Chapter 390 Stopped at the City Gate

Lu Li was standing next to Shushu when he heard her telepathic message and was momentarily stunned.

But after hearing what Shushu said, he immediately showed a knowing look.

Under the wide-eyed gaze of Shuli beside him, he calmly handed Shushu a clean spirit fruit before standing behind Shushu and queuing up to enter the city.

If you look closely, you can still faintly see the bruises at the corners of his eyes, which were from when Shuli invited him to meet at the back mountain that day, and he got beaten up there.

At the time, Lu Li did not hide anything and openly admitted his feelings, and made a corresponding promise. Shu Li was still angry. Although she temporarily agreed not to stop him, she couldn't help but beat him up.

Given Lu Li's skill level, Shu Chi shouldn't have been able to beat him.

But it wasn't that he was in the wrong; he was coveting someone else's precious daughter, and when the father got angry and wanted to beat him up, he couldn't very well run away.

However, he wasn't one to suffer a loss easily. With a little trickery, he managed to get Shu Chi's fist to hit him in such an obvious place as his face.

In the end, Lu Li returned with his injuries, and Shu Mai saw him. Shu Li even twisted his ear.

Even after Shushu noticed the marks on his face, she glared at Shuli a few times. Lu Li was so happy at the time that he tried his best to hold back and didn't show a triumphant smile in front of Shuli.

As for why the injury hasn't healed after several days, it's all thanks to Shushu's concern.

Ever since Lu Li was beaten up, Shushu has been visiting him at the same time every day, and she has also thoughtfully prepared special pills for him.

Lu Li was enjoying the care from his sweetheart, so he was reluctant to recover. Several times, he even tried to provoke Shu Li, hoping to get him to beat him up again.

Of course, Shuli wasn't really stupid. After a couple of times, he understood the stinky phoenix's ill intentions and stopped using violence, resorting instead to verbal harassment.

Both Shushu and Shumai are equally thick-skinned; one didn't notice, and the other was oblivious. They simply didn't understand why their father, Rat, always disliked Lu Li, and could only try to smooth things over.

Shu Chi, however, saw through the situation and, after weighing the pros and cons, decided that Lu Li was the best candidate. Moreover, with Shu Li stirring up trouble in the middle, it decided to remain on the sidelines.

To be honest, watching them come and go every day is actually quite fun, Shu Chi thought to himself.

Little did Shushu know that while she was thoroughly enjoying watching the dragon drama, her ancestor was also thoroughly enjoying watching her drama. It truly proved the saying that while you are admiring the scenery, the scenery is also you.

Okay, back to this, perhaps because Xuanwu has a mild temperament, the process of entering the city was very slow. It took them quite a while before it was finally their turn to enter the city.

The dragon clan was very generous, saying they would cover everyone's expenses, including the spirit stones needed to enter the city.

Long Yi stood next to Xuanwu, who was in charge of collecting the city entrance fees. As each person passed by, he would place one entrance fee in front of Xuanwu.

When it was Shushu's turn, Longyi put down the entrance fee. Just as Shushu was about to step in, Xuanwu stretched out a claw and stopped him.

Shushu pulled back her foot, which she had almost stepped on, and looked down to meet a pair of fist-sized eyes.

Seeing that the other creature was staring at it, it paused for a few moments before slowly uttering, "Wait a minute." Then, it pointed with its paw to the base of the wall beside it, saying, "Wait here."

Seeing that it meant no harm, the yam didn't think much of it, said "Oh," and then stood over there.

Then, Xuanwu slowly took out a communication talisman, crushed it, and ignored the millet and potatoes, putting them back into the city.

Long Yi, seemingly lost in thought, didn't ask any questions and obediently acted as a payment machine, paying the city entry fee.

Following behind Shushu was Lu Li. Seeing Shushu standing there, he almost didn't think twice and followed her to his stop.

Following closely behind were Xu Ruoyun, Tutu, Shumai, Shuli, Shuchi, and then Long.

Before long, a line of people stood at the foot of the city wall, even squeezing past the Xuanwu statue responsible for collecting tolls.

The black tortoise still felt crowded, turned its head to look, and met a row of eyes. Only then did it realize something was wrong: "Why are you all standing here?"

As it asked the question, it looked towards the city with a puzzled expression.

After watching for a while, apart from a row of dragons squatting in the city as if waiting for everyone, it was no different from usual.

Xuanwu felt its head was spinning, and its eyes turned into circles, clearly expressing the dizziness and confusion in its mind.

Finally, seeing how pitiful it looked, the little potato couldn't bear to keep it dazed and spoke up: "Didn't you tell me to wait?"

Xuanwu remembered after her reminder, his eyes returned to normal, and he suddenly realized: "Oh right, I'm the one who asked you to wait."

But soon, confusion filled his eyes again: "But I only told you to wait, I didn't make them wait too!"

The yam could only offer it some explanation: "They are with me. I have to wait, and they have to wait too. They are waiting for me."

This sounded a bit like a tongue twister, and even after saying it, Shushu realized it and looked embarrassed and unconvinced.

Just as I was considering whether to explain again, Xuanwu seemed to understand, first replying, "Oh, I see." Then, it waved its paw casually, "Then let's wait together."

After saying that, it ignored Shushu and the others, and shouted to the line of people waiting to enter the city, "Next, who's next? Hurry up and pay the entrance fee." Then it continued to work.

Shushu and the others stared at each other for a while before realizing that Xuanwu really had no intention of paying attention to them. They looked at each other in silence.

Finally, it was Rabbit who broke the eerie silence, timidly asking, "Why should we listen to it?"

All eyes turned to Shushu. Shushu remained silent, unable to recall why she had been so foolish as to ask for something and wait here. After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "How about we leave now?"

These words immediately garnered nods of approval from everyone.

Shushu was taken aback and lifted his foot to walk into the city gate, but unexpectedly bumped into a barrier. The barrier was soft and elastic, and did not seem to have any intention of hurting anyone.

Following the lingering aura on the barrier, they met the gaze of the Black Tortoise. As if sensing Shushu's confusion, the tortoise uttered only one word: "Wait!"

Okay, so this really means she has to wait, Shushu said helplessly.

Just as I was about to ask a question, I suddenly heard a rhythmic tapping sound coming from ahead.
