"The child is ignorant, Xiaofeng, why are you so naughty?" Wang Hongyu was extremely embarrassed. Her daughter was at the age where she could imitate what she heard. Just now, Zhou Xiaoyun kept calling her a "bitch," and the child had overheard it.
Ling Dapeng glared at Zhou Xiaoyun resentfully. Wasn't this deliberately setting a bad example for the children?
"Ha!" Zhou Xiaoyun scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“Dapeng, look, Mother asked us to bring these over,” Ling Dahu said, trying to smooth things over. “I told you, Mother cares about you.”
“Dapeng, I’ve already told Xiaoyun that your father is going to fight in the war. Zhi’er is being taken care of at the General’s Mansion, so you don’t need to worry too much.”
"Brother, sister-in-law, you're so kind." Ling Dapeng looked at Ling Dahu, Wang Hongyu, and their two children, and his heart ached. He also missed his son.
"Brother, sister-in-law, please go back and talk to Mother. Let me go back to the city to recuperate. I won't bother those two who are always together. I have people at home too, right? Cao'er and Aunt Liu are living in our house. It makes me feel uncomfortable!"
Zhou Xiaoyun glanced sideways at Shishi and Ling Dapeng, and said as if she didn't care.
"Xiaoyun, don't say that. I also want to spend more time by your side, but you just can't!" Ling Dapeng muttered.
"Ling Dapeng, you're always exchanging glances with her, do you think I can't see it?" Zhou Xiaoyun immediately exploded. "Don't you get tired of being so close to her, and you still come to keep me company? Don't you feel uncomfortable?"
"Sister..." Shishi said softly, "I know you've misunderstood me too much, but I really am your sister!"
Ling Dahu and Wang Hongyu watched Zhou Xiaoyun start arguing again, feeling quite helpless. How could they possibly live like this?
“Xiaoyun, it’s not easy for us to come all this way to the manor. Since you’re so eager to go back to the capital, we’ll go back and ask your mother right now,” Wang Hongyu interrupted.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Xiaoyun nodded vigorously and immediately urged, "Alright, brother, sister-in-law, you should go back now."
Ling Dapeng opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but he was afraid that Zhou Xiaoyun would say something embarrassing again.
"Brother, sister-in-law, let me see you out," Ling Dapeng said helplessly. "You've made a fool of yourselves by making such a scene."
Wang Hongyu told the two children to say goodbye to Zhou Xiaoyun, but when she saw Shishi, she deliberately ignored her, as Shishi was always a restless girl.
"Since you're already here, why don't you get something to eat at the manor?" Li Fu suggested when he saw Ling Dahu and the others come out and seem about to leave immediately.
Qian Feng had been waiting outside, and his eyes lit up immediately when he heard about food.
"Eat, eat your fill and go back. It's a long way. If you don't eat or drink, you'll be starving when you get back."
Ling Dahu thought about it and agreed, then turned to look at Wang Hongyu.
"Ling Dapeng, Ling Dapeng!" Zhou Xiaoyun called out from inside the room as soon as Wang Hongyu responded.
Ling Dapeng could only say goodbye to his elder brother and sister-in-law before turning back into the house, looking very impatient.
"These two, arguing like this every day, even the best relationship can't be destroyed by arguing," Li Fu said unsurprised. "Come on, come on, there's no shortage of food in the manor."
Ling Dahu and Wang Hongyu looked back, feeling truly helpless. All the way from Lingjia Village, they had seen Zhou Xiaoyun and Ling Dapeng's relationship as sweet as honey, but now it had turned out like this.
After filling their stomachs in the village, Qian Feng took Ling Dahu's family back to the city.
Tao Wanniang had to wait at the restaurant until the evening market ended before returning, so Wang Hongyu and Ling Dahu decided to wait until the next morning to discuss Ling Dapeng and Zhou Xiaoyun's matter.
"Come back to have children?" The next morning, after hearing what Wang Hongyu said, Tao Wanniang thought for a moment and asked a few more questions.
"How is she doing now? When I last went there, she had gained weight. What is she like now?"
"Xiaoyun said that Shishi makes her angry every day and even hurt her back. Xiaoyun is a completely different person now. Mother, why don't we let Xiaoyun come back? There are still two people at her home who can take care of her, aren't there?"
Judging from Wang Hongyu's words, Zhou Xiaoyun is having a rather uncomfortable time over there.
"Then let her come back, but I can't make that decision myself. You can talk to Lingyunzhou yourselves." Tao Wanniang replied casually, "Let them send someone to pick her up. She's heavily pregnant, so be careful."
Tao Wan's mother's relent touched Wang Hongyu's heart, making her feel even more that her mother-in-law was a good person, and that Zhou Xiaoyun had been too ungrateful before.
Wang Hongyu asked Ling Dahu to go to the General's Mansion during his lunch break to talk to Ling Yunzhou. She wanted to talk to Zhou Xiaoyun, her sister-in-law, and not want to see Zhou Xiaoyun having such a hard time while heavily pregnant.
With Ling Yunzhou about to embark on his expedition, upon hearing what Ling Dahu said, he immediately asked, "Did your mother agree?"
"Of course I agree, otherwise I wouldn't have been sent on this trip," Ling Dahu replied. "Father, you should send a carriage instead. Mother said to be careful with her big belly."
"Dahu, would you like to move into the General's Mansion?" Ling Yunzhou pondered for a moment before asking, "Look how grand and lively my General's Mansion is. Your children will have dedicated caretakers, and when they grow up, they will be taught by tutors and martial arts masters. They will all grow up to be outstanding individuals. Dahu, wouldn't you like that kind of life?"
Ling Dahu had a headache. Wasn't this exactly what Qian Feng had mentioned to him on the way?
"Father, if you want to reconcile with Mother, you should do it yourself. I don't have the guts to interfere in Mother's affairs," Ling Dahu said bluntly. "Besides, no one will scheme against Mother. She's very capable!"
“This is the capital, a place where all sorts of people mingle. Do you think it’s still the same old thugs from Lingjia Village?” Ling Yunzhou said seriously. “In short, you, as his son, need to be more careful. If your mother remarries, it won’t do you any good. But if your mother reconciles with me, you will be half the masters of this General’s Mansion!”
Ling Dahu shook his head again. He had seen too much of Tao Wanniang's shrewishness and sharp tongue since he was a child, and he dared not interfere in Tao Wanniang's affairs.
"You really are..." Ling Yunzhou felt a bit hurt inside. This son wasn't close to him, but he couldn't force him to be.
"Alright, alright, you can go. I'll have someone bring Zhou Shi back," Ling Yunzhou said.
Ling Dahu left immediately; he didn't care about these things. It was obvious that his mother didn't want to continue her relationship with his father.
Zhou Xiaoyun eventually returned lying down. When she knocked on her own door, Cao'er and Aunt Liu were both startled to see that Zhou Xiaoyun had gained weight again.
"What are you standing there for? Help me inside!" Zhou Xiaoyun said, gasping for breath; her back was still aching.
"Madam, are you alone?" Liu Ma asked, glancing around a bit more as she watched the carriage driver hand them the things.
"Me? Don't even look. My room is cleaned every day. I need to lie down," Zhou Xiaoyun said, supporting her back. She was finally back. Once she gave birth and was fully recovered, she would tear that woman apart!
"Madam, you've gotten so fat, you look like a pig that's eaten pig feed," Cao'er said, supporting Zhou Xiaoyun. "Shouldn't we call a doctor to take a look?"
