Chapter Sixty-Nine: Lying

Qi Yanjue glanced at Song Yueying subconsciously, his expression a mix of helplessness and something else entirely.

Seeing that he didn't deny it, Zhao Yiheng thought he had guessed correctly and angrily cursed Qi Yanjue, "Qi Yanjue, did these two injuries damage your brain too?"

"Even if that person came to assassinate you, it would be a mistake to attack him without concrete evidence."

"Where is your composure? Where is your calm and wisdom? Why did you make such a basic mistake? As a soldier, have you forgotten the ironclad rule that you must not lay a hand on the people?"

"As long as he tells the police that you hit him, and submits that statement, your future will be ruined."

"If I had known you were so impatient, I wouldn't have gone to see that person for you."

He's absolutely regretting it now.

Qi Yanjue felt utterly wronged after being inexplicably scolded by his friend.

"I didn't hit him." Qi Yanjue glanced at Song Yueying again and said nonsense with a straight face, "The sound you heard was that person falling off the hospital bed and hitting his left arm."

Song Yueying originally wanted to stand by the window for a while and not join in their conversation.

Hearing Zhao Yiheng scold Qi Yanjue, she felt somewhat guilty. Before she could say that she was the one who kicked the person, she heard Qi Yanjue's words again, and she stopped in her tracks, looking at him in astonishment.

He...he actually lied?

How could someone as upright, calm, and reserved as Qi Yanjue lie?

Zhao Yiheng knew that the man had lost his left hand, and after hearing Qi Yanjue say this, he had no doubts at all.

"Why didn't you say so sooner?" Zhao Yiheng coughed awkwardly and complained, "You didn't lay a hand on him, you should have said so earlier! If you had, I wouldn't have scolded you."

"Did you give me a chance to speak?" Qi Yanjue rolled his eyes at him.

“I…” Zhao Yiheng knew he was in the wrong.

At that moment, he never imagined that the person who made the move would be Song Yueying. Mainly because Song Yueying's thin and weak figure was very deceptive.

He never imagined that his friend would lie to help Song Yueying cover up the truth.

Not wanting to argue any further, Zhao Yiheng simply changed the subject, "You asked Chen Guangyao to come see you, is there some plan? Just tell me what you need me to do."

"There are no plans yet," Qi Yanjue replied. "But don't worry, when I need you, I definitely won't let you sit idle."

Zhao Yiheng was speechless. He looked at Luo Ming on the hospital bed and asked Qi Yanjue, "Do you think Luo Ming found out something that led to his death?"

"It must be, otherwise those people wouldn't have resorted to such desperate measures." Qi Yanjue nodded. "It's just a pity that when Chen Guangyao and I arrived, Luo Ming was already seriously injured and unconscious."

“I saw it very clearly; those people were after Luo Ming’s life.”

"Then guess what Luo Ming found out?" Zhao Yiheng was somewhat looking forward to Luo Ming waking up soon.

"We'll know as soon as Luo Ming wakes up and we ask him." Qi Yanjue glanced at Zhao Yiheng; he was too lazy to guess and wasted his time.

Listening to their conversation, Song Yueying's heart pounded. She asked them both questions, and their answers were consistent. She was certain that the small sphere she had made still had the same medicinal effect.

Qi Yanjue remembered some things that happened after she crushed the small ball, which must have been an exception.

It's possible that when she first used the gas weapon to save him, she gave him an antidote. The second time she used the gas weapon, again in the pouring rain, the antidote's effectiveness was diminished.

However, everything that has been done will always leave some trace, and she was a little worried that Luo Ming would find out something.

Song Yueying's worries were completely relieved after Luo Ming woke up and recounted what he had found out.

After listening to Luo Ming's report, Qi Yanjue stroked his chin and pondered for a while before saying to Luo Ming, "Those people have their eyes on you. If they know you haven't been silenced, they will definitely launch another assassination attempt against you."

"You should stay in the hospital and recover for the next two days. Don't even leave your room."

"Yes." Luo Ming replied, then said with great regret, "It's a pity that I couldn't find out where those iron rods and axes you mentioned, Captain."

Qi Yanjue smiled and comforted him, "The whereabouts of those things might be our breakthrough. It won't be easy to find out, so you don't need to feel sorry."

Hearing them talk about where those things went again, Song Yueying's heart was filled with unease.

"Comrade Song," Zhao Yiheng suddenly looked at Song Yueying, "you and Yan Jue were attacked by those people. Before you lost consciousness, did you see anything strange?"

Song Yueying told them that Qi Yanjue blocked the axe that was about to strike her and told her to run away, but she lost consciousness before she could run.

