Chapter 33 Cultivating Strawberry Seedlings

"Oh? Second Uncle, you also think I went too far?" Yuan Doudou looked at An Bihuai, who had a worried look on his face. No one cared about his reputation more than him.

An Bihuai glared at Zhuang Shuhui, cursing her inwardly for being stupid and not consulting with others before acting.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and he roared, "Shut up!" Wasn't he embarrassed enough already?

"DouDou, this time your second aunt was confused and did something she shouldn't have done. I can agree to any of your conditions, I'll do anything you ask." The family really has no money, so doing some hard labor is nothing.

When Zhuang Shuhui saw her husband speaking to Yuan Doudou in a humble tone, she was so angry that her eyes rolled back and she fainted.

"Since Second Uncle thinks this way, I won't pursue the matter any further. Lord Fang, do you think it's possible to release her?" Yuan Doudou glanced sideways at the unconscious Zhuang Shuhui and chuckled inwardly, thinking, "Why bother?"

Fang Deming gave a signal, and his men immediately untied the person, allowing An Bihuai to take him back.

"Thank you very much, Lord Fang. If you don't mind, you can have lunch at my house." Seeing that Zhou Chuangen was far away, she guessed that he wouldn't be in the mood to entertain these people.

They came for their own business, so it was only natural for her to pay for their hospitality.

"No, my lord is waiting for me to return and report." Before leaving, Zhao Anling instructed him to go and return quickly.

Yuan Doudou understood the nature of his work and didn't insist.

"DouDou, I really can't stand by and watch you, your second aunt. Why are you always causing trouble for me?" Zhang Aiju walked up to Yuan DouDou after the officials left, standing up for her.

Yuan Doudou shook her head and sighed, "Auntie, I'm used to it." Some people are like dogs that can't change their nature, and she predicted that Zhuang Shuhui would not turn to good in the future.

Wang Qiqiang worriedly said, "Dou Dou, I'll keep an eye on the greenhouse from now on, so you don't need to worry. If she dares to cause trouble again, I'll break her legs with a stick."

Zhang Aiju was genuinely surprised to see the fierce expression on her usually honest son's face.

Yuan Doudou waved her hand and smiled calmly: "No need to trouble yourself, I don't think she has the guts." Having learned her lesson once, she wouldn't be foolish enough to make the same mistake again.

Zhang Aiju disagreed, reminding Yuan Doudou to be more careful and instructing her son to check on her whenever he had time.

Yuan Doudou was very grateful and picked some oyster mushrooms from her home for Zhang Aiju to take back.

Zhang Aiju didn't stand on ceremony and carried the basket home.

"DouDou, how did things go?" Wang asked as soon as her daughter-in-law returned.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she learned that the matter had been resolved satisfactorily.

The thought of her sister-in-law doing such a heartless thing made her burst into tears.

If her husband and son were here, she doubted they would dare treat her like this.

An Rong said he wasn't dead, so why hasn't he come back yet?

"Dou Dou, I've been so worried these past few days, I can't eat or sleep. When will Rong'er be able to come back? Can you go and ask the county magistrate?" She had been holding this in for days, but she finally said it.

Logically speaking, if An Rong hadn't died, he would have written home immediately and rushed back as quickly as possible.

"Mother, don't worry, I'll go to the yamen to ask tomorrow." She wasn't telling the truth. Last time, Zhao Anling had already hinted that although Anrong wasn't dead, he wouldn't come back easily.

She guessed that An Rong might be in some kind of predicament that he was powerless to help.

Yuan Doudou dared not speak.

"Okay, be careful," Wang instructed.

Li Dahai and his apprentices were tidying up the greenhouse. Some materials could be reused, but the main tarpaulins and frames needed to be purchased separately.

He made a list and handed it to Yuan Doudou.

"Brother Li, why don't you eat before you go?" It was just lunchtime.

Li Dahai smiled, waved, and left.

