Chapter 78 Revealing the Truth

Just as Li Lanzhen was hesitating, she suddenly heard two loud thuds behind her.

She knew it must be people from Hanjiacun who had come down to look for her.

She waved her hand and put the three-layered wooden frame into her space, leaving only the wooden coffin lid outside. Then she heard Han Mingjiang calling her.

"Mother! Mother! Where are you??"

"Han Mingjiang, I'm here. Come inside."

Just then, Li Lanzhen heard Xue Laohu's voice again, "In-law, in-law, how are you?"

Li Lanzhen only heard the footsteps of two people and knew that it was Xue Laohu and Han Mingjiang looking for her.

Thinking to herself: Han Mingjiang already knows about the existence of her space, but he thinks she can perform magic tricks. She thought it would be better to let Xue Laohu know about this as well.

From the time they fled famine until now, Li Lanzhen felt that Xue Laohu was a very upright and kind-hearted person.

If they know this secret, they can cover for me. Even when I settle down, someone should cover for me whatever I bring out.

Since we have this cave, let's take out some food and share it with everyone so that we can get out of here and reach that big mountain with trees and grass.

Currently, there is not enough drinking water, but at least some food would be enough. Without food, too many people would create instability.

Li Lanzhen only wanted to reach Youzhou safely, find a village to settle down in, farm the land, raise her children, and live a leisurely retirement life in ancient times.

She made up her mind, and Xue Laohu and Han Mingjiang walked up to her.

Han Mingjiang stepped forward and knelt before Li Lanzhen, sobbing, "Mother! You scared me to death! I thought I was going to lose you. Waaah!"

Li Lanzhen patted his shoulder and said, "Alright, alright, you're a grown man now, a father yourself, why are you still crying? Get up."

He turned to Xue Laohu and said, "Thank you, in-law."

Xue Laohu said, "No need to thank me. I'm just glad you're safe. What's going on here? It's an underground cave."

Li Lanzhen nodded, "Come with me."

She led them to the skeleton and pointed it out to them.

Han Mingjiang was startled, but he held back. Xue Laohu, on the other hand, remained calm.

He looked at the open coffin, wondering if his in-laws had taken something from inside. But he felt no jealousy, nor did he want to gossip and ask what was inside. Who gets what is destined is fate, it's all about destiny.

“My dear in-law, there’s a coffin here. Let’s put the bones inside, close the coffin, and that will be our way of burying him.”

Li Lanzhen watched Xue Laohu examine the coffin, wondering if he would ask her what was inside. However, Xue Laohu didn't ask anything at all.

This further convinced Li Lanzhen to let him know about her private space.

Xue Laohu called out to Han Mingjiang, "Second brother, come and help me. Don't be afraid. He looks like a very kind person. His soul should have already ascended to heaven and become an immortal by now, so there's nothing to be afraid of."

Hearing this, Han Mingjiang perked up and was no longer afraid. He reached out to take the book to his younger brother, but as soon as his hand touched the book, it instantly turned to dust and flew away.

Li Lanzhen was a little surprised; a perfectly good book had vanished into thin air in an instant.

Turning her head to look at Xue Laohu, who remained expressionless and unperturbed, Li Lanzhen felt even more strongly that Xue Laohu was a man of courage and wisdom.

Xue Laohu bent over with his feet together, clasped his hands in a fist, and bowed to the skull.

"Senior, may I ask where you come from and where you are going? Now that we have met, please rest in peace in your coffin."

Excuse me! We're about to put you in your coffin.

Li Lanzhen immediately took out some yellow paper from her spatial storage and laid it at the bottom of the coffin. Han Mingjiang, knowing that his mother could retrieve objects remotely, showed no expression on his face.

Xue Laohu only glanced at her and didn't say anything. Li Lanzhen's attitude towards him made her think that Xue Laohu was a good person.

Xue Laohu said to first hold the skull, then slowly walk to the coffin, place it on top and straighten it, and then carefully carry all of his bones into the coffin, arranging them into a human shape.

At that moment, Han Mingjiang noticed a plaque where the remains had been sitting. He picked it up and handed it to Xue Laohu. "Dad, look what this is?"

After Xue Laohu took it, he rubbed off the loose dirt with his hands. Li Lanzhen shone the flashlight on it, and she saw the words on it.

At that moment, her pupils widened.

It turned out that the blue jade plaque had a traditional Chinese character "华" (Hua) engraved in the center.

