Chapter 45 Unexpected
Like a bolt from the blue, Hao Hui's consciousness blurred, and she collapsed to the ground, powerless. The teacher next to her quickly helped her up.
Lu Huiming couldn't care less about Hao Hui anymore. He couldn't accept this reality and grabbed the doctor, shouting, "What you said about him being unconscious means he'll become a vegetable, right? Even if he wakes up, he'll be paralyzed. What's the difference between that and killing him! Doctor, our child has always been very smart and sensible. He's the hope of our whole family! You must save him!"
The doctor said with difficulty, "We really did our best."
Seeing that Lu Huiming was holding onto the doctor, the medical staff on the side quickly tried to persuade him to calm down.
After being pulled away by the medical staff, Lu Huiming seemed to realize that reality was something that could not be changed according to his personal thoughts, and he squatted on the ground in pain.
Hao Hui slowly regained her senses from her confusion, and her gaze fell on the boy sitting in the wheelchair.
"Why?"
Hao Hui's words made everyone look at her strangely.
Hao Hui broke free from the person supporting her and walked step by step toward Lu Jin, her expression strange. "Why wasn't it you who got into trouble?"
Just one sentence made everyone around him feel extremely uncomfortable.
Even if Lu Ci is indeed much better than Lu Jin, Lu Jin is still her child. How could she, as a mother, say such a thing?
Lu Jin seemed used to it. His expression remained unchanged, and there was no emotional ripple in his eyes. At this moment, to him, the person who was called his mother seemed to be just a stranger.
Hao Hui didn't know where a fierce resentment and unwillingness had arisen in her heart, especially since the child was looking at her with an expressionless face.
"You're the one who should be in trouble!" Hao Hui raised her hand, ready to bring it down heavily.
Xia Zhen stood in front of Lu Jin, saying, "Calm down. Lu Ci's accident has nothing to do with Lu Jin."
"Get out of the way!" Before Hao Hui could even touch Xia Zhen, someone had already grabbed her wrist.
The skin on those hands was so pale, it was almost blindingly white!
Hao Hui looked at Lu Jin, and her expression froze.
The boy, who never resisted and never showed much emotion in the face of his experiences, was now coldly watching her.
His pale eyes were cold; they were originally a clean color, but now they seemed so calm, to an eerie degree.
The boy's aloof face appeared unusually pale under the lamplight, inexplicably sending a chill down one's spine.
His lips twitched slightly, his voice calm, "Are you sure you want to make a move here?"
He was clearly still a boy with no emotional fluctuations, but at this moment he was like a sword drawn from its sheath, revealing a terrifying sharpness.
Hao Hui felt the coldness from his hand, and her wrist, which he was holding, trembled slightly uncontrollably.
Others gathered around.
Lu Jin released his grip.
Hao Hui unconsciously took a step back. A storm raged in her heart. She felt like she didn't recognize this child who had been controlled by them since childhood.
The principal and other teachers quickly separated Hao Hui and Lu Jin, and tried to persuade them to stay apart.
Teacher Wen stood in front of Lu Jin and Xia Zhen and asked with concern, "Weren't you scared?"
Xia Zhen shook her head, her worried gaze fixed on Lu Jin.
Teacher Wen paused for a moment, then could only say, "Lu Jin, your mother may have been traumatized, which is why she was so agitated."
If people at school didn't know what kind of life Lu Jin led at home before, now, seeing the couple's behavior, they can guess a thing or two.
Lu Ci was wheeled out of the operating room and quickly transferred to the intensive care unit. He had just undergone craniotomy and needed to be carefully observed for a period of time.
Upon seeing Lu Ci lying on the hospital bed, Hao Hui burst into tears. Lu Huiming also looked as if he had aged more than ten years, his back hunched over. But Lu Huiming had not forgotten to find out how this had happened.
The hospital lent them an empty office.
Hao Hui stared intently at Lu Jin, "Why was Xiao Ci injured?"
Lu Jin calmly said, "He said he wanted to talk to me about something, and we went to the back of the teaching building together. There was a strong wind today, and a tree branch fell down. To avoid the branch, he took a few steps back and then fell down."
Lu Huiming couldn't accept it, "How could he have fallen so badly!"
Hao Hui also exclaimed, "Yes, Xiao Ci couldn't possibly have gotten into trouble so simply!"
The couple pointed the finger at Lu Jin, as if Lu Jin were the culprit.
Just as Xia Zhen was about to stand up, Teacher Wen, who was sitting next to her, pressed her hand down.
"Xia Zhen, this has nothing to do with you."
Xia Zhen pursed her lips and sat back down.
The principal asked the director of student affairs to bring out the surveillance footage that he had specially brought from the school. "This is footage captured by the surveillance cameras behind the teaching building. You can take a look."
The director of political education opened the video on his phone.
Although the surveillance footage was partially obscured by tree branches growing near the teaching building, the two people who appeared in the evening could still be seen.
At 6:10 p.m., Lu Ci and Lu Jin stood under that tree.
The characters' expressions were not clear, and their words were not clear either. At first, they were indeed talking about something, but Lu Ci suddenly stepped forward and pushed Lu Jin to the ground without any politeness.
Lu Jin's abrasions appeared around this time.
Unlike Lu Ci's usual image as a model student, he appeared arrogant and acted maliciously in this surveillance video.
Lu Huiming and Hao Hui also looked somewhat uncomfortable.
The wind picked up at night, and the shadows of the trees swayed.
Right above Lu Ci's head, a tree branch, unable to withstand the ravages of the strong wind, fell downwards.
He hurriedly took two steps back, but his foot tripped over the trash can that was placed there. He lost his balance for a moment and fell to the ground towards the flower bed due to inertia. His head hit the sharp-edged stone inside.
Lu Jin, who was lying on the ground, struggled to crawl over and shake Lu Ci's body. After finding that he was unresponsive, Lu Jin struggled to lift the wheelchair, supported himself with both hands, and returned to the wheelchair. Then he disappeared from the scene.
Teacher Wen said, "Lu Jin came to find me at this time."
The principal said, "We are also very sorry about this accident."
"No, this is no accident!" Hao Hui stood up agitatedly. "How could there be so many coincidences in the world? It must be him, he's the one who killed my son!"
Hao Hui's finger was pointing at the boy sitting in the wheelchair.
Everyone had only one thought: she's gone mad.
