Chapter 195 Stir-fried Pig Liver with Sauce

"It's alright, I can only feel at ease after seeing a doctor."

An Rong smiled, and the little girl on his back aroused a protective instinct.

She's usually very stubborn and won't let you help her with anything, but now that she's sprained her ankle and is really in pain, she's willing to let him carry her.

An Rong carried her on his back, taking each step with great steadiness.

"An Rong, can you hurry up?"

Lying on top of him like this, it was so hot, and the two of them pressed together made it even hotter.

"good."

The sun was too strong outside, and Anrong was worried that DouDou would get sunburned, so he quickened his pace.

The two returned to the Lu residence, where Lu Xi was waiting for them at the entrance.

"Sister Dou Dou, what's wrong with you?" Lu Xi asked nervously, her voice trembling.

Yuan Doudou asked An Rong to put her down, and stood up straight despite the pain.

"Lu Xi, don't worry, I'm fine. I just twisted my ankle by accident."

Lu Xi looked at her ankle, which was swollen badly.

"I'll boil some eggs to help reduce the swelling." Lu Xi had learned this from the old people in the mansion; when someone made a mistake and was slapped, their face would swell up, and this was the method they used.

Yuan Doudou watched his retreating figure and felt a pang of sadness. He was young but knew a lot, which made her feel sorry for him.

An Rong looked at her and saw that she looked disappointed, so he assumed it was because of her foot pain.

"DouDou, let me take you to rest first."

An Rong carried Dou Dou on his back and walked towards Qingfeng Garden. On the way, they encountered Haitang carrying a plate.

"Can't you watch where you're going? This plate contains bird's nest. Can you afford to pay for it if you break it?" Haitang thought disdainfully to herself.

Yuan Doudou was lying lazily on An Rong's back, almost falling asleep, when Haitang's shout woke her up.

"You should pay for what you broke. What does it have to do with us? And let me remind you, don't make trouble for yourself." Haitang is really interesting. Yuan Doudou was amused by her.

What a terrible day! I encountered a domineering woman outside, and then I ran into the same person again when I got home.

Haitang was so angry that her nose almost crooked. "Yuan Doudou, don't take yourself too seriously."

"so what?"

Haitang's eyes widened: "What, so what?"

"So what makes you so noble? Are you a maid or the mistress?" Yuan Doudou was blunt and to the point.

On their first meeting, Haitang glared at him and gave him a cold shoulder.

"You, it's none of your business." Haitang slunk away with the plate, regretting that she hadn't held back. Her master had warned her that if she dared to disrespect Yuan Doudou again, she would be forced to leave the Lu family forever.

Yuan Doudou had no idea what she was up to; she only saw her fleeing in disarray, which was somewhat comical.

"Why are you being so polite to her?" An Rong carried her on his back and continued walking forward.

"You're too kind. I didn't feel that way myself." She just didn't want to cause any more trouble.

An Rong smiled without saying a word; his wife was just too kind.

Upon arriving at Qingfeng Garden, An Rong placed Dou Dou on the bed and let her lie down to rest. He then knelt down to take off Dou Dou's shoes and neatly arranged them beside the bed.

"Bear with it, let me check the wound." It had been so hot the whole way, and he was worried that the wound would get worse.

Yuan Doudou sat there, not daring to move, her right ankle still hurting.

An Rong carefully took off her shoes and socks, revealing her smooth and delicate right foot, with each toe pink and tender.

He panicked and looked at the wound, which was quite swollen and red.

"This needs an ice pack. I'll go find Lu Chaoyang." An Rong thought that Lu Chaoyang would be off duty at that time.

Ice is something that most families don't have, and even those who can afford it can't use it just anyone in the family.

"Forget it, it'll pass if I just bear with it." She was afraid of pain, but she could also endure it.

Seeing her furrowed brows, An Rong guessed she must be in a lot of pain, and he felt sorry for her too.

He helped DouDou put on her shoes and socks, and said with a smile, "Then I'll go cook first. If you're hungry, have some dried fruit first."

"Okay, thank you for your help."

An Rong was bewildered by her lukewarm remark. He had taken her indifferent tone towards Li Tianlang as a sign of keeping her distance, but now Dou Dou was treating him the same way. Was she also keeping her distance from him?

His mood plummeted, but he still turned and walked towards the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Lu Xi was starting a fire to cook rice.

"Brother Anrong, do you think the water I added is right?" Following Anrong's instructions, he rinsed the rice clean and then added water that covered his palm.

An Rong glanced at it and casually remarked, "There's a bit too much water."

"Okay, then I'll skim some water out." Lu Xi scooped some water into the bowl with a spoon.

An Rong looked at it and said "okay".

After cutting the pig liver, soak it in alkaline water for a while to remove as much blood as possible.

"Brother Anrong, what is this?" Lu Xi asked, sticking his head out. He had never seen such a bloody mess before.

"Pig liver, haven't you ever had it before?"

Lu Xi remembered that the manor often made pig liver, and he always ate the cooked version, which felt quite different from the raw version.

The pig liver was really unpalatable, so why would Brother Anrong buy it? Was it because it was cheap?

"You don't like pork liver?" An Rong noticed his serious expression.

Lu Xi nodded, "Brother Anrong, this stuff doesn't taste good."

He guessed that Dou Dou Jie wouldn't like to eat it either, so Brother An Rong's efforts would probably be in vain.

"Pork liver is good for replenishing blood, which is good for pregnant women," An Rong explained.

Lu Xi suddenly realized that Brother An Rong bought pig liver to tease Sister Dou. How nice!

“Brother Anrong, teach me how to make it, so I can make it for Sister Doudou in the future.” Lu Xi volunteered.

An Rong rinsed the soaked pig liver several more times until the water became clear.

"Okay, then watch carefully."

An Rong would explain why he did each step he took.

"To make pig liver taste good, you have to be willing to use a lot of oil." An Rong first fried the pig liver in oil to remove the fishy smell.

Lu Xi looked at the bubbling pig liver in the oil pan and seemed to smell a delicious aroma.

"After frying the pork liver, set it aside. In a separate pan, heat oil, add ginger and garlic, fry until fragrant, then pour in soy sauce. If you can handle spice, you can add green peppers at this step and stir-fry. Once the seasoning is ready, add the fried pork liver, stir-fry evenly, and remove from the pan immediately. Pork liver tastes better when it's tender."

"Since you're pregnant, you need to eat less spicy food. Today I'm making stir-fried pork liver with soy sauce, which is salty."

Lu Xi memorized everything; she had no idea how complicated it was to make pig liver.

"Brother Anrong, the stir-fried pork liver is ready. How do you make the tofu?" Lu Xi looked at the pork liver, resisting the urge to drool.

"Make Mapo Tofu."

An Rong first cut the tofu into small cubes and soaked them in salt water.

Tofu is delicious and nutritious when cooked in its original flavor, but it can be a bit bland. When made into Mapo Tofu, it becomes slightly spicy and numbing, and has a smooth and delicious texture, making it much tastier than when simply stir-fried.

"Okay, I like to eat it." Lu Xi loves spicy food.

An Rong laughed when he heard this, "So young, yet you can eat spicy food so well. You're probably from Sichuan."
