Chapter Sixty-Five: The Iron Tree Blossoms

There was a knock on the door outside the ward. Qi Yanjue glanced at Song Yueying before getting up to open the door.

As soon as the door opened, Qi Yanjue saw Zhou Feng standing in the doorway and asked, "What's up?"

Zhou Feng asked with a smile, "Captain, it's already noon. When are you taking your wife out for lunch? Have you decided where to eat yet?"

"Should we go to a state-run restaurant, or eat at the hospital cafeteria?"

Is it already noon? Qi Yanjue looked up at the sky outside. The sun was already high in the sky; it was indeed noon.

After asking his question, Zhou Feng eagerly awaited the answer.

"This is none of your business," Qi Yanjue replied expressionlessly, then turned to close the door.

"No, don't close the door! I haven't finished speaking yet." Zhou Feng quickly reached out to stop Qi Yanjue from closing the door. "Captain, don't be so heartless!"

Qi Yanjue frowned and said, "Speak quickly if you have something to say."

Zhou Feng said pitifully, "I'm hungry, and it's lunchtime anyway. Dr. Zhao took Brother Chen to treat his wound, but I have to stay in the ward to watch over Luo Ming and can't leave."

"So?" Qi Yanjue asked, frowning.

The captain was clearly asking a question he already knew the answer to. Zhou Feng looked at Qi Yanjue with a resentful expression; he didn't believe the captain hadn't understood what he meant.

"Zhou Feng, right?" Song Yueying walked up to Qi Yanjue and stood next to him, looking at Zhou Feng. "Neither your captain nor I are planning to go out for dinner."

"When you go out to eat, could you please pack two meals for us? Thank you!"

After speaking, Song Yueying handed Zhou Feng the money and food coupons she had taken out of the space test vehicle.

Zhou Feng did not take the money and grain coupons from Song Yueying's hand.

He stared blankly at Song Yueying, his eyes filled with disbelief. He couldn't understand why he had come to the captain to ask her to pack some food for him.

Now his sister-in-law is asking him to pack up their food and bring it back.

But he just said he was staying in the hospital room with Luo Ming and couldn't leave. Did he not make himself clear, or did his sister-in-law not hear him clearly?

He was certain he had explained himself clearly, so the only possibility was that his sister-in-law hadn't heard him correctly. Zhou Feng then explained again, "Sister-in-law, I'm so sorry!"

"It's not that I don't want to go to the cafeteria to get food for you and the team leader, but I have to stay in the ward with Luo Ming and can't leave."

Song Yueying said, "That's easy. Have your team leader stay in the ward and watch over Luo Ming. You go to the hospital cafeteria for a meal, and then bring some back for us."

"I'm going to eat first! That's not a good idea!" Zhou Feng said, glancing at Qi Yanjue. Guarding Luo Ming was his task, and he didn't dare let his captain do it for him.

Qi Yanjue remained silent.

"There's nothing wrong with it," Song Yueying said with a smile. "Your captain is injured, so it's not appropriate for him to go out to eat so openly."

Upon hearing her words, Zhou Feng immediately remembered. Their captain was currently injured and it was indeed not appropriate for him to be in a crowded place like the cafeteria.

They always left quietly through the back door of the hospital when they went out to look for Luo Ming.

"Okay, I'll go to the canteen to get food now. After I bring the food back to my sister-in-law and the team leader, I'll go eat at the canteen." Zhou Feng took the money and food coupons from Song Yueying and left quickly.

"Are you going to stay with Luo Ming alone, or should I go with you?" Song Yueying asked Qi Yanjue, tilting her head.

Qi Yanjue made a decision without thinking, "You rest here, I'll go by myself."

“Okay.” Song Yueying nodded and gestured for Qi Yanjue to proceed.

With a helpless sigh, Qi Yanjue walked out of the ward. Turning back, he instructed Song Yueying, "You inexplicably fainted yesterday evening; perhaps it was because you were too tired."

“I’ll stay here and watch over Luo Ming. You go and get some sleep. I’ll come and wake you up when Zhou Feng comes back with the food.”

"Okay." Song Yueying responded softly, and seeing that he seemed to have nothing more to say, she closed the ward door.

Looking at the closed hospital room door, Qi Yanjue suddenly felt a sense of being shut out.

"It must be an illusion," he shook his head and walked toward the next ward.

In the ward just a door away, Song Yueying heard his footsteps as he left and entered the space experiment vehicle. She needed to hurry and check how much of the various colored pills were still in stock.

In the other ward.

Qi Yanjue first went to Luo Ming's bedside to check on him, and after confirming that he was alright, he walked to the window and stood there.

