Chapter 143 Don't Move

Li Lanzhen continued walking forward along the courtyard wall. Whenever she noticed any movement, she would immediately crouch down and squat on the ground without moving.

Right next to the courtyard wall was a grove of trees, and the ground beneath the trees was planted with flowers and grass, so as long as she didn't make a sound, no one outside could see her.

And so, Li Lanzhen walked along the courtyard wall, past several bright gates, where the cries for mercy, the shouts and curses grew louder.

Li Lanzhen knew she had arrived at the front yard.

She continued to hide under the courtyard wall, where the trees and flowers were even more lush. By the light of the fire, Li Lanzhen discovered that these flowers were very precious and had a wonderful fragrance.

Li Lanzhen quickly covered her nose with her hand, afraid that the strong fragrance of the flowers would make her sneeze.

Leaning against the courtyard wall, squatting there, Li Lanzhen carefully observed the area in front of her.

This should be the courtyard in front of the main hall of the front yard.

All around stood government officials and soldiers, some holding knives, others whips, and clubs.

There were more than a dozen lanterns hanging high, so the area was brightly lit.

On the three steps, under the eaves of the main hall, there was a grand chair, and sitting on it was a man with a pointed mouth and monkey-like cheeks.

His arms were wrapped in thick cloth, and his face was pale as he stared at the people kneeling on the ground in the courtyard with hostile eyes.

There was a tall coffee table next to him, and two burly men stood behind him.

This person must be that damned Imperial Uncle.

At this moment, there were more than a dozen people kneeling in the courtyard, and three others were hanging high on the trees in front of them, being whipped by three yamen runners.

Li Lanzhen then heard the emperor's brother-in-law shouting.

"Beat me! If you won't talk, beat me to death!"

"They're in cahoots with the assassins. If they tell me where the assassins are hiding, I'll let them go home and spare their families. Otherwise, the whole family will die!"

His words only intensified the lashes of the bailiffs, which lashed the three men hanging from the ground with even more merciless whippings. The men kneeling on the ground kowtowed repeatedly, begging for mercy.

"Your Excellency, please spare us! We really don't know anything about assassins. We've been at home all day and haven't gone anywhere."

Seeing this scene, and realizing that he couldn't help anyway, he rushed in to see how many people he could save and how many constables he could eliminate.

What should I do? Li Lanzhen hadn't figured it out yet.

Let's go and collect some supplies first.

Li Lanzhen thought to herself that she would feel no guilt or remorse if she simply confiscated all the supplies from her uncle's mansion.

She was all set. After collecting the supplies, she would set the warehouse and the back room on fire, and then deal with the emperor's brother-in-law!

She crouched down and retreated to the back, where the moonlight was on.

She knew those places must be the courtyards where the women of the inner quarters lived.

They chose a courtyard that looked very high-end.

Li Lanzhen felt that this should be the courtyard of the wife of the emperor's brother-in-law.

The legitimate wife's dowry should be substantial, and given her power within the government office and the inner quarters, she must have amassed considerable wealth.

Don't all these ladies in mansions have their own little storerooms? Let's put away the storerooms first, and then set the fire.

Li Lanzhen was lucky enough to find three warehouses.

However, these three warehouses were much smaller than the warehouses I had just entered.

Moreover, the lock on the door can be opened easily.

When she went inside, she found that it really was her dowry.

Many of the boxes looked very old, probably more than ten years old, but they still had red "double happiness" characters pasted on them.

Li Lanzhen didn't have time to look closely and waved her hand to take them all in.

The other two rooms were mostly filled with fabrics and clothes.

Li Lanzhen looked at the clothes and saw that there were silk and satin as well as coarse cloth. The clothes were of all kinds of silk and satin, as well as coarse cloth clothes that were stacked up.

Li Lanzhi knew that these must all be the clothes of the masters and maids.

They put everything into their spatial storage and then went to the third small storeroom.

Upon entering, Li Lanzhen smiled; the room was filled with all sorts of ingredients, grains, vegetables, meats, and many tonics and medicinal herbs.

With a wave of his hand, he collected them all into his space.

Li Lanzhen took out a lighter and three torches stained with pine resin.

Pine resin torches are very common in the Valley of Forgetfulness.

Li Lanzhen then asked Han Minghai to make more than 20 for her.

She put them all into her spatial storage, and now they're coming in handy.

After she lit the torch, she set fire to the doors and windows, and then threw the torch into the room.

Following the same method, the three small warehouses immediately caught fire.

Li Lanzhen wanted to find the kitchen in the mansion of this imposter imperial brother-in-law.

Given this greedy, lazy, and gluttonous fellow's character, he must live a very extravagant life, so there should be quite a few good things in the storeroom.

As she walked, she kept lighting torches and throwing them at whatever she felt could quickly catch fire—a haystack or a window.

And so the fire began to burn, little by little.

Li Lanzhen also found the kitchen courtyard.

There was no one on night duty at the courtyard gate, and the kitchen lock was opened easily. Li Lanzhen pushed the door open and went inside.

I only glanced at it before I smiled happily.

The kitchen is really big. There are two rows of stoves. One row has three large pots and the other row has six small pots for steaming buns. There are three steamer baskets for steaming buns. One is a square one and the other two are round and smaller.

She lifted the lid of a steamer basket, which was full of steamed buns, still warm. She picked one up, took a bite, and found it delicious. She ate one in a few bites, then picked up another and ate it.

With a wave of her hand, she began storing things into her spatial storage while still eating.

Similarly, nothing could be left behind; she even took the iron pot off the stove and stored it in her spatial storage.

The iron pot is a good thing; it will be very useful when we take it back to Forget-Worry Valley.

After all the pots, pans and dishes in the kitchen were put away.

There was a door on each side of the kitchen. She went into the house on the right first. When the door opened, she knew it was a small storeroom.

Inside were grain sacks and all sorts of jars and pots.

No need to guess, the jars and pots are filled with meat, oil, or pickled vegetables.

They put everything away, retreated to the kitchen, and went through another door.

Unexpectedly, the door was unlocked, and Li Lianzhen pushed it open and went inside.

The moment she stepped through the door, a cold kitchen knife was pressed against her neck.

"You're an assassin!"

A hoarse female voice said in a low voice.

Li Lanzhen was startled. She silently thought to herself:

"Damn it, I was careless!"

People tend to become careless when they are successful!

"If you're careless, you'll lose your life!"
