Chapter 98: A Home

As Li Lanzhen walked along, she observed that this was indeed a good place to live. Surrounded by mountains, as long as the entrance to the valley was blocked, it would be difficult for outsiders to find it. Therefore, it was a good place that was easy to defend and difficult to attack.

She was even happier when she heard the elderly people walking by say that the land here was fertile and could grow good crops.

The mountains on three sides are very high, with layer upon layer of peaks. Even in this valley, near the mountainside, there are trees of all sizes. There are also trees in the middle of the valley, but they are not tall and are covered with weeds.

This middle road was probably cut out by these six young men on the spot.

As she was looking around the valley, she heard exclamations of surprise from the people ahead.

Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be more than a dozen wild rabbits lying on the ground, and there was also a live mother rabbit and baby rabbits inside a small cave.

This is really good news.

It got dark, and they couldn't see inside the cave, so everyone gathered in front of the cave and quickly cleared out a large area.

The cleared weeds were piled into several bonfires, and the young man went to the surrounding woods and found many dead trees to bring back.

The campfire must not be extinguished at night.

And so, the villagers gathered around the campfire, laid out straw mats, and settled down.

Dinner was shared by people from the three villages.

Xue Bao and his group of young men carried more than a dozen wild rabbits to the river to slaughter and clean them. They also picked several baskets of wild vegetables from the riverbank, washed them, and carried them back.

The women took the rabbit, chopped it into small pieces, and stewed it with wild vegetables to make rabbit and vegetable soup.

The woman on the other side used wild vegetables and dark flour to make wild vegetable pancakes.

That night, both adults and children enjoyed their meal.

Because of the famine, many people hadn't eaten meat for more than two years. Today, they ate their fill of meat and soup. After fleeing famine for so long, they finally had a place to settle down. They were relaxed and happy.

Even the children know that this is their home. They will settle down here, play with their friends, and no longer have to run after the adults. They will run when it gets dark, when it gets hot, on mountain roads, and even when the flood is chasing them.

Their little legs were in terrible pain, but there was nothing they could do. They all knew that their parents carried the family on their backs, and more importantly, they had to run even if they had to cry and shout.

But today, not only did I get to eat wild rabbit meat here, but I also decided to stay here with my parents. This is home now, and I don't have to travel anymore.

Han Shunde arranged for people to keep watch at night, also in three shifts, with three people in each shift.

Everyone else, filled with longing for a better life ahead, drifted off to sleep.

Tiger Xue and Leopard Xue remained vigilant, worried that the aroma of the wild rabbit soup they ate that night might attract large animals.

But their worries were unnecessary; they remained safe until daybreak.

When Li Lanzhen woke up, the children were chattering and chasing each other around, making the valley both joyful and quiet.

She had never felt so at ease, peaceful and serene since she transmigrated here.

She stretched and sat up, intending to enter the space to check the supplies she had exchanged.

Because she guessed that the transmigrators with access to interstellar space had probably all received a notification from the system that the mall was permanently closed. So, during those 24 hours, as supplies were being transferred at lightning speed, her own exchanged supplies were also flying in and out in a dizzying rush.

To this day, she has no idea what supplies she has in her space. The shop is gone, and she's too lazy to check it. Anyway, the space is still there.

These past few days, I've only taken things out of the space when needed, without checking it.

But she's not in a hurry anymore; the most important thing right now is to settle things at home.

She wanted to choose a cave because her family was large and she wanted to live in a spacious place. Perhaps she would have to stay in the cave until spring when the flowers bloomed next year, and only then could she build a house. Even if she didn't have modern tools and relied solely on manual labor, it would probably take two or three months to build the house.

So, she wanted to be a little selfish and choose a better cave.

At that moment, Han Yinan led a group of children rushing over joyfully.

"Grandma, we chose a cave. Grandpa the village chief said you could choose first, but we thought you were sleeping, so we went and chose one."

Li Lanzhen's heart skipped a beat. What would these silly kids choose?

The choice has already been made. If we don't allow a re-selection, the villagers probably won't agree, and even if they do, they'll likely feel uncomfortable.

Li Lanzhen didn't say anything, but quickly stood up and called to the children.

"Come on, let's take Grandma to see the cave you chose, shall we?"

She arrived at the home they had chosen, accompanied by a group of bouncy, jumping children.

Seeing the cave in front of him, Li Lanzhen smiled. The children must have thought the same thing as him.

Li Lanzhen wanted to choose a cave near the mountain, not one where people lived on both sides. She wanted a place that was entirely her own, where she could do as she pleased, and where she had her own space and secrets that she didn't want others to discover.

As a result, these little rascals chose a relatively secluded cave.

To the west of the cave was a wide, low hillside, and 200 meters to the east of the cave was his parents' home.

Next door is Xue Laohu's house, and not far away is Zhang Deshui's house. Next to Zhang Deshui's house is the small cave where Gou Dan and his grandson live.

Li Lanzhen smiled happily.

Tong Huali saw her coming and waved, saying, "Sister, we're right next to your house. Parents said we should be near you."

Li Lanzhen waved her hand and said, "Okay, let's stay close together and take care of each other."

The children eagerly pulled her hand, wanting her to go into the cave.

Xue Nizi, Zhang Yueniang, and Han Yuemei emerged from the cave.

His head was wrapped in old clothes, and he held a large brush made of bundled straw as a broom.

When Xue Nizi came out and saw her, she laughed and said, "Mother, do you think the caves these children have chosen are any good?"

"That won't work, let's ask the village chief to find someone else."

Li Lanzhen waved her hand, "Okay, I'll take care of this cave."

Han Yuemei happily said, "Mom, this cave is so big! It doesn't look very nice from the outside, but it's very spacious inside, and it's divided into several smaller caves."

Zhang Yueniang held her belly in her hands and said to her with a smile, "Mother, this cave is really nice, it's very dry inside."

Li Lanzhen looked at Zhang Yueniang. She had changed a lot. When Li Lanzhen came to see her after her time travel, she was timid and didn't dare to raise her head when speaking to her. Now she was cheerful and generous.

Li Lanzhen liked her eldest daughter-in-law now, and gave her a reproachful look, "Eldest daughter-in-law, you're heavily pregnant, so don't do any work. Don't hurt your health."
