, tried to bite the handkerchief.
"If my grades were this good, wouldn't the goddess come and learn from me?"
"Damn it! Did Lu Jin foresee this all along, which is why he's been studying so hard behind our backs?"
"This young man's cunning is truly terrifying!"
The math class representative realized what was happening and slammed his fist on the table in anger, exclaiming, "This kid is terrifying!"
The class representative for Chinese language glanced over.
The math class representative hurriedly covered his head and buried his face in his hands on the desk to concentrate on reading.
Teacher Wen said that Lu Jin still has a lot of room for improvement. He is already third in the grade. How much more do he need to improve?
Su Nuo kept her head down and didn't say a word.
Teacher Wen said with a smile, "Lu Jin, I look forward to the day when you shine."
Su Nuo clutched the hem of her clothes, her eyes dimming.
After morning self-study, unexpectedly, before leaving the classroom, Teacher Wen looked at Xia Zhen and said, "Xia Zhen, come out for a moment."
Xia Zhen resolutely tried to stand up, but the boy held her hand tightly and did not let go.
Lu Jin asked, "Teacher Wen, is something the matter?"
He never takes the initiative to approach or speak to teachers; this is the first time.
If Ms. Wen had only suspected it before, she was now basically certain. However, she didn't show any emotion on her face. She simply said, "I need to help Xia Zhen analyze her grades. I'll let her go back before class."
Xia Zhen reassured her, "Yes, I'll be back soon."
Lu Jin slowly released her hand, but his gaze remained fixed on her until Xia Zhen followed Teacher Wen out of the classroom and disappeared from sight.
A boy ran over, slammed his hand on his desk, and shouted without any politeness, "Lu Jin!"
"You're something else!" This was another boy who came over, and his expression wasn't too good either.
The third person walked over and said, "So you're usually so quiet, but you're actually full of tricks up your sleeve!"
"You really will stop at nothing to get the goddess's attention!"
More and more people gathered around.
Faced with this group of menacing and seemingly hostile boys, Lu Jin didn't even bother to raise his head. He had experienced too many things like this since he was a child, and he had anticipated this situation when he decided to stop hiding his talents.
With so many people talking to him, he calmly flipped through his book, completely ignoring them!
Someone, unable to bear it any longer, shouted again, "Lu Jin!"
Class monitor Gao Ling was about to get up to stop the situation from escalating when she heard the boy over there shout, "Teach me how you study!"
Gao Ling paused for a moment.
"How did you manage to improve so much in your studies? Did you have some kind of cheat code?"
"Brother Lu Jin, if you teach me how to study, I'll take care of the sanitation for your land from now on!"
"What are you calling me 'Big Brother' for? Aren't you ashamed of trying to claim kinship with me? Uncle Lu, I'll treat you to dinner, but you should teach me first!"