When she woke up again, all those people were lying on the ground. She ignored them and only focused on taking Qi Yanjue to the hospital.

Faced with Zhao Yiheng's question, Song Yueying frowned and thought for a moment, then shook her head and said, "No, I didn't see anything strange happen."

“I woke up and found myself lying next to him. I made sure he was still breathing, so I took him to the hospital.”

"You didn't..." Zhao Yiheng wanted to ask something, but Qi Yanjue interrupted him, "Alright, I can't even remember it, what do you expect her to remember?"

Qi Yanjue glanced at Zhao Yiheng and then took Song Yueying's hand.

“Those things are in the past, so don’t think about them anymore.” He knew she was hiding something, but she wouldn’t say what it was, and he couldn’t bear to force her to.

He couldn't bear to force her, so naturally he wouldn't allow Zhao Yiheng to force her either.

Seeing Qi Yanjue so protective of Song Yueying, Zhao Yiheng had no objections, after all, they were husband and wife. But he still had to say, "This matter is suspicious in every way; we must investigate..."

"Of course we need to investigate, and we need to investigate thoroughly and completely." Qi Yanjue interrupted Zhao Yiheng again. "When Chen Guangyao comes back, remember to have him come to the ward next door."

After saying that, Qi Yanjue took Song Yueying's hand and walked out of Luo Ming's ward.

Looking at the closed ward door, Zhao Yiheng complained to Luo Ming in exasperation, "Look at him, look at him! I just asked one question, and he's protecting me like this."

"Your sister-in-law is so kind and beautiful, of course the captain has to protect her," Luo Ming said with envy.

"You're envious! Envy is useless, you don't have Qi Yanjue's luck." Zhao Yiheng rolled his eyes at him, annoyed.

Luo Ming immediately deflated and didn't want to talk to him anymore.

On the other side.

Back in the next ward, Qi Yanjue let Song Yueying sit on the bed to rest.

"I took a nap before lunch, and now I can't sleep," Song Yueying said, shaking her head. "Since I've come all the way to the county, I want to go out and buy some things."

"I'll go with you." Qi Yanjue didn't want to restrict her freedom, but he was also worried about letting her go out alone.

“You’re seriously injured right now. If you come with me to go shopping, you’ll give yourself away,” Song Yueying reminded her, then assured her, “Don’t worry, I won’t wander off.”

"I'll go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some food, and then I'll go to the traditional Chinese medicine shop to buy some medicinal herbs, and then I'll come back."

Seeing that she was willing to tell him her whereabouts, Qi Yanjue no longer insisted on accompanying her. He compromised and said, "I'll have Zhou Feng go with you; he can help you carry the things you bought."

Song Yueying initially wanted to refuse, but then she thought that if she refused again, he might just send Chen Guangyao with her instead. In any case, he couldn't possibly let her go alone.

So he nodded in agreement.

"Good girl." She readily agreed, and Qi Yanjue was satisfied. He sat down next to her and placed his large hand on her head.

Her hair was very soft, smooth as silk to the touch. Looking at her pert nose and long eyelashes like two small fans, fluttering like feathers brushing against his heart.

Qi Yanjue's throat bobbed a few times, and a surge of heat rose from the depths of his heart. He took a deep breath, and a faint fragrance seemed to waft from Song Yueying's body.

The faint scent lingered around his nose, making him feel even more strongly...

"Moon Shadow." He called her name unconsciously.

"Mmm." Song Yueying looked up at him, her smooth hair brushing against his chin. The moment their lips touched, their breaths mingled, and they both froze.

No one expected such an accident to happen.

Qi Yanjue was the first to react, reaching out to grasp Song Yueying's slender waist. He wanted to take more, but was afraid she would think he was the kind of person who would do something reckless.

I'm really torn.

He held her captive in his arms, his lips burning hot against her skin. Song Yueying felt her mind suddenly shut down. She couldn't think, nor could she react.

Perhaps because she was too shocked, she stared at him with wide eyes.

Reason prevailed over instinct, and Qi Yanjue released Song Yueying after a few kisses. However, he didn't retract his hands, which were still bound around her waist.

Looking down at her, I saw her bright, clear eyes, now filled with confusion, like a fawn caught in a hunter's trap, unsure of what lay ahead.

Her eyes were wet, both innocent and naive. Qi Yanjue felt as if a string in his mind had snapped. He cupped the back of her head with one hand and instinctively wanted to kiss her again.

Just as she was about to move, a knock sounded at the door, and Song Yueying's previously frozen mind instantly started working again. Startled to see Junyan standing so close, she pushed him away.

She jumped up, took several steps back, and pointed at Qi Yanjue, "You...you...you..."

