Chapter 238 Jealousy

"Is Anji asleep?" An Rong finished hanging up the diaper and turned to look at the head of the bed. Anji was sleeping with his back to him at the innermost part of the bed.

Yuan Doudou hummed in agreement. "He looked at Tangtang for a while and said that Tangtang was still nursing, and he was a little unhappy about it."

Sometimes, even adults can't figure out what children are thinking.

“He might be vying for favor,” An Rong said, hitting the nail on the head.

Angie's first feeling upon the arrival of his younger sister was one of immense joy; he felt incredibly proud to be a big brother. However, day by day, he gradually realized that his parents' attention was focused on his sister, and no one cared about him anymore. He was no longer the only child in the family.

Angie was heartbroken to see his younger sister steal all his affection.

He turned away, pretending to sleep, but actually he was secretly shedding tears. He dared not make a sound, for fear that his mother would hear him.

Father was busy running around and had no time to pay attention to him. Mother was either breastfeeding her younger sister or putting her to sleep. She wouldn't tell him stories or teach him to recognize and write words like she used to.

He was no longer his mother's only child, and could no longer enjoy his parents' love all to himself.

"You mean he feels that we don't love him anymore because we have Tangtang?" Yuan Doudou was a little surprised. She thought Anji would be happy, and he did seem very happy, not at all like someone who would be jealous or vying for affection.

An Rong didn't expect her to use the word "love," but it didn't seem to be a problem; it did indeed mean to cherish.

“But I don’t feel like I’ve changed at all, so why would he have such a thought?” Yuan Doudou found it strange, as if she were talking to herself.

An Rong thought about it and realized that Anji's reaction was not just about teasing one person, but also related to him. Both of them lacked companionship and care for Anji, which made Anji feel neglected.

"You don't need to blame yourself. We'll try our best to get things back to normal." Of course, it's also important to have a heart-to-heart talk with Angie, telling him about the honor and pride of being an older brother, and the responsibilities that come with it.

Yuan Doudou felt like she had a lump of cotton stuck in her throat; she would feel terrible if this matter wasn't handled properly.

“Yes, I will be careful,” Yuan Doudou agreed.

She thought that as an only child, she couldn't empathize with Anji, but Anrong was different. She had been adopted by the Wang family since childhood and was like Anrong's sister. Perhaps Anrong had the same thoughts back then.

Yuan Doudou has the original owner's memories. In her memories, An Bisheng and his wife treated Yuan Doudou very well, and they always let her eat the best food first.

If she got even a minor injury while going out with An Rong, the old couple would definitely scold An Rong until he admitted his mistake and swore that he would protect his sister. Only then would they stop.

Yuan Doudou felt increasingly sorry for An Rong. Now that the old couple were no longer in this world, An Rong had completely lost their love. He was only twenty-six years old, how could he let go of everything? If he couldn't let go, how did he cope with it?

Thinking about it this way, she suddenly realized that she didn't understand An Rong at all. Although they were husband and wife and she could get timely emotional responses, she didn't resonate with him on an intellectual level.

An Rong fell asleep first at night, and Yuan Doudou felt a warm glow in her heart as she listened to his even breathing.

An Rong must have been exhausted after a busy day, but he slept very quietly, unlike some people who snore loudly at night when they are too tired during the day.

He slept peacefully, and Yuan Doudou wasn't worried that he would disturb Tangtang.

An Rong faced Dou Dou, with Tang Tang between them, and her breath blew directly onto Dou Dou's face, warm and comforting.

By the moonlight, she could see the outline of An Rong's face clearly. The lines were so firm, and the reflection was so three-dimensional. Under the soft moonlight, the scars on his face were not visible at all. It was still the same flawless face he once had.

Yuan Doudou couldn't suppress her joy. Even after so long, her heart would still race when she saw that face. This feeling wasn't as noticeable during the day when there were many people around, but at night, when they lay facing each other, she would feel an impulse.

She reached out her hand, hesitated for only a second, and then stroked his face, lingering on it, trying to feel it carefully. She could touch the fine scars, each one like a whip lashing her heart.

She had a bad idea, a thought that went against human nature: if it weren't for her, An Rong wouldn't be so resistant to the princess, and she wouldn't have ruined her appearance herself just to stay with her.

Perhaps she was overthinking things; Yuan Doudou's mind was racing, and she was clearly preoccupied with worry.

She simply stopped thinking about anything, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

The next day, just as dawn broke, Yuan Doudou woke up to find her two children asleep beside her. She was surprised that Tangtang hadn't woken up, as Tangtang usually woke up crying early, either because she was hungry or needed to pee.

An Rong had already left. Yuan Doudou subconsciously reached into his bed. It was still warm inside, so he must have only been gone a few minutes.

"Tangtang, Daddy takes care of us from dawn till dusk. When you grow up, you must remember to be filial to your daddy," Yuan Doudou said softly in a voice barely above a whisper.

She had barely finished speaking when Angie opened her eyes.

"Mother, I will take good care of you and Father from now on." I will definitely be better than my younger sister. My sister is so young, it's already good enough that she can take care of herself, let alone our parents.

Yuan Doudou turned her head and smiled, "Anji truly lives up to his title as the eldest brother. He's so sensible and filial. Your father and I will be counting on you from now on." Yuan Doudou said in a serious tone.

In Anji's eyes, her earnestness was a sign of his mother's trust in him, and he was overjoyed.

He was still feeling down last night because his parents had a younger sister and no longer needed him. He secretly shed tears until he cried himself to sleep.

Anji got up, looked at Tangtang, and wanted to tell her that her brother was the real man and that only he could take care of their mother and father.

"Mother, you won't abandon me, right?" Angie asked cautiously, his round eyes brimming with tears. He didn't realize that his voice was choked with emotion.

Seeing his caution and the sadness in his eyes, Yuan Doudou felt incredibly sorry for him.

The door creaked open, and An Rong came in carrying breakfast.

"Anji is awake. Daddy will dress you. Let's go eat." An Rong put down the tray in his hand, glanced at Tangtang, who was still fast asleep.

Angie wanted to say that he could wear it, but he was worried that if he said that, it would disappoint his father.

An Rong helped him put on his cotton-padded coat, but let him put on his own shoes and socks.

"Anji, do you want Daddy to carry you?" Yuan Doudou asked with a smile.

Without hesitation, Angie replied, "Of course I want to."

Every day I see my dad holding my little sister, but I never get to be held by my dad.