Li Dahai felt very sorry about what happened, and he offered to let them know that the remaining wages didn't need to be calculated.

Yuan Doudou felt that it wasn't his fault, and that wages should be calculated based on working hours, so they shouldn't be treated unfairly.

Seeing that Yuan Doudou was discerning and reasonable, Li Dahai and his apprentice worked even harder.

Yuan Doudou spent the whole afternoon busy in the kitchen. Tomorrow she would go to the market, first to deliver oyster mushrooms to Haoqinglai, and then to the market to sell candied strawberries.

There were very few strawberries left on the mountain. While picking strawberries, she suddenly had a bright idea: if she grew her own strawberries, she would have a continuous supply of strawberries in the future.

Selling candied hawthorns alone doesn't generate enough profit; expanding planting is the only way to earn more.

She dug up ten strawberry seedlings from the mountain and planted them in the yard while the weather was warm.

After planting the strawberries, Yuan Doudou went to the kitchen to make syrup and coat the strung strawberries with it.

Anji pointed at the candied hawthorns, his mouth watering, clearly wanting to eat a skewer.

But this is what his mother uses to sell for money, so he can't eat it.

Yuan Doudou looked at the little expression on his face and said with a smile, "Come on, Anji, help your mother taste if it's delicious."

In order to allow Anji to enjoy the food legitimately, Yuan Doudou gave him the title of food taster.

"It's so sweet!" Angie picked up the candied hawthorn and licked it with his tongue.

His mother said that eating too much candy is bad for a child's teeth, so he only ate one piece and then stopped.

"Why aren't you eating?" Wang asked from the side.

Wang thought Anji was reluctant to eat, so she comforted him, "It's okay, there's plenty here, just eat as much as you want."

Angie shook his head and said, "No, if you eat too much candy, your teeth will get cavities."

Wang remembered that these were words Yuan Doudou had said, and thought to herself that Anji was an obedient child.

“Anji has such a good memory; he can finish this whole skewer and then stop,” Yuan Doudou said with a smile.

"Really? Then I'll eat it." Angie happily started eating.

As evening approached, Yuan Doudou stuck the candied hawthorns one by one into the bundle of straw, about a hundred of them.

For dinner, Yuan Doudou cooked a pot of sweet potato porridge and served it with cornmeal potstickers.

Wang taught her how to make potstickers: add salt and chopped green onions to cornmeal, pour in hot water, stir well, knead into a dough, pinch off small pieces, roll them into balls with your palms, press them into round shapes, stick them to the side of the pot, add pickled vegetables stir-fried at the bottom of the pot, cover the pot, and simmer for ten minutes.

Since she came here, she has been learning and practicing on the spot, and her skills have improved.

"DouDou, you're eating." Wang Qiqiang saw that the door was open and walked into the yard with his bowl.

With the weather warm, Yuan Doudou moved the dining table to the yard, where the open space made the food taste even better.

"Brother Wang, it's a good time to sit down and eat together," Yuan Doudou said, standing up to greet him.

Wang Qiqiang placed the blue porcelain bowl on the table; it contained braised tofu with oyster mushrooms.

"No, my family's dinner is ready. My mother cooked it and asked me to bring some over for Auntie to try." Wang Qiqiang put down his bowl, finished speaking, and walked towards the door.

Wang thanked her and said, "Please thank your mother for me."

Her tone was extremely cold, and she couldn't help but be wary of Wang Qiqiang.

Wang Qiqiang turned around and chuckled, "You're too kind, Auntie."

Yuan Doudou wanted to say something, but Wang Qiqiang had already disappeared.

"DouDou, close the door properly." Wang's eyes were cold.

Yuan Doudou pretended not to see it, closed the door, and continued eating.

After dinner, Anji was playing on the bed when Wang called Yuan Doudou into the inner room.

"Mother, what's wrong?" Yuan Doudou asked quietly.
