Chapter Ninety-Nine: Restless Sleeper

Moonlight shone into the dimly lit room.

On the wooden frame bed placed against the wall, Qi Yanjue lay flat on the outside, not daring to move, his eyes fixed on the ceiling, trying to ignore the warm breath on his neck...

And her slender arms lying across her chest.

Why did it turn out like this? Qi Yanjue still can't figure it out. He only remembers that after seeing Wang Laicai's miserable state and returning to the house, he blew out the kerosene lamp, turned around, and saw her climb into the bed.

Just like last night, I fell asleep as soon as I lay down.

"He slept so peacefully last night, but he's so restless today." With a sigh, Qi Yanjue put the arm that was on his chest back down and moved his body away.

However, less than a minute after he put her arm back, it reached out again. He put it back again, and she reached it out again, repeating this several times.

Qi Yanjue was speechless. What to do? He needed to sleep too?

Sigh! I never expected this little woman to be such a handful even when she's asleep. Qi Yanjue put her arm back down and held it firmly.

While asleep, Song Yueying felt her arm being suppressed by an invisible force. She tried to move her arm, but found that she couldn't move it at all.

Even with her arms restrained, she was still fidgeting. Qi Yanjue had no choice but to cover her completely to subdue her.

After their struggle, both of them were sweating. Qi Yanjue had excellent eyesight and could see in the dark. Seeing the fine beads of sweat on the woman's forehead, his Adam's apple bobbed.

He quickly calmed himself down and considered whether or not to wake her up.

Wake her up, and she should behave.

Before Qi Yanjue could decide whether to wake her, Song Yueying opened her eyes on her own. Looking at the handsome face hovering above her, she blinked in confusion.

"Qi Yanjue." Song Yueying called out to him subconsciously, recognizing his familiar aura and scent. Even though she was still a little groggy from just waking up, she could still tell who he was.

Seeing that she was awake, Qi Yanjue breathed a sigh of relief, "You're finally awake."

"Stop fooling around, I want to sleep." Seeing Qi Yanjue, Song Yueying closed her eyes reassuringly. About a minute later, she suddenly opened her eyes, "Qi Yanjue."

Before Qi Yanjue could make a move, Song Yueying pushed him aside forcefully.

Song Yueying sat up, and this time her gaze was no longer confused, but filled with murderous intent. "No wonder I could feel something suppressing me even when I was asleep."

"So it was you."

"You did this to me while I was asleep, you, you, you..."

"Qi Yanjue, are you that thirsty?"

"I didn't," Qi Yanjue denied, then simply lay down.

"They've all been on top of me, and you still say you didn't." Song Yueying didn't believe him at all.

Although they reached a consensus and decided to spend their lives together, they weren't very familiar with each other, and she still found it hard to accept doing *that* right now.

"I really want to do something with you, but unfortunately we haven't had our wedding banquet yet," Qi Yanjue explained. "I'm holding you back because you've been making moves all along."

“Especially your arm, it’s always on my chest. I put it back, and then you put it back on me.”

"I had no choice but to hold your arm down with my hand, but as soon as I did, you started struggling again..."

Qi Yanjue couldn't bring himself to say the rest, so he skipped over it, saying, "In the end, this is what you see when you wake up."

"Really?" Song Yueying looked at him skeptically.

"Really." Despite being doubted, Qi Yanjue wasn't angry at all. He reminded her, "You can see for yourself if you don't believe me. If I really did something to you, how could your clothes still be intact?"

Song Yueying looked down at her clothes and saw that she was indeed dressed properly.

It seems I misunderstood him.

Oh dear, she actually did something so embarrassing while she was asleep!

However, she can't be blamed entirely. Anyone who woke up and faced that situation would have reacted the same way. So, ultimately, it's Qi Yanjue's fault.

Song Yueying lay back down, thought for a moment, and still felt she had to say something to herself, "If I'm asleep and my hands are wandering, you could have easily woken me up!"

"Yes, you're right. I should have woken you up." Knowing that she was trying to make amends for herself, Qi Yanjue didn't expose her little scheme and instead agreed with her.

His words made Song Yueying feel a little guilty.

"It's getting late, go back to sleep." With that, Qi Yanjue closed his eyes...

"Okay," Song Yueying replied softly. To avoid doing anything even more embarrassing while she was asleep, she turned her back to the wall and slept facing away from it.

Qi Yanjue opened his eyes, turned his head to look at Song Yueying's back, feeling a mix of anticipation and inexplicable disappointment.

