Chapter 160 Field Patrol

At this moment, the village chief also arrived. When he saw Mo Qianshang, the village chief's face beamed with a smile brighter than a chrysanthemum.

"Madam Mo is here. Is she here to check on the fields?"

Mo Qianshang nodded again. This time, she not only wanted to see the fields, but also wanted to release the fish fry into the pond. With Qin Baiyi and so many villagers with her, it was really inconvenient.

"Village chief, let them go about their business. Don't let me delay things. Just have Aunt Shen take me for a walk."

Mo Qianshang looked at the villagers' enthusiastic gazes, and the little girl who would run over from time to time to give her a couple of eggs or fruits, the little boy who gave her two bird eggs, and the aunt who would come over to give her vegetables.

"Madam Mo, please don't be offended. These are all grown by our family. You must accept them. They are just a small token of our appreciation."

Mo Qianshang couldn't refuse their kindness, and seeing that she accepted it, the villagers' faces became even more sincere.

As expected, the customs of ancient times were simple and honest. Mo Qianchang couldn't help but sigh. In modern times, people give red envelopes. Although it's a bit vulgar, everyone loves it.

The village chief knew that Mo Qianshang didn't want to be surrounded by so many people, so he told everyone to get busy and not to delay their household chores.

"Everyone, go ahead and get busy. Madam Mo is just here for a visit, so don't let her neglect her family matters."

As soon as the village chief spoke, everyone dispersed. Those who were nearby kept glancing in Mo Qianshang's direction while they worked.

Aunt Shen was preparing to take Mo Qianshang with her. She glanced at Qin Baiyi several times. This young master was strange; he always wore a veiled hat. However, his figure was not bad.

She must be pretty good-looking, right? Lady Mo must have high standards, after all, Lady Mo herself is quite attractive.

This young master must be Lady Mo's husband, right?

Although it wasn't her business, Aunt Shen couldn't help but gossip a little.

Qin Baiyi could feel Aunt Shen glancing at him several times, but he could also guess that since he was always the one accompanying Mo Qianshang, Aunt Shen might be thinking the same thing as that shopkeeper.

Thinking of this, Qin Baiyi's mood visibly improved. If he weren't wearing a veil, Mo Qianshang would have been able to see the corners of his mouth constantly turning up.

As Aunt Shen led Mo Qianshang along, she said, "I've been checking on them every day lately, and the potato harvest is good. We're digging up quite a lot every day. Have you ever considered planting something else?"

Mo Qianshang hadn't decided yet. She planned to wait until all the potatoes were dug up before making a decision. She could also try her luck on the nearby hills later to see if she could find any good medicinal herbs.

There were many villagers on the road, and they all greeted Mo Qianshang when they saw her.

"Madam Mo is here! Madam Mo, would you like to come to my house for a visit? I'll treat you to a proper meal. We are so grateful to you; you are our great benefactor!"

Aunt Shen knew that Mo Qianshang wasn't good at refusing the villagers' enthusiasm, so after she dismissed them with a few words, she continued to lead Mo Qianshang in that direction.

They arrived at the fields that belonged to Mo Qianshang.

The villagers below were all working hard, and when they heard that Lady Mo had come today, they worked diligently, afraid that if Lady Mo was dissatisfied, they would lose such a good job.

Seeing the villagers working so efficiently, Mo Qianshang felt even more satisfied.

After a brief inspection, Mo Qianshang prepared to go to the pond to check on Liao Ping and his younger siblings.

I gave him an advance on a month's wages, and I guess he's still a bit anxious. These vegetables are perfect for him.

It's not very convenient to release fish fry during the day, so let's sneak over at night; it's not far away.

Having made up her mind, Mo Qianchang increased her speed.

But when Mo Qianshang arrived at the pond, she found Liao Ping sitting there, and her younger siblings were nowhere to be seen.

Hearing footsteps, Liao Ping turned around and saw that his master had arrived. He immediately went to Mo Qianshang.

"Boss, you've arrived," Liao Ping said somewhat uneasily. The boss hadn't bought any fish fry for so long; was he not planning to continue? "When does the boss plan to buy fish fry? I'm really not at ease taking wages for nothing here. Perhaps the boss could find me some work to do?"

Liao Ping couldn't help but feel a little scared when he saw Qin Baiyi. He didn't know why, but he felt a strange chill.

Mo Qianshang knew Liao Ping would be uneasy, which is why she made a special trip. Also, she hadn't seen the pond that had been dug yet.

She plans to raise grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, and black carp together in a mixed-species tank. She already knew about these four types of freshwater fish in modern times.

Because of their different diets and habitats, these four types of fish are well-suited to being kept in the same pond, making full use of food and water space.

Grass carp are typical herbivorous fish, mid-water fish, and grow rapidly. They especially like tender grass and live insects, particularly aquatic plants.

Black carp prefer to live in the middle and lower layers of water and generally do not surface. They like to eat mollusks such as snails, clams, and mussels, or small aquatic animals with shells such as small shrimp and crabs.

Silver carp prefer to live in open water areas with relatively high nutrient levels. They are surface-dwelling fish that often jump out of the water. They are usually used as complementary fish in mixed-species aquariums. They are typical filter feeders and are known as "water cleaners".

Bighead carp are slow swimmers, easy to catch, and live in the upper and middle layers of water. They do not like to jump and are filter feeders.

Since a pond had been specially dug, Mo Qianshang planned to release 200 grass carp, 50 bighead carp, 100 black carp and silver carp per acre, and intended to let Liao Ping try it out first.

She'll have someone bring the bait over later. It would be great if the pond could be thoroughly cleaned with quicklime, and it would be even better to let it sit for five days before releasing the fish.

But fish produced by the system should be very adaptable, right? So there shouldn't be too much to worry about.

"Liao Ping, what did you feed your fish when you used to raise them?" Mo Qianshang asked, as she didn't know what kind of food people used to feed them in this era.

"Generally, we cut aquatic plants for grass carp, but other fish are free-range, and they will eat small shrimp and other small creatures that swim in the water on their own."

Liao Ping replied that although he said he was raising fish, he wasn't very good at it. He usually let them roam freely, but he cut a lot of aquatic plants.

Mo Qianshang wasn't worried about anything, but sometimes she would secretly put some small shrimp in and let them develop on their own.

Eat as much as you can, and if you can't finish it, you can give it away or sell it. Fresh things are easy to sell, and even fish that have just died can be sold. If all else fails, you can make preserved fish and store it to eat slowly.

"It's okay, just think of it as testing the waters. I won't blame you for how much you produce. It's just a trial anyway, so don't put too much pressure on yourself."

Mo Qianshang did not linger and soon left Dongshan Village with Qin Baiyi.
