Chapter 19 Do you want to kiss me?
For Lu Jin, his life seemed to have remained unchanged. He left for school very early every day, returned home later than most people, and then went out for a while under the pretext of walking the cat.
At least in the eyes of outsiders, his life is no different from before.
As long as he doesn't do anything that the Lu family feels would "disgrace them," Lu Huiming and his wife won't care where he goes.
That day, Lu Jin went downstairs and deliberately found a quiet corner in the neighborhood where the lights weren't very bright, so he wouldn't attract attention.
But someone else sat here before him.
Xia Zhen wasn't wearing her school uniform; instead, she had changed into her usual clothes. As soon as she saw the person who had arrived, she waved to him and said, "Lu Jin, good evening!"
She wore a ponytail, a white skirt that didn't go past her knees, and flat sandals, with all ten toes peeking out cutely. She looked even more youthful and adorable now than when she was in her school uniform.
The kitten in Lu Jin's arms meowed, jumped off him, and walked to the girl's side in a few steps.
Xia Zhen smiled and lifted the kitten up. "Good evening, Xiao Bai!"
The kitten lazily wagged its tail, its eyes seemingly shining.
She walked over to the boy in the wheelchair, holding the cat, and asked him with amusement, "I greeted you, didn't you say anything back?"
He then said, somewhat awkwardly, "Good evening."
Xia Zhen smiled and stuffed a piece of paper into his hand. "I've thought of how you can repay me. I've written it all down. Take a look."
She had previously said that he benefited from the good deeds she had done, so he needed to repay her.
Several clauses were written on the paper:
He waits for her to go to school every morning, unless there are special circumstances.
When she speaks to him, he cannot remain silent; he must respond.
If he had any thoughts or grievances about her, he couldn't keep them bottled up inside.
...
She filled the entire page with her writing, and throughout it, it was all about trivial little things. She even wrote that, between the flower and her, he had to say that she was prettier.
Xia Zhen observed the changes in his expression, but unfortunately, if he really wanted to hide his emotions, she really couldn't tell.
"What did you think after you finished reading it?"
Lu Jin's finger gently pointed to a line of words written on the paper.
This line reads: If they have a conflict, he should directly express his dissatisfaction.
Xia Zhen asked, "What, you think this is a problem?"
Lu Jin's finger moved slightly, landing on a character, "There should be three horizontal strokes here."
He was referring to the character "直" (straight).
Xia Zhen bent down and stared at the paper in his hand for a long time. Feeling wronged, she said, "I wrote three horizontal lines!"
Lu Jin calmly said, "There are only two horizontal lines here."
"That's because I wrote too fast, so it looks like only two horizontal lines, but I really wrote three!"
He said "Oh".
It's such an obvious slap on the wrist.
Xia Zhen put down the cat in her arms, braced herself on the armrests of his wheelchair with both hands, bent down and leaned closer to him, her expression tense, her eyes fixed on him, "It's a test out of 150 points, I've never gotten less than 120 on my Chinese test, I'm not going to be unable to write a single word!"
She was right next to me.
Lu Jin's eyes fell on the girl's defiant face. She was too close, close enough to feel her every breath. It was a tense distance, but he remained unmoved.
He withdrew his gaze and replied calmly, "Mm."
Xia Zhen pursed her lips, "Okay, I admit that my handwriting is a little different from that of the great calligraphers..."
He said, "A little?"
Xia Zhen's face turned slightly red.
This glamorous young lady was hailed as a goddess by her classmates as soon as she arrived at the new school, but when it came to handwriting, she was indeed not very good at it.
While not perfectly neat, it is somewhat crooked and uneven.
Even her former teachers said she needed to practice her handwriting, and she would always agree but then forget about it the next day.
Xia Zhen was a little embarrassed. She muttered, "I came here to exercise with you out of kindness, and you're just picking on me like this... Never mind, I'll just print out a copy for you."
She tried to snatch the paper from him, but he folded it up first and put it in the pocket of his school uniform jacket.
Lu Jin said calmly, "No need for that. I owe you a favor, and I will try my best to do what you asked me to do."
Xia Zhen blinked, then grinned and said, "Lu Jin, I've noticed that you seem to be a bit arrogant."
He asked instinctively, "What?"
She smiled and asked him, "Why don't you dare look at me?"
His gaze returned to her face. "I'm not afraid to look at you."
"Nonsense." Xia Zhen leaned forward, getting even closer to him. She smiled as she looked at the boy's clean, jade-like face, and deliberately lowered her voice, "You'd better loosen your grip a little, or you'll prick your own palm."
Lu Jin's hand, which had been quietly clenching, stiffened slightly.
Xia Zhen was like a little devil who had succeeded in her scheme. Her beautiful eyes curved into crescents, and the upturned corners of her eyes held a charm that only he could see. Her gaze was intense. "Lu Jin, do you want to kiss me?"
The girl's lips also had a beautiful curve, and the pink color was dazzlingly alluring.
Lu Jin's Adam's apple bobbed, but he immediately denied it, "No!"
This time, his voice lost its previous calm and indifferent tone, and his volume unconsciously increased a few decibels. This abnormality almost completely exposed the ugly thoughts he was trying to hide.
He knew she always liked to push her luck.
Every time she broke through his defenses, she would smugly wait to enjoy the sight of him losing his composure.
Surprisingly, she simply responded with an "oh," just as perfunctorily as his previous answers.
Xia Zhen seemed to have given up on playing with him, and she straightened up.
Although the figure had disappeared, her scent still lingered around his nose.
Lu Jin still dared not breathe too loudly.
“The doctor said that in addition to medication, you also need to do rehabilitation training. You’ve been in a wheelchair for too long, so you need to practice more. I’ve found a lot of rehabilitation training materials, take a look…” Xia Zhen took out her phone, which was filled with various video and text materials, making it difficult to see. She clicked on one of the videos, “I also consulted the doctors, and they said that we can start with this simplest training, like this.”
"I know."
Xia Zhen was stunned for a moment, but she quickly understood.
Lu Jin lowered his eyes and said softly, "For so many years, I've always hoped for a miracle, that I could stand up again."
He was conflicted.
Everyone told him that he would never be able to stand up again, but he used to be a man who could walk and run, so how could he be willing to sit in a wheelchair for the rest of his life?
So he secretly collected a lot of information on rehabilitation training.
"Lu Jin."
He looked up at her.
A warm smile appeared in Xia Zhen's eyes. "The day you stand up, I'll give you a kiss, okay?"
Whether he was mesmerized by the girl's smile or by the cold night wind, the boy in the wheelchair had blurred vision.
Even the heart seemed to stop beating at that moment.