"China!" Could this person also be a time traveler? Is he trapped in this cave, unable to escape?

Li Lanzhen, who was lost in thought, was jolted awake by Xue Laohu's words.

"Hua? Could this be a descendant of Hua Zifeng, the former head of the Imperial Medical Academy?"

Upon hearing this, Li Lanzhen felt relieved, thinking that since he was from the Imperial Medical Academy, he should have a lot of medical books stored here.

Sure enough, Han Mingjiang called out again, "Mother, come and see if there's something buried here?"

Xue Laohu handed the jade pendant to Li Lanzhen. Li Lanzhen hesitated for a moment, but still reached out and took it. She thought that putting it in her spatial storage would be safer than putting it anywhere else, so she would put it there for now.

When the three of them came over and took a look, it did indeed seem like there was something buried underneath where the skeleton was sitting.

They quickly dug away the soil on top, revealing a box about one meter square.

Xue Laohu knelt down and slowly lifted the box out.

He sniffed the air and said, "Hmm, it's a sandalwood box. The contents must be very valuable."

The box was no longer locked. Xue Laohu took half a step back and used his dagger to pry open the lid.

Several scrolls of books were neatly arranged inside.

Xue Laohu glanced at it and said, "It should be a medical book or a notebook."

Li Lanzhen felt that the reason these books hadn't turned to ashes must be because of the sandalwood box.

Xue Laohu said, "When I was picking up the bones just now, I saw that the back of his head must have been hit hard. There was a long mark. I guess he was injured while fleeing. He ended up here by chance."

Li Lanzhen didn't care why this person was there anymore, so she said, "Let's put this box away for now."

In front of Xue Laohu, she waved her hand and put the entire box into her spatial storage.

Even though Xue Laohu knew he had a secret, he was still taken aback when a box suddenly disappeared before his eyes.

Li Lanzhen didn't explain to him, but Han Mingjiang chuckled and said, "Dad, my mom can telekinesis."

Xue Laohu thought to himself: Is your mother retrieving something? This is receiving something, okay?!

He was only slightly shocked, and then showed no further expression.

Li Lanzhen smiled contentedly and said, "My dear in-law, I have something to discuss with you. According to your analysis of the map, it should take us another four or five days to reach the foot of that mountain."

We have very little water, and if we run out of food, it will cause a lot of trouble. I was thinking of taking some food from here and sharing it with everyone. What do you think?

After a moment's thought, Xue Laohu nodded and said, "That's feasible. We can just say that the people here stored it in the cave."

Li Lanzhen said, "That's what I think too."

Xue Laohu further instructed, "My dear in-laws, you can only contribute some wheat bran. Don't bring any cornmeal. Just some wheat flour and wheat bran will suffice."

Li Lanzhen nodded and said, "We can also take out some beans."

After they finished speaking, eight or nine bags of grain appeared in front of them.

Xue Laohu paused for a moment, then stepped forward and touched the sack. "We still need to deal with this. Second brother, come on, let's stack it against this mountainside."

After placing them, the two of them scooped up sand and threw it on top, creating these things that looked like they had been there for a long time.

Li Lanzhen asked, "How did you two get down here?"

Han Mingjiang said, "The rope you left us last time was on the donkey cart. We tied the rope down with us, but the rope wasn't that long. We jumped down when the rope was still halfway off the ground."

Li Lanzhen nodded, "Well, there aren't enough ropes for all this grain, so it'll be difficult to pull it up."

He then tossed out another roll of hemp rope. "Is this enough?"

She looked at Xue Laohu and said, "Since this person is a royal physician, we can prepare some herbs. I don't think anyone will suspect anything, right?"

Han Mingjiang said, "Mom, do you have any coarse cloth clothes? Look at the people in the village, the children are all naked and the adults' clothes are tattered."

Xue Laohu raised his hand to stop him, saying, "You can't take out the clothes, but you can take some herbs."

Li Lanzhen nodded in agreement.

After thinking for a while, she took out the Banlangen granules, antipyretic granules, patchouli water, and medicine for external injuries that she had exchanged earlier, including some herbs.

Seeing that they were all wrapped in paper, Xue Laohu didn't say anything.

Li Lanzhen took a tattered burlap sack and put all the medicine inside.

Xue Laohu looked around and said, "Alright, we should go now."

They arrived at the cave entrance, and Xu Laohu said, "My dear in-law, you go first."

At that moment, the three of them heard ghostly howls coming from the cave entrance above.