Looking down at the people hurrying along the road under the blazing sun, my thoughts drifted back to my earlier conversation with Song Yueying, and I had to admit that what she said made a lot of sense.

However, he didn't tell her the truth.

He knew who had sent both of his attackers. That person held a high position and couldn't easily challenge him, and besides, he didn't have any solid evidence.

For various reasons, he couldn't do anything about that person for the time being. She said she wanted to retaliate, to teach that person a lesson, and he wanted to too. But...

I wonder what kind of counterattack she can come up with in her little head?

Furthermore, what happened in the alley was too strange; he was certain she hadn't told him the truth either. Or rather, she was telling the truth, just with reservations.

Sigh! When you think about it this way, neither he nor Song Yueying has absolute trust in each other.

Before long, Zhao Yiheng and Chen Guangyao returned.

Seeing Qi Yanjue standing by the window, Zhao Yiheng walked towards him and asked, "Yanjue, why are you here guarding? Where is Zhou Feng?"

He remembered that when he pulled Chen Guangyao away, he told Zhou Feng to keep an eye on Luo Ming.

"He went to get my food." Qi Yanjue turned around, his gaze falling on Chen Guangyao. "Is the wound bandaged up?"

“Yes,” Chen Guangyao replied.

Qi Yanjue nodded, "You need to be careful. Try not to put any weight on your injured arm. It's easy to sweat in the summer, so be especially careful to prevent the wound from getting infected."

"Yes, I will try my best to be careful." Chen Guangyao was very touched by his captain's concern for him.

While Qi Yanjue and Chen Guangyao were talking, Zhao Yiheng looked around the ward and, not seeing Song Yueying, asked directly, "Why are you the only one here? Where is your wife?"

Qi Yanjue liked hearing the words "your wife," and his expression softened considerably. He replied, "I let her rest in the next room."

"It's not normal to let someone rest without doing anything!" Zhao Yiheng asked. "What's wrong with her?"

Qi Yanjue did not answer Zhao Yiheng's question immediately, but instead glanced at Chen Guangyao.

Chen Guangyao immediately understood that the captain meant for him to leave, so he went out.

After hesitating for a moment, Qi Yanjue told Zhao Yiheng about Song Yueying's coma yesterday evening and her only awakening this morning.

After listening to Qi Yanjue's explanation, Zhao Yiheng thought for a while and asked, "Unexplained coma refers to a person losing consciousness and falling into a coma without any warning."

"Are you sure Song Yueying showed no signs whatsoever before she fell into a coma?"

After carefully recalling the events, Qi Yanjue said definitively, "I'm sure, no."

“That’s strange.” Zhao Yiheng frowned, stroking his chin and muttering to himself, “Logically speaking, there must be a reason why someone falls into a coma.”

"A sudden coma must have a reason."

This was the first time he had encountered such a condition; in fact, it might not even qualify as a condition. For a moment, Zhao Yiheng was unsure whether Song Yueying was ill or not.

After thinking for a moment, Zhao Yiheng said, "Tell me again what she said before she lost consciousness and what she said after she woke up."

When Zhao Yiheng muttered to himself that there must be a reason for Song Yueying's coma, Qi Yanjue's heart was already in suspense. Now, hearing this again, his anxiety only intensified.

His expression darkened, and he asked in a deep voice, "What have you discovered?"

"No, don't overthink it, and don't let your concern cloud your judgment." Seeing that he cared about Song Yueying, Zhao Yiheng's expression also became serious. "Tell me about her situation first, the more detailed the better."

"If all else fails, I'll arrange for her to have a full-body checkup."

It seems this is the only way for now, and Qi Yanjue nodded in agreement.

"Wait." Qi Yanjue's brow twitched as he looked at Zhao Yiheng, who interrupted him just as he began to speak.

"You just said that she fell unconscious after calling your name," Zhao Yiheng asked. "Didn't she call your name before?"

“I called her name,” Qi Yanjue said. “The day we met, she brought me to the hospital and acted like she didn’t recognize me. I told her that I was Qi Yanjue, and she just read my name and said she didn’t know me.”

"What was her reaction?" Zhao Yiheng continued to ask.

"Her reaction was nothing but unfamiliarity, as if she had never known me before." Qi Yanjue paused for a moment, then continued, "Perhaps she realized that I knew her."

"She also said that she hit her head on the wall and suffered a mild concussion, and her memory was also somewhat confused."

"I knew she was just making up an excuse. At the time, I was only focused on how quickly the wound on her forehead was healing, and I didn't pay attention to anything else."

Qi Yanjue remembered Zhao Yiheng saying that the more details about Song Yueying's situation, the better. So he really did tell her even the smallest details and his own guesses.