"What's wrong with me?" Seeing her intense reaction, Qi Yanjue found it adorable and wanted to tease her. "We are a legally married couple with a marriage certificate."

"It's normal to do intimate things when no one else is around."

His intention was to tease her, but it wasn't entirely about teasing her; he genuinely wanted to get close to her and do something with her...

"Normal my foot! We agreed to get a divorce," Song Yueying retorted instinctively.

Qi Yanjue narrowed his eyes, stood up, walked to her, and placed his large hands on her shoulders. His eyes locked onto hers, and he asked in a deep voice, "Are you still thinking about divorcing me?"

"What do you mean I'm still thinking about divorcing you!" Song Yueying didn't know why he suddenly acted up, but she still corrected him, "We clearly agreed to divorce."

Qi Yanjue said, "I told you I didn't want to divorce you."

"When did you say that?" Song Yueying asked with a puzzled look.

"I..." Qi Yanjue had just opened his mouth when the knocking sounded again. He sighed and said, "We'll talk about this later. Chen Guangyao and Zhou Feng should be here."

Song Yueying had no objection; she didn't want her private affairs to be overheard by others.

However, she still couldn't help but wonder when Qi Yanjue had ever told her that he didn't want a divorce.

He led Song Yueying to sit down by the hospital bed, while he stood beside her. Qi Yanjue said "Come in" in a very displeased tone.

Chen Guangyao and Zhou Feng opened the door and walked in. Zhou Feng said, "Captain, I've brought Chen Guangyao for you."

"Captain," Chen Guangyao called out, and seeing Song Yueying sitting by the hospital bed, he greeted her familiarly, "Sister-in-law."

Song Yueying stood up and nodded to him.

"Wait a moment, I have something to tell him first." After Qi Yanjue finished speaking, he looked at Zhou Feng and said, "Your sister-in-law is going out to buy some things, go and get them for her."

"Yes, I guarantee I will complete the mission." Zhou Feng stood up straight and saluted.

Carrying her things was her duty, and Song Yueying frowned as she looked at Qi Yanjue, somewhat regretting agreeing to let Zhou Feng accompany her.

Qi Yanjue coughed awkwardly and said, "Zhou Feng, this isn't a mission, it's a request."

"Yes," Zhou Feng replied again.

This left Qi Yanjue speechless. He had originally wanted to give Zhou Feng a few instructions, but in the end, he decided against it. He only told Song Yueying, "It's dangerous outside. Come back as soon as you've finished shopping."

"Understood." With that, Song Yueying walked towards the door.

Qi Yanjue gave Zhou Feng a wink, and Zhou Feng nodded in understanding before following Song Yueying.

Only Chen Guangyao and his team leader remained in the ward. Looking at his team leader's expression, Chen Guangyao sensed that he wished he could go out with his sister-in-law.

Come to think of it, if he had a wife as beautiful as his sister-in-law, he would want to be with her every day, preferably inseparable from her.

"Captain, don't worry. Although Zhou Feng is a bit unreliable, he is capable of carrying out missions. He will definitely protect your sister-in-law." Chen Guangyao spoke up for Zhou Feng.

How could even he think that sending Zhou Feng out with Yueying was a mission? Qi Yanjue frowned and glanced at Chen Guangyao. Forget it, worrying about this is a waste of time.

"Let's go talk in the next ward," Qi Yanjue said, and walked out first.

Chen Guangyao followed behind him.

In the next ward.

When Zhao Yiheng saw that only Qi Yanjue and Chen Guangyao came in, and Zhou Feng was not there, he asked, "Where's Zhou Feng? Where did that kid go to find food again?"

"I had him go out shopping with Yueying," Qi Yanjue replied, walking to the middle of the ward and standing there. His gaze swept over the three faces. "With our firepower diverted, things are much easier over there."

"But we also paid a price. We can't always be on the defensive. It's time to fight back."

Next, Qi Yanjue issued one order after another, and the group split up to carry out their tasks.

Luo Ming's task is to recover from his injuries and provide technical support when necessary, which means helping teammates who need to disguise themselves.

As soon as Qi Yanjue stepped out of the ward, he saw Zhou Feng returning carrying a pile of things. Looking around, he noticed that the people who were supposed to be with him were not there.

"Where is she?" Qi Yanjue asked, frowning, praying in his heart that it wasn't what he was thinking.

Zhou Feng relayed Song Yueying's words with a smile, "My sister-in-law said that she accidentally bought a bit too much stuff. She asked me to return the things first, and she will go to the pharmacy to buy some herbs and then come back."

Qi Yanjue suppressed his anger and asked in a deep voice, "You let her go to the pharmacy alone?"
