Since the day they met Qu Ruxue and Zang Wenxing outside, Shushu and Hei Wanran went out several more times, but they never encountered the two of them again.
Shushu knew that Qu Ruxue was definitely plotting something bad and was on guard, but she didn't become like a frightened bird. She continued to live her life as usual.
That day, Hei Wanran was invited by her father, who said he had something important to say. Since Shushu couldn't come along, he moved a deck chair, found a spot in the yard, and comfortably basked in the sun.
Just as she was getting drowsy from the sun, Hei Wanran, who had gone out, came back in a huff, her face clearly showing her displeasure.
Even the servants behind her looked cautious and dared not approach.
When the servant saw Shushu, he acted as if he had seen a savior, winking and gesturing to Shushu behind Hei Wanran's back, as if he wanted Shushu to help appease Hei Wanran.
This was the first time Shushu had seen Hei Wanran so angry since she moved into the Hei family home. She would ask questions without the servants having to say anything.
Therefore, Shushu first nodded to the servant to indicate that he understood, and then sat up straight and looked at Hei Wanran.
Just as she was about to speak, Hei Wanran came to her side and plopped down in the seat she had just vacated, starting to pour out her heart before Shushu could speak.
"I'm so angry! This time I'm going back to Shanghai, and I'm going to be traveling with those two scoundrels."
After angrily complaining, Hei Wanran, without waiting for Shushu to ask any further questions, rattled off the whole story, from beginning to end.
It turns out that Fenggu City doesn't have a teleportation array. To return to Modu, one has to pass through the Wodao Forest outside the city and go to the nearby Yiyuan City to take a direct teleportation array.
Unlike the safe forest where Shushu encountered Hei Wanran, the inner perimeter of the Wodao Forest is home to many late-stage Nascent Soul level magical beasts.
In order to pass through the Wodao Forest safely, the Zang and Qu families rallied other smaller families in the city and went to the city lord's mansion, namely the Hei family, to request to form a team.
Although it's practically a done deal that Hei Wanran and Zang Wenxing are going to dissolve their marriage, the Zang and Hei families still have a cooperative relationship. Since the Zang family took the lead in seeking help, the Hei family couldn't afford to break off relations.
Therefore, after much deliberation, and for the safety of the family members, the Hei family and Hei's father decided to accept the request and travel together through the Wodao Forest.
To cross the Wodao Forest, it would take at least a month, meaning she would have to stay in the same team as Zang Wenxing and Qu Ruxue for at least a month.
The thought of being on the same team as someone she disliked for so long, even though Hei Wanran no longer felt the same resentment as before, still made her feel disgusted.
But she knew in her heart that this was the best choice. If she insisted on not forming a team, her father would most likely agree, but it might also put the Hei family in danger.
She couldn't disregard her family's lives for her own momentary pleasure, so she had no choice but to agree. However, she became increasingly angry afterward, which led to the situation when Shushu saw it.
After listening to her rant, Shushu could understand her feelings. He thought for a while but couldn't come up with a good solution, so he could only pat Hei Wanran on the shoulder to comfort her.
Fortunately, Hei Wanran wasn't one to get stuck in a rut and refuse to come out of it. After venting her frustrations, she was able to let go of her pent-up anger.
Seeing this, Shushu knew that she had calmed down, so he changed the subject to other topics until Hei Muran came over, at which point the two stopped chatting.
Time flies, and before we knew it, it was time to set off.
Knowing his daughter's personality, Hei's father immediately placed the Hei family at the front of the line, while the Qu and Zang families were responsible for bringing up the rear.
There are dozens of small families in between, and they have to travel a long way to see each other.
When Hei Wanran learned of this arrangement, she was overjoyed. Regardless of the reactions of the others, she pulled Shushu onto her personal beast-drawn carriage.
As the beast-drawn carriage passed by the waiting beast-drawn carriages of Zang Wenxing and Qu Ruxue, this guy completely forgot that he disliked the two of them, and very smugly lifted the curtain and began to mock them.
"Oh, isn't this Young Master Zang and Miss Qu? You're here so early. Your group hasn't even set off yet. I'll take my leave first. Remember to protect the rear of the group."
After saying that, Hei Wanran rolled her eyes at the two of them before arrogantly ordering the carriage attendant to set off immediately.
Shushu assured that she heard the two of them gritting their teeth, especially Qu Ruxue, whose eyes were filled with poison as she looked at Hei Wanran, as if she wanted to pierce through her.
However, Hei Wanran didn't care at all. She even hummed a song in a good mood. She seemed to be in a really good mood, as if she wasn't the one who was angry when she first heard the news.
Shushu was stunned, but also thought it was pretty good. She silently gave Hei Wanran a thumbs up and praised her, saying, "You did a good job this time. Keep it up next time."
It's unclear what Hei Wanran was thinking of, but her eyes lit up: "Really good?"
Without much thought, Shushu nodded and replied, "Yes."
Hei Wanran: "Okay, I understand. Thank you, Liuyun."
After saying that, Hei Wanran hugged Shushu's arm and smiled brightly.
The girl was completely baffled. When asked, "Why are you laughing so happily?" she wouldn't answer, only saying, "You'll find out later," and then refused to say anything more.
It wasn't until they were setting up camp that Shushu followed Hei Wanran and watched her let loose, her words as sharp as if she'd taken poison, hurling insults at Zang Wenxing and Qu Ruxue who approached.
Only then did Shushu realize the meaning behind her previous statement.
After learning from Hei Wanran that she had just consulted Hei's father and Hei Muran on how to curse, and that the two had taught her almost everything they knew, Shushu silently shut down her microphone.
Thus began Hei Wanran's career of verbally attacking only Zang Wenxing and Qu Ruxue. Whenever those two dared to get close, she would verbally abuse them until they were speechless.
She only gave up when the two men started avoiding her whenever they saw her and no longer dared to make their presence known.
Meanwhile, after traveling for half a month, their team gradually approached the center of the Wodao Forest.
Perhaps because there were so many people, we didn't encounter any monsters along the way.
Every time they saw them from afar, before they even got close, the monsters would already be gone.
Occasionally, a few audacious individuals would dare to provoke the group, but they would be dealt with by the guards before they could even get close enough to actually approach the team. They were truly very dedicated to their duties.
Just as the group was about to safely leave the heart of the forest, they were unexpectedly surrounded by a pack of wolves at the last moment.
