Chapter Twenty-Eight: He's Your Man (tushumi.cc)

"Little Shadow, I've brought you the water." When Song's mother returned with the basin of water and saw the injuries on Qi Yanjue's body, she almost dropped the basin.

"How...how come he has so many injuries?"

"Don't worry, it will be fine soon," Song Yueying assured her, gesturing for her mother to place the basin of water beside her.

Song's mother did as she was told, and then squatted down next to Song Yueying to watch her clean Qi Yanjue's wounds.

Her daughter said that Xiao Qi's injury would heal, so she stopped worrying and even had the mood to praise her daughter.

"My little shadow is so amazing." After saying that, Song's mother's expression stiffened, and she looked at Song Yueying cautiously. She had forgotten that the little shadow didn't like her saying "my little shadow."

Seeing that her daughter neither scolded nor intended to hit her, Song's mother finally felt relieved. The next moment, seeing her daughter's actions, her heart jumped again.

Her daughter... actually reached out to undo the man's belt.

"Little Shadow, no, you can't!" Song's mother gripped Song Yueying's hands tightly, this time being extremely insistent, refusing to agree to her daughter's request...

Oh dear! She was too embarrassed to say it.

Song Yueying blinked in confusion, glancing at her mother and then at Qi Yanjue lying on the ground. Reflecting on her own actions, she understood.

She explained, "Please don't misunderstand, I just wanted to check if the wound on his leg had reopened."

"No, you can't even look at the wound." Song's mother shook her head firmly.

Song Yueying had no choice but to compromise, "Okay, okay, I won't watch anymore. Please let go of my hand, or he will really die."

"You promise you won't take his pants off again..." Song's mother couldn't bring herself to say the words.

"I promise I won't," Song Yueying solemnly promised. Only then did her mother release her hand, adding, "You promised, you can't lie to me."

Song Yueying nodded. Since she couldn't do anything about Song's mother, she had no choice but to rely on her memory and roll up Qi Yanjue's trouser leg to check.

As she expected, the wound on Qi Yanjue's calf also reopened.

Looking at the blood-stained gauze, Song's mother frowned and couldn't help but sigh, "What did he do to deserve this? Injuring him so badly, does he not want him to live?"

“Yes, they came here to kill him,” Song Yueying agreed while tending to her wounds.

After treating the wound, Song Yueying got up and went inside to get a bed sheet. She wrapped Qi Yanjue in it, and then the mother and daughter worked together to carry him into the room and put him on the bed.

The mother and daughter also had a brief discussion about whose room to put Qi Yanjue in.

Song Yueying suggested putting it in her mother's room because Qi Yanjue was her son. Song's mother insisted on putting it in her daughter's room, without giving a reason; she just wanted it there.

As a result, Song's mother won.

After settling Qi Yanjue in, Song Yueying instructed her mother to fetch a medicine box from the main room, and then quickly fed Qi Yanjue a blue pill.

When Song's mother returned with the first-aid kit, Song Yueying took it but didn't open it immediately. Instead, she asked her mother, "Mom, you're acting strangely today. Before, if any man got close to me, you would chase him away with a stick."

"Even if he's your son, he's still a man! Why do you insist on putting him in my room?"

“He’s your man, of course you should keep him in your room!” Song’s mother replied matter-of-factly.

Song Yueying still didn't understand what it meant.

Then Song's mother remembered something else, and a look of unease appeared on her face. She thought to herself, "Oh no, oh no, I was so focused on insisting that I forgot my daughter is the one who makes the decisions at home."

"Little...Little Shadow, I didn't mean it, please don't be angry, okay?" Song's mother lowered her head and admitted her mistake.

In any case, it's always right to apologize first.

When Song Yueying saw the anxious look on her mother's face, she knew that she was reminded of the original owner's wicked behavior in the past.

It seems she'll have to bear the blame for the original owner for a while longer. Song Yueying sighed helplessly and said, "I'm not angry, you don't need to be nervous, and you don't need to apologize right away."

Hearing her daughter say she wasn't angry, Song's mother smiled with relief.

"Alright, let him rest in this room. We'll go out," Song Yueying said to her mother.

"Okay!" Song's mother replied, and the mother and daughter went into the main room together. Song's mother asked, "Little Shadow, are you still going to the mountain to collect herbs?"

Song Yueying shook her head. "No, it just rained heavily, the roads are difficult to travel, and there's water everywhere in the mountains. I'll stay inside and organize the herbs. If you're bored, you can go out and play."

“I won’t go out; I’ll stay home with you,” Song’s mother said.

Song Yueying remained noncommittal. The mother and daughter spent the afternoon tidying up herbs in the house with the door closed, and went to bed early that night.

The next day, early morning.

Song Yueying opened her eyes, stared at the tiled roof, and remained stunned for a while before accepting reality.

She time-traveled; the day before yesterday, she traveled to this era where people were starving and freezing.

"Little Shadow, you're awake?" Song's mother, who was sleeping beside her, also woke up and said happily, "Sleep a little longer, I'll go make something to eat, and I'll call you when it's ready."

My daughter slept with her last night, and she was very happy.

"I'm not going to sleep anymore, I'm going to see you... that comrade." Song Yueying originally wanted to say "I'm going to see your son," but she changed it to "comrade" instead.

Song's mother didn't remember that Qi Yanjue was her son, so she could only go along with her.

Upon hearing her daughter say she wanted to visit Xiao Qi, Song's mother immediately nodded and said, "Yes, yes, you should go see him. We haven't visited him since we left him in your room yesterday."

"A whole night has passed, and we still don't know if he's dead or alive."

Is it possible for a mother to say something like, "I don't know if he's dead or alive"? Thinking of her mother's mental instability, Song Yueying felt it was perfectly normal.

However, after taking her pills, that cheap brother must still be alive.

"Don't worry, he's definitely still alive." Song Yueying looked at her mother with a complicated expression.

"Did I...did I say something wrong?" Song's mother felt flustered under her gaze.

Song Yueying shook her head. "No, you didn't say anything wrong."

"That's good." Reassured that her daughter hadn't said anything wrong, Song's mother smiled and suggested, "Why don't you continue sleeping, Little Shadow? I'll go check on him."

“You won’t be able to see anything if you go to see him,” Song Yueying said tactfully. “I’m the village doctor, and I’m going to check his injuries.”

“You saw how bad his injuries were when I cleaned his wounds yesterday, didn’t you?”

Thinking of Qi Yanjue's new and old wounds, Song Yueying could imagine the fierce battles he had gone through.

In the past, some people risked their lives to protect her; some were slightly injured, some were seriously injured, and some even lost their lives.

No matter how severe the injury, as long as she was still breathing, the medicine she developed could cure her.

She lost her life, and there was nothing she could do about it, so she didn't dare to go out for a long time.

"Yes, yes, I saw him. Go see him, I'll go get something to eat." Song's mother nimbly got out of bed and tugged at her wrinkled clothes.

He turned back and smiled at Song Yueying, then opened the door and walked out.
