Chapter 3 A cigarette after dinner (2/2)

She held a small piece of cold steamed bread in her little hand and handed it to Qian Chunhua carefully.

Qian Chunhua looked down and felt a warm feeling in his heart.

It turned out that her daughter always remembered her and specially left this steamed bun for her.

She put it in her mouth without hesitation and said softly, "Thank you, Xiaoling."

Zhao Xiaoling smiled shyly, her fingers unconsciously tangled around the corner of her clothes.

Qian Chunhua chewed the steamed bun carefully. Although it didn't taste delicious and even had a hint of saltiness, she knew that it was the smell left by her daughter's unwashed hands.

However, she did not dislike it. Instead, she thought it was the most delicious food in the world.

She knew that the dinner at home was not rich, and the three children, Zhao Qingsong, Zhao Xiaoling and Zhao Qingfeng, could only eat two steamed buns.

But her daughter still remembered to leave a piece for herself, and Qian Chunhua was deeply moved by her filial piety.

"Mom, I...I have one too." Zhao Qingfeng also took out the dirty steamed bread in his hand and handed it to Qian Chunhua carefully.

"Thank you, son." Qian Chunhua also ate the steamed bread without hesitation.

She looked at the two poor children in front of her, and secretly decided to find some food from the space at night to feed them some nourishment.

In this family, there are only three children sitting on a small table. They are as thin as firewood sticks. Their big eyes are particularly eye-catching under their sallow hair, and the signs of malnutrition are obvious at a glance.

In comparison, the eldest son Zhao Qingshui and his own son Zhao Qingyun, although not fat, have normal body shapes and obviously get enough nutrition.

Zhao Xiaojuan was plump and cute, forming a sharp contrast with the skinny children.

Qian Chunhua herself was so thin that she looked like a bag of bones, with no trace of energy at all.

Qian Chunhua couldn't help but wonder why this family lived such a difficult life, yet they still felt so happy.

There must be something fishy here. The seemingly harmonious family may just be their own wishful thinking.

Qian Chunhua decided to wait and see what happened, and not take out the supplies in the space to share for the time being.

At most, she secretly gave some nutritional supplements to the children, hoping to improve their physical condition without attracting attention.

Zhao Daqing finally finished smoking his cigarette. Qian Chunhua felt that the smell of cigarettes in the room had dissipated a lot, so she carefully put Zhao Qingfeng down.

"Xiaoling, can you take your brother back to our room to rest?" Qian Chunhua squatted down and asked his daughter with a smile.

Her tone was gentle, full of motherly love.

"Oh, mother." Zhao Xiaoling agreed excitedly.

She is already six years old. Not only has she become sensible, but she can also help with things within her ability.

In the past, whenever her mother asked her to do something, she would always order her in a stern tone, but today, her mother's attitude was so gentle, which made her feel very happy.

Zhao Xiaoling held her brother's hand and happily walked into the west wing of her house.

The Zhao family's residence is a spacious courtyard with a main house in the middle and east and west wing rooms on both sides.

There are open spaces in front and back of the yard. The backyard is full of vegetables and there is a clear well.

The main house is the bedroom of Zhao Daqing and his mother, and the small house next to it is for Zhao Yongwen to live in when he occasionally returns home.

The eldest brother's family lived in the east wing, while Qian Chunhua and the children lived in the west wing.

Although the layout of this courtyard is not complicated, the blue brick and large tile buildings are among the best in the village, even the village chief's house cannot compare with it.

All these superior conditions were built with the money Zhao Yongcai earned from escorting goods.

Qian Chunhua walked into the main room. Although the smell of cigarette smoke had dissipated a lot, she still held her breath out of unfamiliarity.

For the rest of the family, the smell of smoke has become commonplace.

She knew that smoking a cigarette after meals was Zhao Daqing's habit for many years and it could not be easily changed.

Qian Chunhua sighed softly in his heart.

If she wasn't afraid that her abnormal behavior would arouse her family's suspicion, she really wanted Mr. Zhao to stay away from his family when he smoked.

However, she could only put this idea in her heart for the time being.