He sighed silently, closed his eyes, and went to sleep. He had just fallen asleep when he felt an arm reach out, followed by a leg lying across him. Qi Yanjue opened his eyes and looked...

Goodness, she's hugging him like a koala now, treating him like a giant body pillow.

The next day.

When Song Yueying woke up, she found herself alone in bed. She sat up, but stopped halfway through her stretch as she remembered the embarrassing incident from the previous night.

However, Qi Yanjue promised her that he would wake her up if she put her arm around him again. The fact that he didn't wake her meant that she slept well afterward and didn't do anything embarrassing again.

I felt a little smug.

Song Yueying glanced at the sky outside and remembered the watch Qi Yanjue had given her last night. Her gaze swept around, and she spotted the somewhat familiar little box beside her pillow.

She reached for the small box, opened it, and inside was the watch. Song Yueying took the watch out, looked at it, and then put it on her left wrist.

Looking at the watch on my wrist, I thought to myself, "It will be much more convenient to check the time now."

"You're awake." Qi Yanjue opened the door and came in. He was very happy to see her wearing a watch on her wrist.

Hearing the voice, Song Yueying turned around and looked at him with a smile, shaking her left wrist, which was wearing a watch. "Qi Yanjue, does it look good? Do I look good wearing this watch?"

"It looks good." Walking up to her, Qi Yanjue reached out and grasped her fair wrist, which was adorned with a watch. He complimented, "Your wrist is very fair and slender; the watch looks beautiful on you."

Song Yueying smiled happily and gave Qi Yanjue a haughty glance, saying, "You have good taste."

"My judgment is indeed excellent." Qi Yanjue nodded without any modesty and said in a low voice, "Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to distinguish between you and her."

That was undeniable, Song Yueying nodded.

Seeing her nod in agreement, Qi Yanjue smiled and pulled her into his arms, quickly kissing her forehead.

Song Yueying blinked, realizing she'd been taken advantage of. She rolled her eyes at him and asked, "When did you realize the difference between me and her?"

"You two have completely different expressions, behaviors, and ways of dealing with things," Qi Yanjue continued, seeing her interested expression.

“You speak German, and the pills you took out… there are just too many flaws.”

Song Yueying said, "I never intended to imitate her or live according to her lifestyle. People who don't know her well won't notice, but in front of people who know her a little better, the flaws will naturally be more obvious."

"We can talk about this later." Qi Yanjue grasped Song Yueying's shoulders and said seriously, "I'm leaving for two days. Be a good girl and wait for me to come back at home."

"Am I a child? Why are you nagging me like this?" Song Yueying pushed him away in annoyance, waving her hand as if shooing away a fly. "Go away, go away, hurry up and go, you're annoying."

Today she's going to teach Wang Qianqian to recognize herbs, organize the pile of herbs in the main room, and take Wang Qianqian next door to check if Uncle Song's wound is infected.

I'm too busy to deal with him.

"Will you miss me after I leave?" Qi Yanjue asked.

"No," Song Yueying answered decisively, mainly because she had so many things to do every day and didn't have time to think about him.

Besides, he'll only be gone for two days, and before she's even started thinking about it, he might be back.

"You little ingrate." He pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly, whispering in her ear, "Yueying, I'll miss you, and you must miss me too."

At such an emotional moment, Song Yueying couldn't bring herself to say the word "not want to".

Her eyes darted around, and just as she was about to compromise and say she would miss him, an idea popped into her head. Song Yueying looked up and asked, "Qi Yanjue, will you be in danger this time you go out?"

"No." Qi Yanjue shook his head. In fact, their mission during their military service was not dangerous.

Knowing he wasn't telling the truth, Song Yueying thought for a moment, then pushed Qi Yanjue aside and walked to the wall where she hung her cloth bag. Under the cover of the bag, she took out half a red pill.

The other half of the pill was given to Song's mother.

Returning to Qi Yanjue, Song Yueying opened her palm and said, "Eat this."

Qi Yanjue looked at the red pills in her hand; he had never seen them before. His gaze shifted from the pills to Song Yueying's bright and beautiful face.

"What's the problem?" Song Yueying raised an eyebrow at him.

“No problem at all.” After saying that, Qi Yanjue took the pills from her hand, put them in his mouth, and swallowed them with his saliva.

Seeing how readily he ate it, Song Yueying decided to tease him, "Aren't you going to ask me what the effects of these red pills are? What if they're some kind of Mongolian or Han medicine..."

"Hehehe, you're not leaving today."

