"An Bihuai, do you have no shame? You think you can just wash your hands of ten taels of silver? Do you think I'm a pushover? Let me tell you, it's twenty taels, not a penny less." Wang Cuihua spoke rapidly, spitting as she spit into An Bihuai's face.
An Bihuai's face was flushed red and purplish, looking extremely unpleasant.
"Wang Cuihua, don't go too far." Seeing that she was being unreasonable, An Bihuai stopped pretending to be polite.
He felt wronged, since it wasn't him who had messed around outside and suddenly had an extra debt. He glanced at his son and saw him looking like a good-for-nothing.
“An Bihuai, no matter how loudly you yell at me, it won’t make a difference. Give it to me or not, it’s just a matter of one word.” Wang Cuihua had her finger on his Achilles’ heel, and she was full of confidence.
Anjia has a large family, so if they get into a lawsuit, it's inevitable that others will suffer the consequences.
An Bihuai is clever enough to think of this.
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t give it, but you should at least give us a way out. Ask the people here, who can come up with twenty taels of silver all at once?” An Bihuai pointed to the people watching the commotion at the door.
“I don’t care, I think twenty taels is too little. My daughter has lost her virginity and may have to die at home. If this happened to your daughter, would you still think twenty taels is too much?” Wang Cuihua said, tears streaming down her face, feeling sorry for her daughter.
An Bihuai snorted coldly, "If this were my daughter, I would beat her to death with a stick. I would never let her go to the man's house to ask for money and make a fool of herself."
Upon hearing this, Wang Cuihua's mind went blank. She stumbled backward, lost her balance, and fell to the ground, her bottom throbbing painfully. She simply lay on the ground, wailing and crying out.
"Everyone, look at this! The An family are scoundrels! They slept with that girl, didn't take responsibility, and even made sarcastic remarks!" Wang Cuihua used her best trick, slapping the ground with both hands and crying her heart out.
Even the onlookers were moved.
"The An family has really gone too far. After all, it's a matter of the girl's innocence. It's worth more than twenty taels, yet they're unwilling to give it."
"I think we should report this to the authorities and have the soldiers arrest Anping so he can learn his lesson."
Some people disagree.
"It takes two to tango. I don't think Li Xueqing is any good either."
“I knew she had no shame when I saw her clinging to the eldest son of the Wang family, but I never expected it to go this far.”
"Really? There's such a thing?"
The onlookers expressed their opinions.
Anbihuai was so annoyed by the noise that he could only vent his anger on Anping.
He grabbed a broom from the yard and started hitting Anping with it.
Anping raised his arm to shield his head, too afraid to run.
Qian was crying and whimpering beside her, not caring whether she lived or died.
Zhuang Shuhui, protective of her son, shielded Anping from her.
“It won’t do you any good even if you beat him to death,” Zhuang Shuhui cried out.
Anbihuai angrily threw down the broom in her hand, "It's all your fault for blaming him, that's why he did such a despicable thing. What a disgrace to our family."
“You’re the father, and you blame me, the mother, for not teaching him well. If you ask me, you’re a coward, a useless coward.” Zhuang Shuhui was so focused on protecting her son that she forgot what it meant to not scold her husband in public.
An Bihuai was so angry that he was practically fuming. He simply flung his sleeves and left.
Wang Cuihua cried until she had no tears left. When she saw An Bihuai slip away, she quickly got up and ran after him.
"An Bihuai, you spineless man! Your son caused trouble and you don't care, and you even want to run away!" Wang Cuihua caught up with him and grabbed his collar.
An Bihuai was forced to stop and raised his hands in pleading, "I'll go borrow money, let go of me."
It's disgraceful to pull and shove like that in the street.
Upon hearing that it was for borrowing money, Wang Cuihua immediately let go, saying, "Okay, go ahead, I won't stop you."
After finishing dinner, Yuan Doudou cleaned the courtyard of her new home.
