Chapter 139 Arrival in the Port City

Lin Hu nodded to Lin Li, still clutching his clothes nervously.

As the plane taxied, Lin Yao lifted a corner of the sunshade.

The runway outside the window gradually receded into the distance, and on the snow-covered tarmac, several ground crew members wrapped in military overcoats waved.

With a slight feeling of weightlessness, the plane took off.

Lin Hu covered his eyes in fright, but Lin Yao clung to the window and refused to let go.

Lin Li smiled as she watched her grandsons' completely different reactions.

The clouds stretched out in a white blanket beneath the wings.

Lin Li pointed to the scenery outside the window and asked with a light laugh.

"Yaoyao, look, doesn't it look like a cotton field down there?"

"picture!"

Lin Yao's eyes never left the window from the moment the plane took off.

When the lunch cart came over, Lin Li skillfully ordered four servings of rice.

When the flight attendant asked if she wanted coffee, she waved her hand.

"Just give me a cup of hot tea. I couldn't sleep at night after drinking that stuff last time."

She ate her vegetables while talking to the two little ones.

"The roast goose in Hong Kong is delicious, but don't overindulge. Last time I ate too much and got an upset stomach, which made me miss going to Ocean Park."

"Grandma, are all the animals in Ocean Park from the sea?"

"Grandma has never been there either, let's go see it together sometime."

"good!"

Lin Hu and Lin Yao each held a chicken leg in one hand and drank juice in the other.

His lips were greasy, and he had a smile on his face.

The plane bounced a few times as it passed through the clouds, and Lin Yao burst into tears.

Lin Li hugged her grandson and gently patted his back.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, the clouds are just saying hello to us."

She looked out the window, and the coastline peeking through the gaps in the clouds became increasingly clear.

The distant sea shimmered, like a handful of scattered gold.

"We're almost there."

Lin Li took out a comb to tidy the children's hair and then made Lin Laosan turn up his collar.

"When you get off the plane, you'll go through customs. Don't be nervous when they ask you questions, just tell the truth."

She took out throat lozenges from her handbag and gave one to each person.

"Hold it in your mouth to moisten your throat when you speak."

As the plane began its descent, Lin Li pointed to the buildings that were getting closer and closer outside the window.

"See those red roofs? That's Kowloon. We're going to land at Kai Tak Airport. The runway is built right on the coast. You'll see ships going under the wings soon."

Her tone was reassuring, which eased the mood of the three of them considerably.

Sparse applause rang out in the cabin as the plane's wheels made a slight vibration upon touching the ground.

Lin Li was tidying up her things, carefully folding the used tissues and putting them into a plastic bag.

Lin Laosan and the two children watched Lin Li's movements and began to imitate them.

After they had packed their things, the gangway was slowly lowered, and a salty, damp wind rushed into the cabin.

Lin Li took a deep breath, stood up, and looked at her son and grandson following behind her.

Lin Laosan was clumsily helping Hu Zi zip up his coat, while Yao Yao curiously gazed at the tower crane in the distance.

The group followed the flow of people off the plane and arrived at the customs hall.

The ceiling fans in the customs hall spun slowly as Lin Li expertly handed her pass to a uniformed customs officer.

When the other party asked about her itinerary in Cantonese, she answered fluently.

Lin Laosan and the two little ones also successfully passed the test.

While collecting his luggage, Lin Laosan stared blankly at the suitcases spinning on the conveyor belt.

Lin Li walked straight to a canvas bag with a phoenix pattern and picked it up.

“This is ours; I tied a red string to the handle.”

She brushed the dust off her bag with a natural motion.

As I walked out of the airport terminal, Awei, dressed in a suit, was already waiting for me.

Upon seeing Lin Li, he quickly approached her: "Dr. Lin, you've finally arrived!"

"It was a little slow getting through customs, but it was still a smooth process."

"I hope everything goes smoothly."

Awei was about to take the suitcase from Lin Laosan when he politely declined.

"It's alright, I can carry this."

Lin Laosan wore a smile on his face, but secretly he was scheming in his heart.

We can't let him know how light their family's suitcases are, or we'll give ourselves away.

Awei didn't insist, he just smiled.

I led them to the arrival hall and opened the door of the waiting van.

"Dr. Lin, let me take you home."

"OK, thanks!"

After Lin Li had Lin Laosan put the suitcase in the trunk, she let the two little ones get in the car first, and then she got in herself.

After Lin Laosan and Awei were seated, the car door was closed.

The driver stepped on the gas and drove towards their villa in the port city.

Throughout the journey, Lin Yao and Lin Hu clung to the car window, refusing to blink.

Lin Li watched the street scenes rushing past the window, and the smiles on her grandsons' faces never faded.

"Grandma, how much longer until we arrive?"

Lin Li looked at the scenery outside the window and smiled.

"There will be a while."

After hearing this, the two children immediately turned their gaze to the window and began to discuss it in hushed tones.

"Brother Tiger, look at that building, it's so tall. I've never seen such a tall building before."

"Yes, that building is very tall too!"

"Yes, there are so many tall buildings! They're exactly the same as what I see on TV."

"It's in my textbook too!"

...

The two little ones kept looking out the window and pointing, which made Lin Laosan excited as well.

"Mom, Hong Kong is so beautiful, it looks exactly like the one in the movies."

"Yes, our hometown will be just as beautiful in the future."

Lin Li gently echoed.