For Song Yueying's sake, Qi Yanjue held nothing back this time. He even told her that she had asked him for a divorce as soon as she woke up.

The two talked about Song Yueying's situation for more than ten minutes.

Finally, Zhao Yiheng concluded, "Based on what you've said, I currently believe that she has likely had her memories of you locked away by someone using some method we don't know about."

“Your name is the key. When she calls out your name, the lock that holds her memory is unlocked, and she remembers who you are.”

This explanation was somewhat far-fetched, but without a better one, Qi Yanjue could only accept it for the time being. He then asked, "If that's the case, how do you explain her asking for a divorce as soon as she woke up?"

"I really can't explain this." Zhao Yiheng raised his hands in surrender. Out of consideration for his friend, he gave him a suggestion: "You can go ask her."

Qi Yanjue glared at him, his words were as good as nothing. If he dared to ask Song Yueying, why was he asking him now?

Seeing his friend's discomfiture, Zhao Yiheng chuckled and teased him, "Brother, you've really fallen for it this time! You came here to get a divorce, how did you end up falling for it instead?"

"When it comes to matters of the heart, no one can say for sure," Qi Yanjue sighed. If he had known how he got caught up in it, he probably wouldn't have fallen for it.

No, he'll still fall for it.

Song Yueying now has an inexplicable attraction for him.

"Feelings!" Zhao Yiheng exclaimed in surprise, looking at him with a playful expression. "You can actually use the word 'feelings'? It seems Song Yueying has quite the magic!"

"She even managed to make the cycads bloom! Amazing, amazing!"

"Get lost." Qi Yanjue couldn't take it anymore after being teased by him, and kicked him directly.

Fortunately, Zhao Yiheng was also quite skilled and barely dodged his kick. He took several steps back before standing still, then looked at Qi Yanjue with an expression of astonishment.

"That's strange. You've been carrying injuries all this time. Even if you had Song Yueying's pills to cheat and heal quickly, your skills shouldn't have improved again."

After saying that, he remembered something and hurriedly went over, grabbed Qi Yanjue's hand, and began to take his pulse.

Qi Yanjue looked at him with a puzzled expression, but let him take his pulse.

After taking his pulse, Zhao Yiheng's face was very ugly. He shook off Qi Yanjue's hand and said through gritted teeth, "Your pulse is steady and strong, there is nothing wrong with it."

"The internal injuries you suffered before are slowly healing."

Finally, Zhao Yiheng looked at him accusingly and said, "Qi Yanjue, you better tell me honestly how many kinds of pills Song Yueying gave you."

Qi Yanjue shook his head with a wry smile.

"What do you mean by shaking your head?" Zhao Yiheng seriously suspected that he was showing off to him. He knew perfectly well that he had been eyeing Song Yueying's pills for a long time, yet he was deliberately showing off in front of him.

It's infuriating!

Seeing his friend looking so angry he wanted to hit him, Qi Yanjue explained, "I shook my head because I'm not sure how many kinds of pills she's given me."

"Aren't you sure what you mean?" Zhao Yiheng seriously suspected that he was deliberately trying to provoke him.

"The literal meaning." Qi Yanjue was too lazy to waste any more words with him.

Zhao Yiheng gritted his teeth. If it weren't for the fact that he needed to speak well of Song Yueying and hope that she would offer him a lower price when selling him the pills, he would have done so.

Otherwise, he really would have given Qi Yanjue a beating.

Even though he couldn't beat them before, and he's even less likely to beat them now, he still wants to fight.

A knock sounded on the door, and Zhao Yiheng angrily said, "Come in."

The ward door opened, and Zhou Feng walked in carrying two aluminum lunch boxes, his face beaming with excitement. "Captain, the hospital cafeteria has braised pork today, so I got two servings for you and your wife."

Braised pork! He's been craving meat for ages.

"Thank you for your hard work." Qi Yanjue took the lunchbox.

"Captain..." The captain told him he had worked hard. The captain actually told him he had worked hard. Zhou Feng was so moved he almost cried.

Seeing his pathetic state, Zhao Yiheng slapped him on the back of the head, "He said 'thank you for your hard work,' and you're so moved you're about to cry. What a pathetic guy."

"Dr. Zhao, you don't understand." Zhou Feng rolled his eyes at Zhao Yiheng. Dr. Zhao wasn't one of the captain's men, so how could he understand the hardships they faced making a living under the captain's command?

“I don’t understand. I grew up with him since I was a child, and you’re saying I don’t understand?” Zhao Yiheng slapped him on the back of the head again.

Zhou Feng, unable to bear it any longer, accused, "Dr. Zhao, why do you always hit me?"
