Chapter Sixteen: Better to Die for Your Fellow Daoist Than for Yourself

Qi Yanjue frowned in thought. Yes, his willpower was the strongest in the team. In the past, whenever he was injured, he remained conscious, but this time…

This time he was completely unconscious and unaware. If Song Yueying wanted to kill him, it would be as easy as turning her hand.

My gaze involuntarily fell on the bed next door.

When Zhao Yiheng saw Qi Yanjue's gaze fall on Song Yueying, he also looked at Song Yueying, his feelings a mixture of complex emotions and a strange sense of joy.

For a moment, the only sound in the ward was Song Yueying's steady breathing. She was fast asleep, completely undisturbed by the two people talking.

Naturally, this is also related to the fact that both of them deliberately lowered their voices.

After a long silence, Qi Yanjue asked, "Yiheng, is there any effective medicine available that can heal a wound within two hours or even less?"

"You're dreaming if you think a wound can heal in two hours, or even less," Zhao Yiheng said definitively. "Even the best medicine in the world can't do that."

"The human body has the ability to heal itself, and medicine is an aid. Minor injuries usually heal in about five or six days, while serious injuries may take up to half a month."

"These data all come with one condition: that the wound is not infected. Wait a minute..."

Remembering Qi Yanjue's injuries, Zhao Yiheng looked at him intently, "Why did you suddenly ask this? Or have you seen that kind of miracle drug?"

"I've never seen that kind of miracle drug," Qi Yanjue shook his head.

Zhao Yiheng lowered his eyes in disappointment, having experienced firsthand what it means to have great hope but great disappointment.

However, Qi Yanjue's next words revived him as if he had been injected with chicken blood.

Qi Yanjue said, "But I have seen a person's wound heal within two hours, and there was no trace of the injury."

As soon as he finished speaking, Qi Yanjue felt a sudden pain in his arm and looked away. No wonder he felt pain; his arm was being tightly gripped by Zhao Yiheng's hands.

Unfortunately, they grabbed him right where he was injured.

Qi Yanjue's gaze darkened, and he raised his hand to brush Zhao Yiheng's hand away. Zhao Yiheng didn't care; he was asking excitedly, "Where did you see someone like this?"

"Take me to meet him too."

Qi Yanjue didn't speak, but glanced at Song Yueying on the next hospital bed.

Following Qi Yanjue's gaze, Zhao Yiheng also looked at Song Yueying. Without needing Qi Yanjue's answer, Zhao Yiheng guessed the answer himself, "You're talking about her."

Having grown up together like brothers, Zhao Yiheng and Qi Yanjue share a tacit understanding that allows them to understand each other without words.

He suddenly remembered that when Qi Yanjue woke up, he kept staring at Song Yueying's forehead. He had initially found it strange, but now he understood that all the unusual behavior had a reason.

Zhao Yiheng abruptly stood up, but before he could take a step, his wrist was grabbed. Qi Yanjue then asked, "What are you doing?"

“I’ll go check her forehead to see if it’s as you say,” Zhao Yiheng replied matter-of-factly.

"Are you sure you can tell?" Qi Yanjue asked. Zhao Yiheng nodded and then added, "As long as you can guarantee that her forehead was really injured, I can tell."

Qi Yanjue remained silent. He remembered that Song Yueying kept insisting that he had misremembered, but he was certain that he had not.

"I can't remember wrong," Qi Yanjue said with certainty. "The injury on her forehead was from when she was panicking and ran into a wall. When she fell, her forehead was covered in blood."

"That must have been a pretty bad crash. I have to go check it out." Just from Qi Yanjue's description, Zhao Yiheng could imagine what had happened.

Song Yueying accidentally stumbled into the enemy's ambush to kill Qi Yanjue, and she must have been terrified. Otherwise, she wouldn't have panicked and run headfirst into the wall.

"Stop looking." Qi Yanjue pointed out the fact pragmatically, "If you go over there and wake her up, how can we talk to each other?"

Zhao Yiheng found this somewhat reasonable and gave up on getting a close look at Song Yueying's forehead. He could only see her through Qi Yanjue's hospital bed and the aisle between them.

On the other side, Song Yueying was fast asleep in her hospital bed, completely unaware of all of this.

Perhaps it was because of the distance, but Zhao Yiheng stared for a long time. He couldn't make out anything, only a smooth forehead and a few strands of hair.

Suppressing his disappointment, Zhao Yiheng sat back down beside Qi Yanjue's bedside. "Could it be that you survived because you used that special drug?"

"I'm not sure." Qi Yanjue frowned; he hadn't been aware of it at the time. If Song Yueying hadn't mentioned giving him the pills, he wouldn't have known he had taken them.

Qi Yanjue recalled the white pill that Song Yueying had given him that afternoon, which he hadn't taken, and he had also told Zhao Yiheng about it.

"I don't even know what to say to you," Zhao Yiheng said, pointing at Qi Yanjue with a look of utter disappointment.

Previously, there was a pill that could be studied in front of Qi Yanjue, but he didn't accept it.

It's infuriating, absolutely infuriating.

Qi Yanjue didn't feel it was a great pity.

Zhao Yiheng's eyes gleamed with fervor as he tentatively asked Qi Yanjue, "Tell me, if I go over there now and wake her up, and ask her for a pill, will she give it to me?"

"No," Qi Yanjue replied decisively.

Not only will you not get scolded, you might even get yelled at.

The fervor in his eyes vanished instantly, and Zhao Yiheng sighed. Suddenly, he thought of a wicked plan, stood up, and looked at Qi Yanjue with eager anticipation.

"Or, I'll beat you up."

"Make a lot of noise. When she wakes up, tell her you were attacked again and your injuries got worse. She might give you a pill if she's afraid you'll die here."

This trick is a bit underhanded, but it might actually work!

"You really are my best friend," Qi Yanjue said through gritted teeth.

To trick Song Yueying into giving him the pills, they even resorted to beating him, a seriously injured patient. Aren't they afraid of accidentally killing him?

It's truly a case of "better to die than for me."

Zhao Yiheng knew he had made a fool of himself. He touched his nose and encouraged Qi Yanjue, "It's worth suffering a little for our comrades, right?"

Qi Yanjue's answer was just one word: "Get lost."

"I'm trying to talk this out with you properly, why are you telling me to get lost just because we disagree?" Zhao Yiheng said, looking hurt.

Qi Yanjue felt like vomiting just looking at it. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Do you think Song Yueying is easy to fool?"

Zhao Yiheng fell silent instantly, recalling what he had heard from the abducted women and children. Several police officers had searched twice without finding them, but Song Yueying had been found.

With Song Yueying testifying for Will, the police and the hospital cooperated to investigate Nurse Zhang, and they actually discovered that Nurse Zhang was a spy who had been lurking in the hospital for a long time.

If you were to say that Song Yueying is an easy person to fool, he would be the first to disbelieve it.

Judging from Zhao Yiheng's expression, Qi Yanjue knew the answer in his heart.

After a moment of silence, Qi Yanjue said, "Send people to Qingshan Commune, the Fourth Brigade and the First Team to investigate Song Yueying's past. Go tonight."
