Chapter 144 Heavy Rain

Qin Zixuan glanced at his older brother, Qin Heming, but Qin Zixuan didn't look at him. He scratched his head and said, "The fight... was because they couldn't win an argument, so they fought over things..."

He couldn't say anything more.

Mo Qianshang nodded: "That's right. Since there's a fight, it must be because two or even several parties had some verbal dispute or were fighting over something, and then one side started it, which eventually turned into a fight, right?"

Zixuan nodded; his mother was right.

"Then you can think of war as a fight between two countries. If there is a war, it is for similar reasons, and most of the time it is because someone is bullying others, coming here to steal things and bully people."

Mo Qianshang continued, "Don't arbitrarily deny the meaning of war, because that's unfair to those fighting on the battlefield. When you don't need to go to the battlefield, but others do, you should understand that they are joining the war to protect their homes and country, and to safeguard peace."

The children fell silent. Mo Qianshang didn't know if they understood. They were still young, and it wasn't necessary for them to understand such cruel and realistic truths at this time.

The important thing is not whether they understand or not, but to let them know that many things in the world cannot be viewed from only one perspective, and they cannot make arbitrary comments based solely on their own ideas.

Qin Heming patted his younger brother's shoulder, his mood not very high. The little boy frowned and asked, "What can we do to help?"

Mo Qianshang smiled slightly: "You are still young and don't need to do these things, but you should all study hard and become people who contribute to the country in the future. As long as there are more people like you, you will become a huge force to change this country, so that there will be no more war and the people can live and work in peace."

As a result, the family discussed many topics about war because of the conscription. However, when they were eating, Mo Qianshang noticed that the weather outside was not very good.

Rainfall in the north is not plentiful, and each autumn rain this year has lasted no more than a day. But today, the clouds seemed to press down almost instantly, and the sky was dark and gloomy. Although it was still afternoon, it looked like evening.

Xiao Yao frowned as she went to collect the things that were drying outside. Mo Qianshang, having finished her meal, also came to help: "Judging from the situation, it might rain today."

Sure enough, it started raining just as evening was approaching. At first, the rain wasn't heavy, but as soon as night fell, the sound of the rain hitting the tiles was deafening, almost like someone was being drenched in a basin.

Mo Qianshang sensed something was wrong and reminded everyone to close the doors and windows tightly tonight. An hour later, thunder roared and a torrential downpour began. Water gushed from the eaves onto the ground, and looking out, it looked as if a curtain of rain had been hung from the sky.

"Luckily we collected them early. The fish and meat you sent earlier have been hung up to dry, but with the weather like this, they'll probably be damp for many days after the rain stops."

Mo Qianshang was talking in Xiao Yao's room. The children didn't want to go back to their own rooms early, so they all huddled together on the bed, the younger ones playing and the older ones reading.

"Where did you put all those things you hung out to dry?"

"They're hanging in the kitchen, but some I didn't have time to hang up, so I put them in baskets and placed them on the stove."

Mo Qianshang looked up from the book: "Leaving it like this might attract rats, and it'll get gnawed on and become unclean. It won't make a difference if it rains for a day or two. Let's find something to cover it up in a bit."

Little Yao put down her needlework: "You're right, let's not let them all end up feeding the rats. I'll go right now."

As she spoke, ignoring Mo Qianshang's words that she shouldn't rush, she rolled up her trousers, put on a raincoat and a straw hat, and rushed out. Mo Qianshang shook her head, both amused and exasperated.

Just a short while after Xiao Yao went out, Mo Qianshang vaguely heard knocking on the door. She was about to get up and go out to see what was happening when she heard Xiao Yao answer the door.

She stood at the door, afraid the children would catch a cold, so she didn't open it. After a while, she heard Xiao Yao rush back.

"What's wrong?"

Ms. Yao looked anxious: "The neighbor's child has a high fever. We bought medicine from the pharmacy and gave it to him, but the fever hasn't gone down. He's delirious now, and we're out of firewood. We've come to borrow some!"

Mo Qianshang frowned: "They've already left?"

"Yes, I carried a lot of firewood over there, and then I went back."

Mo Qianshang picked up her raincoat: "Go get the spiciest liquor in the house, let's go next door."

She turned to him and instructed, "Heming, take your younger siblings with you. No one is allowed to run around outside the house, understand?"

After a while, the two of them went to knock on the neighbor's door. Mo Qianshang was not often around here and had never seen the neighbors before. Judging from the appearance of the house, the yard was not small.

The rain was so loud, and now there was constant thunder, that the two of them had to bang loudly on the door to wake the people inside.

The neighbors lived in the same house. The man who opened the door was taken aback when he saw them: "You two are..."

Ms. Yao quickly introduced, "This is my host family. They heard the child had a fever, so she brought some things to come and check on him. Is that alright?"

The male homeowner nodded repeatedly: "It's convenient, but with the children still together, I'm afraid we won't be able to properly entertain them..."

Mo Qianshang waved her hand: "I know a little about medicine, so let's skip the formalities and let me go in to see the child!"

Upon hearing that she knew medicine, the man of the house quickened his pace and led her toward the child's room: "Really? Then this lady, please come this way, my daughter has a high fever!"

Mo Qianshang entered the house and saw not only the mother of the child, but also two older people. She nodded, took off her raincoat, and turned to look around: "Isn't there a charcoal brazier in this house?"

Before anyone could speak, she said, "Sister Yao, could you go and bring over the charcoal brazier from home, and some charcoal as well? Be very careful, don't rush, pack it up carefully before bringing it over, and make sure it doesn't get wet!"

Little Yao quickly went out. The people inside the room saw that Mo Qianshang was very imposing, and although they had never met her before, none of them dared to speak rashly.

Mo Qianshang walked to the bedside and glanced at the woman with red eyes: "I am the owner of the house next door. Just call me Madam Mo. If it's convenient, I'll take a look at the child."

The woman, though called a young married woman, looked to be only in her early twenties, very young. She slowly stood up and said, "Just call me Manniang, Madam Mo."

Mo Qianshang sat on the edge of the bed: "What's the child's name?"

Manniang spoke softly and gently. Although she was anxious and her voice was trembling with tears, it was still gentle: "Call her Yuru. Everyone in the family calls her Ru'er."