Song Yueying laughed strangely.

"I believe you." Qi Yanjue was not swayed by her at all, and instead joked, "You just chased me away like a mosquito, so why would you give me medicine?"

Well, he was right about everything, and Song Yueying suddenly felt bored.

Qi Yanjue picked up the backpack on the desk, gave Song Yueying a deep look, and stepped out of the room.

His tall, imposing figure walked out of the house, but Song Yueying suddenly clutched her chest. For some reason, the look he had just given her seemed to contain so much.

If she couldn't figure it out, she wouldn't think about it anymore. Song Yueying quickly chased after him. When she came out of the main room, she only saw her mother and Wang Qianqian in the courtyard, but Qi Yanjue was nowhere to be seen.

Why did he walk so fast?

"Little Shadow, you're up. I'll get you breakfast in a bit." After saying that, Song's mother walked towards the kitchen.

Wang Qianqian looked at Song Yueying, sensing that she seemed to be searching for something. After a moment's thought, a thought flashed through her mind: What could Doctor Song be looking for? What else could she be looking for?

"They're definitely looking for Comrade Qi!" Wang Qianqian smiled knowingly. Then she asked, "Dr. Song, Comrade Qi just got out of the hospital, would you like to see him off?"

“No need, he… he said he’ll be back in a couple of days.” Song Yueying refused without even thinking.

Feeling that her thoughts had been discovered, she awkwardly turned and went into the main room.

“That’s right, they’ll be back in a couple of days, no need to see them off.” Wang Qianqian followed Song Yueying into the main room and was surprised to see the herbs piled up there.

She remembered that there were no herbs there when she left yesterday.

Song Yueying was a little annoyed that she didn't see Qi Yanjue after chasing after him, but she still noticed that Wang Qianqian was looking at the pile of herbs with surprise.

As they walked to the pile of herbs, Song Yueying beckoned Wang Qianqian over as well.

Wang Qianqian walked over quickly.

“These herbs were brought over last night by a few young boys from the village,” Song Yueying said calmly. “I didn’t want to go up the mountain to find herbs myself.”

"I paid a few boys from the village who were on good terms with me to go up the mountain to find medicinal herbs for me. No matter what kind of herbs they brought back, I bought them at the market price."

"To avoid causing trouble for themselves, I told them not to tell anyone for the time being."

Since she had decided to teach Wang Qianqian how to treat her external injuries, Song Yueying had no intention of hiding it from her.

“Of course, of course.” Wang Qianqian nodded repeatedly. “Dr. Song, you were right to tell those children not to tell anyone.”

She's been working in the countryside for two or three years and knows the villagers somewhat. If the villagers knew that they could exchange herbs found in the mountains for money with Doctor Song...

Many people will definitely go up the mountain to look for it, and then things will get chaotic.

However, the fact that Dr. Song was willing to tell her this showed that he trusted her. She was deeply moved, but at the same time felt a great sense of responsibility.

"Don't worry, I definitely won't tell anyone," Wang Qianqian assured her. "I won't even tell my husband, Wang Aimin."

Since Dr. Song trusts her so much, she certainly won't let him down.

Unexpectedly, Wang Qianqian agreed with her approach and even promised not to tell anyone, which made Song Yueying even more satisfied with Wang Qianqian.

"What do you mean don't tell anyone?" Song's mother walked in carrying a bowl of noodle soup and two eggs, placing them on the square table. "Little Shadow, come and eat."

"Coming." Turning around to answer, Song Yueying said to Wang Qianqian, "First, sort out all these herbs, and then I'll focus on teaching you to identify the herbs for treating external injuries."

"Okay." Wang Qianqian nodded, and at this point she would do whatever Song Yueying said.

Song Yueying walked to the square table and sat down, then paused, noticing the dumpling soup in the bowl. She turned to look at her mother, "This dumpling soup was made by Qi Yanjue."

Seeing her daughter say so confidently that Xiao Qi made the noodle soup, Song's mother smiled like an aunt.

"Xiao Qi said I didn't need to say anything, you just knew he made this noodle soup, but I didn't believe him at the time." Song's mother asked her daughter curiously, "Little Shadow, how did you figure it out?"

"I've already eaten." After saying that, Song Yueying picked up her chopsticks and began to eat.

Song's mother took an egg and slowly peeled it. "This morning, very early, Song Rumeng came to find you and said she wanted you to go and check her father's wound."

"I stopped her from disturbing your sleep."

"Coming to see you about your injury so early in the morning is not very kind of you."
