It took Master Wen a while to understand what the children were trying to say.
"Are you planning to move to the county town with your family?"
After being pestered by the children, Third Master Wen came over to talk to Mo Qianshang.
"Not really. After all, there are so many things to do here. I plan to stay here when I'm busy, and spend time with the kids in the county town when I'm not. The house there was mainly bought for the kids so they don't have to travel back and forth so often."
Master Wen nodded thoughtfully, his tone tinged with emotion: "You've been a better stepmother than even a biological mother could be."
Mo Qianshang didn't think she was that great: "I'm just providing the children with some help in their lives. A biological mother and a stepmother are different. Since these children have been entrusted to me, I have to be loyal to my duty. Isn't that a simple principle?"
Master Wen did not continue to answer, but he had traveled all over the country and met many people. Many people understand simple truths, but not everyone can put them into practice.
"By the way, I've found a way to get potatoes. Can you spare me 10,000 jin first? I'll transport them over there and let the people there try them out."
Mo Qianshang nodded: "You can hire a convoy. I can arrange for people to load the trucks in Dongshan Village at any time. Since you're the one bringing in the business, you can take 40% of it."
Master Wen waved his hand: "You're being too polite. I only talked about the potatoes and wrote a letter. You've given me so much convenience at the jade mine. Once more jade is mined here, our Wen family's business in various places will reach new heights. I'll be busy sending you money then!"
Mo Qianshang smiled slightly and did not insist any further.
Qin Baiyi changed his clothes and looked at the two people chatting in the courtyard, his brows twitching slightly.
Hearing the noise, Mo Qianshang turned around and found that Qin Baiyi's clothes were much more ordinary now. If he used to look like a young master from a wealthy family, he now looked like a young master from a modest family and was not so conspicuous.
But he was still wearing a mask. Did he think that changing his clothes would make him less noticeable?
Mo Qianshang walked over and tapped it, then pointed to her neck: "The collar is turned upside down."
Qin Baiyi touched the back of his collar, but glanced at Third Master Wen not far away: "Where?"
Seeing that he couldn't quite figure it out, Mo Qianshang reached out and smoothed his collar for him: "Why don't you change your mask into a bamboo hat when you have time? Even wearing a veiled hat would be more common than what you're wearing now."
Mo Qianshang naturally withdrew her hand, not noticing Qin Baiyi's unease: "Or is it... that even I find it inconvenient to look at your appearance?"
Unexpectedly, Qin Baiyi's expression turned cold: "It is indeed inconvenient."
Mo Qianshang gritted her teeth, ignored him, and went to the kitchen to help Yao Shi cook.
Qin Baiyi was left in the courtyard and couldn't help but stroke the jade pendant at his waist.
In the kitchen, Mo Qianshang slammed a knife hard on the chopping board. Little Yao had vaguely heard them talking in the courtyard and couldn't help but come closer.
"Young lady, you and Young Master Qin..."
"Huh?" Mo Qianshang was still angry and didn't react for a moment. When she came to her senses, she didn't say anything for a long time.
"Sis, what are you thinking about!"
She had no idea what Xiao Yao was thinking: "...I'm not even his friend!"
Little Yao didn't believe this: "Ever since Young Master Qin arrived, you've been together everywhere. Aren't you friends?"
With a mocking look on her face, Mo Qianshang was completely dumbfounded: She thought she was making Qin Baiyi her follower to torment him, how did Sister Yao misunderstand and think they were a couple?
“I asked him to run errands. He’s a grown man, it wouldn’t be right for him to eat and stay here for free. Besides, he’s skilled in combat, it would be dangerous for me to go out alone. It’s safer to have a man with me.”
Xiao Yao thought it made sense, but something just felt off.
Mo Qianshang continued to explain, "Besides, didn't you see that he wears a mask every day? I don't even know what he looks like..."
Mrs. Yao was genuinely surprised: "You don't even know what he looks like?"
Mo Qianshang recalled her conversation with Qin Baiyi earlier: "That's right, it's not convenient for me to see them either. Where do you think you can find friends whose faces you don't even recognize?"
Madam Yao hadn't expected things to turn out this way. She thought that although this young master Qin was a bit aloof, he followed Mo Qianshang every day. She had been curious about Master Wen before, but after spending these days together, she knew that Master Wen was married and had a seven-year-old child, so she gave up on the idea.
"Does this young master Qin have a family?"
Mo Qianshang shook her head: "I don't know."
The two spoke quietly in the kitchen, thinking no one else would know, but there was someone in the courtyard who was exceptionally perceptive.
Qin Baiyi reached out and touched the mask he hadn't taken off in a long time, then turned and walked out of the courtyard.
After Mo Qianshang finished her work, she discovered that Qin Baiyi had left home sometime during the day, and no one knew where he had gone.
Does this person not eat?
"Mom, where's Uncle Qin?"
The children sat down and realized that someone was missing from the table.
"I don't know where they went. They just disappeared without saying goodbye."
Mo Qianshang was a little resentful. As soon as she finished speaking, she heard footsteps.
"I'm back."
Qin Baiyi heard Mo Qianshang's complaint and looked at her as soon as she entered the room.
Mo Qianshang turned her back to him and served rice to the children, as if she hadn't seen this living person return.
Qin Baiyi glanced at her and sat down next to Mo Qianshang.
Mo Qianshang served him a bowl of rice at the very end, and also served herself a bowl. When she sat down and started eating, she didn't even look at him.
Even Master Wen sensed that the atmosphere was strange today.
After finishing her meal, Mo Qianshang didn't need to clean up. She wanted to take a walk around the workshop before going back to rest.
Unexpectedly, someone called out to me as I was leaving.
"Mo Qianshang".
Mo Qianshang turned her head and looked at Qin Baiyi, who was almost blending into the darkness under the moonlight: "Is this the only way you can call me by my full name?"
Qin Baiyi was taken aback: "...Mrs. Qin?"
"……explain."
Qin Baiyi turned her head and glanced at the room with the lights on: "Shall we go inside and talk?... I have something I want to show you."
Mo Qianshang felt that the atmosphere was a bit strange, but she still nodded.
She knew Qin Baiyi a little; if she was being called, there must be something important to say.
She turned around and followed Qin Baiyi into the room.
After Qin Baiyi went in, he waited for Mo Qianshang to come in before closing the door.
Mo Qianshang: "..."
Qin Baiyi walked up to her, just as Mo Qianshang was beginning to wonder what he was up to.
Qin Baiyi raised his hand and placed it on his mask.
Mo Qianshang slightly widened her eyes, and suddenly became nervous for some reason.
Qin Baiyi gripped his mask, and with his other hand he reached behind his head to untie the knot.
Mo Qianshang held her breath.
