"Your Excellency, although we are just commoners, we still have our pride and absolutely cannot accept such an ignorant village woman as our teacher!"
Led by Doctor Jin, dozens of doctors looked defiantly at the prefect.
The prefect had recently taken allicin and was still feeling quite unwell, so he had a headache upon hearing this.
Clutching her temples, she cursed, "What ignorant village woman! Madam Wan is the one who discovered how to eat potatoes. How can such an extraordinary woman be compared to an ordinary village woman!"
"Moreover, if it weren't for Madam Wan, you probably wouldn't be able to have enough to eat to this day. To put it bluntly, Madam Wan is your savior!"
"Isn't your savior worthy of being your teacher? Is your so-called arrogance what you call ingratitude?!"
The doctors blushed slightly after being scolded by the prefect, but they still insisted on their point.
"We will never forget your life-saving grace. If Madam Wan needs our help in any other way, we will do our best. However, this matter concerns our master's lineage, so we must not be so casual about it!"
“That’s right! We are all prominent figures in Jingzhou Prefecture. If word gets out that an ignorant village woman who has never been to school can be our teacher, where will we put our face?”
Some people even questioned it directly.
"Furthermore, I absolutely do not believe that a woman who is completely illiterate could develop a miracle cure for the plague!"
"Dahei is an animal, different from humans, so it's normal for its condition to be different. We can't prove that allicin is effective just because of this one case!"
The prefect was so angry at their stubbornness that his eyes went black again. He opened his mouth to curse, but Wan Shu stopped him, pulled him aside, and whispered something.
"Your Excellency, I have no evidence and am a woman who has never been literate. It is understandable that the doctors are unwilling to believe me. Please do not be too anxious."
The prefect sighed, "How can I not be anxious? This is a matter of life and death. Every moment of delay will mean another death."
Wan Shu suggested, "I have a lot of prepared garlic extract here. It's not enough to treat all the patients in the entire prefecture, but it can treat some critically ill patients."
“Let’s distribute these allicin compounds to the patients whose conditions are most critical first. As for the remaining patients… how about this?”
“San Shun knows how to make garlic extract. Let him take a group of people and make a batch overnight. Then I’ll use this night to persuade the doctors. What do you think?”
The prefect said, "This method is good, but these people are so stubborn, it really takes a whole night..."
Wan Shu smiled and said, "Your Excellency, please rest assured. Since I dared to propose this method, I am determined to persuade them."
The prefect was already suffering from a splitting headache, but after hearing Wan Shu's explanation, he had no choice but to agree to use this method for the time being.
"Okay, then we'll do as you say. If it really works out, don't worry, there will be a big reward!"
Wan Shu nodded in agreement and walked up to the doctors, led by Dr. Jin.
"Everyone, I'd like to ask you a question: in your hearts, which is more important, medical skill or seniority?"
The doctors exchanged glances, and finally Dr. Jin spoke up to answer.
"Seniority is certainly important, but we are not the kind of people who rely on our seniority. Naturally, we value medical skills more."
Wan Shu: "If that's the case, then it's easy. The reason why you all don't want to learn how to make garlic extract from me is simply because you think I'm just an ignorant village woman with no medical skills."
"Then I'll prove to you that I have medical skills, and that my medical skills are better than yours!"
Upon hearing Wan Shu's words, the doctors were initially taken aback by her arrogant statement, but then they all burst into laughter.
"Hahahaha, how could your medical skills possibly be better than ours!"
"Not to mention that you are just an illiterate village woman, at your age, when you were still drinking milk, we were already taking pulses for people. No matter how skilled or talented you are, your medical skills can never surpass ours."
"Yes! Stop spouting nonsense!"
Wan Shu's expression remained unchanged: "Whether it's just empty talk or not, we'll only know after proof. You can introduce me to a patient you can't cure."
Dr. Jin frowned: "What do you need this kind of patient for?"
Wan Shu: "Of course, it's to treat patients. If I can cure patients that you can't, that should prove that my medical skills are better than yours, and that you will be convinced and follow me to learn, right?"
"This is naturally a way to prove it."
"However, we must warn you first that our medical skills are among the best in the Great Sheng Dynasty, second only to the imperial physicians."
"Someone we can't cure is someone who's about to die? Are you sure you dare to take on that?"
Wan Shu: "I mean what I say. Since I've said it, there's nothing I wouldn't dare to take on."
"Hahaha, good! You just wait!"
Hearing their arrogant laughter, Wan Shu knew they would not let her off easily.
Even so, she never expected that they would bring her such a patient.
Looking at the middle-aged man lying on the bed, covered in blood and breathing almost imperceptibly, even though Wan Shu was mentally prepared, she couldn't help but gasp.
Dr. Jin took in her subtle movements, smiled, and said.
"It's quite a coincidence that I found this man yesterday when I went to visit relatives in Sishui County."
"When I found him, he was fighting with more than ten beggars on the street over a steamed bun. If I hadn't arrived in time, he would have been beaten to death by them."