"Knock knock knock." Someone knocked on the door.
Yuan Doudou wondered who would come to her door so late.
When the door opened, An Bihuai appeared, looking completely disheveled.
"Second Uncle, what's wrong so late?" Yuan Doudou asked, her eyes downcast.
An Bihuai looked pitiful, carrying a few green vegetables in his hand.
"It's nothing serious, I just brought you some vegetables to eat." An Bihuai held up the vegetables in his hand; when asking for a favor, one should still show some courtesy.
Yuan Doudou thought to herself, "The weasel is up to no good by offering New Year's greetings to the chicken."
"Second Uncle, you might as well just say what you have to say." Yuan Doudou didn't take the vegetables from him, but turned around, grabbed a broom, and started sweeping the floor.
An Bihuai felt awkward and didn't know how to start speaking.
When Wang came out to wash up, she saw An Bihuai and frowned. What was he doing here?
"Second brother, it's so late, why aren't you at home disciplining your son? What are you doing here?" Wang said irritably.
An Bihuai dared not look directly at his sister-in-law; his gaze was unfocused.
"Sister-in-law, you found out?" An Bihuai lowered his head in shame. "I was just disappointed in you."
"Why don't you say that if the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will be crooked too?" Wang Shi was annoyed with An Bihuai when she thought of the past.
An Bihuai was like a wilted eggplant at this moment, suffering in silence.
Who doesn't make mistakes when they're young?
Anping made a mistake because he was too young.
"Sister-in-law, I was desperate, so I had to swallow my pride and come to your door," An Bihuai said dejectedly.
He tried to borrow from all the families he usually interacted with, but he didn't get a single penny.
"What are you doing coming here? To embarrass yourself along with me." No matter what, they're still a member of the An family.
Seeing his sister-in-law's obvious disdain, An Bihuai wished he could disappear into a crack in the ground.
“Sister-in-law, Wang Cuihua came to our house and made a scene. She demanded twenty taels of silver to settle the matter, or she would report it to the authorities and say that my Anping forced her daughter.”
"What can I do? I can only give them money, but that's twenty taels! Even if I sold myself, it wouldn't be enough." An Bihuai's eyes reddened as he spoke.
Yuan Doudou watched coldly, realizing that her second uncle was quite the drama queen.
"Then what are you doing here? You have no money, and neither do we." Wang made a move to drive him away.
Ever since Zhuang Shuhui destroyed her daughter-in-law's greenhouse, she has completely given up on the second wife.
"Dou Dou, I know you're a good person. You won't abandon your second uncle, right?" An Bihuai could only turn his gaze to Yuan Dou Dou.
She is young and kind-hearted; she can succeed by saying sweet words.
Yuan Doudou couldn't help but laugh; her second uncle was quite shrewd.
"Second Uncle, I'm sorry, I really wanted to help, but as you can see, your wife destroyed my greenhouse, and the dozen or so taels of silver she paid in compensation weren't even half the cost. I haven't even asked you for the money yet, and you're here to borrow money from me. I have to admit, Second Uncle, you've got some tricks up your sleeve."
Yuan Doudou was blunt, leaving An Bihuai utterly ashamed.
He wouldn't have shamelessly come to their door if he hadn't been completely desperate.
"DouDou, if you're not going to help, fine, but how can you talk to your elders like that? Don't you know how to respect your elders?" An Bihuai tried to save face.
“Respecting the elderly also depends on whether they love the young. What kind of behavior is this? When I came to your house to borrow money to save my life, the things you and my second aunt said were dozens of times more unpleasant than this, but I still endured it.”
Thinking of the suffering the original owner of this body had endured, Yuan Doudou couldn't bring herself to give An Bihuai a friendly look.
They were like executioners, killing the original owner without even realizing it.
An Bihuai shook his head and sighed, thinking back to the past, he realized that he had gone too far.
Now look what's happened; relatives are no longer close, and elders are no longer respected.
