Chapter 189 World Reset (Part 1)
For Ruan Mianmian, Song Heng was like the most beautiful dream in her heart during her teenage years.
Even though others say Song Heng is a school bully and that he's scary, she knows he's actually a very kind person.
She will never forget her senior year of high school.
It was a rainy day. A rebellious boy squatted under a tree, poking a small white cat in a cardboard box with great interest.
The rain blurred the perfect lines of his profile, but it seemed to soften his expression, and even the scar on his face lost its fierceness.
Ruan Mianmian had heard many legends about him. She heard that he had fought with people from other schools, that he was close to the prettiest girl in the school, and that he did whatever he wanted without any scruples.
Because he is the eldest son of the Song family, a chosen one of heaven.
No matter who says it, the eldest son of the Song family should be a spirited and admired figure.
But when Ruan Mianmian saw Song Heng pick up the little white cat in the rain, she suddenly realized that Song Heng was actually just an ordinary boy.
It was as if it were a secret that only she had discovered, which made her remember him for no apparent reason.
Ruan Mianmian stood in the rain, holding an umbrella. She tightened her grip on the umbrella handle and finally mustered the courage to take a step closer to him, but someone had already run past her.
"Song Heng, what's wrong with you!" The girl who spoke was wearing a school uniform and was pretty and delicate. Because she had run over, her little leather shoes were covered in dirty water, and the ends of her ponytail were wet from the rain, but she didn't look disheveled.
Song Heng held the tiny white kitten, only lazily glancing at her before looking away and ignoring her.
She tilted the umbrella towards him. "Alright, I apologize. I shouldn't have said you were simple-minded and all brawn and no brains. I'm sorry, okay?"
Song Heng stroked the kitten whose fur was all wet, and after a long while, he let out a soft "humph".
Judging from this reaction, it's clear that they're implying, "You're just giving me the runaround."
She sighed, "Young Master Song, I'm sorry. Next time you get into a fight, I should congratulate you on winning right away instead of calling you a brute. I shouldn't have said you're simple-minded and all brawn and no brains. Please forgive me, okay?"
The boy who was squatting in the rain stood up while holding his cat. Because of the height difference, the girl who was originally looking down at him had to look up at him and held her umbrella higher.
He blinked his dark eyes and said casually, "Fine."
Then, he naturally took her umbrella and held it over their heads.
She muttered, "Childish."
He would run out into the rain when he was unhappy, just like a child who had a conflict with his parents and threatened to run away from home, but dared not go too far and deliberately waited for someone to come looking for him.
He's really stubborn. He's been standing in the rain for over ten minutes. If she hadn't come looking for him, he might have actually planned to stay here with this unwanted little cat all day.
Song Heng said, "I'm not naive."
His short black hair was wet with rain, and the water dripping from the ends of his hair soaked his eyelashes before finally sliding down his face and disappearing beneath the collar of his neck.
As he said this, his eyelashes fluttered slightly, and water droplets trembled as well. The boy, who had just been in a fight, now had a strange sense of harmless purity.
She glanced at him, took a tissue from her pocket, and handed it to him, saying, "Wipe it off."
He said, "I'm busy."
Yes, he was holding a cat in one arm and an umbrella in the other.
The girl pursed her lips.
He leaned down slightly, staring intently at her; his meaning was quite clear.
She sighed, and finally, as if admitting defeat, reached out and gently wiped the water off his face.
She asked, "Do you want to keep this cat?"
He nodded. "Yes."
"You can't even keep a potted plant alive, yet you're raising a cat?"
"I have raised baby's breath."
She laughed exaggeratedly twice, "That's because baby's breath is easy to care for. Can you raise a cat the same way as raising it?"
He gave a lazy smile. "You know more than I do. Then come to my house this weekend and teach me how to raise them."
"No, I want to stay home this weekend."
He thought for a moment, then said, "I'll climb over the wall to your house."
She said calmly, "If my dad finds out, he'll kick you out with a broom."
He had no sense of crisis at all. "I'll climb over the wall to your house on Saturday, and I'll take you to the amusement park on Sunday."
She paused, then asked, "Aren't you going to play games?"
Song Heng is a hardcore gamer. He spends his weekends either playing games or on his way to play games. Actually, he has good grades. If he could spend more time studying, he would definitely achieve even better results.
Song Sheng couldn't stand his idle and uneducated lifestyle. He would scold him whenever he saw him playing games, but he didn't care and continued to take his younger brother out to play as usual.
His gaze lingered for a moment. "When you were chatting with those girls in the classroom, didn't you say you hadn't been to an amusement park in a long time?"
She looked surprised. "I thought you were asleep on the table. Turns out you heard what I said."
Song Heng clearly didn't want to discuss this uncomfortable matter further; he looked up at the sky and down at the ground, his gaze refusing to fall on her face.
She laughed and said, "Going to the amusement park isn't a bad idea, but my grandpa wants me to take Tang Susu with me and teach her how to dance, how to dress up, and how to chat with other people..."
He smiled and whispered like a naughty child, "You sneak out here, I'll come pick you up. Just the two of us, don't bring Tang Susu."
Her eyes widened with excitement. "It looks so exciting!"
He looked down at her, clearly in a good mood.
The rain is showing signs of gradually intensifying.
Ruan Mianmian watched the young couple walk away, talking as they went. The girl seemed very happy and kept talking. The tall, thin boy occasionally responded with a word or two. He didn't seem to be a talkative person, but the umbrella in his hand was always tilted in her direction.
Half of his body was soaked by the rain, and he tried his best to keep her from being touched by the annoying rain.
That was the first time Ruan Mianmian realized that the boy who was rumored to be so terrifying could also be so gentle.
She also studied at Shengyi Middle School, so of course she knew that at Song Heng's birthday party not long ago, Song Heng danced with the eldest daughter of the Xia family. Not long after, news spread that the children of the Song and Xia families were getting engaged.
Arranged marriages between families are very common. Like many others, Ruan Mianmian felt that Song Heng and Xia Zhen's relationship was just a family arrangement, and whether they had feelings for each other before was uncertain.
