Chapter 119 Song's Mother's Worries

Taking the basket from Song Yueying's back, her mother saw the eggs and noodles inside. She glanced at her spendthrift daughter but said nothing.

After closing the courtyard gate, the mother and daughter walked quickly into the house together.

Upon entering the main room, Song's mother placed the basket aside. She saw Song Yueying sitting at the table, fanning herself with a bamboo fan.

"You must be so hot." Song's mother went over and poured her a glass of cold water, placing it on the table. "Sit down and rest for a while. I'll go get the food."

"Okay, thank you for your hard work, Mom." Song Yueying fanned her mother a couple of times with a fan.

“What’s so hard about me staying at home?” Song’s mother rolled her eyes at her. “You and Qianqian going to the commune early in the morning to sell wood ear mushrooms and other fungi is the real hard work.”

"Aside from the sun being a bit too strong, it was quite fun." Song Yueying told her mother about the amusing incident of encountering two middle-aged women vying to buy mushrooms at the black market.

"Did you two go to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus?" Song's mother asked as soon as Song Yueying said that she and Wang Qianqian went to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus.

I feel terrible.

I didn't even hear about the two older women scrambling to buy the mushrooms.

“Yes! At this time of year, the only way to sell things is on the black market.” Song Yueying nodded, not seeing anything wrong with selling mushrooms and wood ear fungus on the black market.

Seeing Song Yueying's matter-of-fact attitude, Song's mother turned pale. She said in a trembling voice, "The black market, that's the black market! A place where all sorts of people mingle."

"You two girls are incredibly audacious to go to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus."

Song Yueying chuckled; she didn't deny that she and Wang Qianqian were bold.

"You're not allowed to go there again," Song's mother suddenly said firmly.

If she had known beforehand that the place her daughter and Qianqian went to to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus was such a dangerous black market, she would never have agreed to let them go.

If two girls go to a place like the black market and something happens, the consequences could be unimaginable.

“I don’t want to sell things anymore.” Song Yueying nodded in agreement, then added, “But I can go to buy things; it’s very convenient to buy things on the black market.”

"Most importantly, you don't need coupons to buy things on the black market, and it doesn't matter if the prices are a bit higher."

Upon hearing the first part of her words, Song's mother's expression finally softened, and she even managed a smile. But upon hearing the rest, she realized she had smiled too soon.

"You're not allowed to go shopping either!" Song's mother roared angrily, startling Song Yueying, who looked at her mother with a blank expression.

Song's mother also realized that she was getting a little emotional, so she quickly closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she was much calmer.

“Little Shadow, the black market is not a good place. You should never go there again.” Song’s mother said, “After you left, I became more and more worried at home.”

"I'm just worried that something might happen to you two girls. The thought of you being bullied makes me restless."

"But I never imagined that you two would be so bold as to go to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus."

Knowing how daring those two were, she would rather let the mushrooms and wood ear fungus rot at home than let them take them to the commune to sell.

"Alright, alright, we're back safely now," Song Yueying comforted her. "Your daughter isn't a pushover; she won't be bullied."

When she returned, Song Yueying saw her mother waiting at the door, and she knew that her mother was worried about her and Wang Qianqian, but she didn't expect her to be so worried.

Now she regretted telling Song's mother about the black market. Mainly, she hadn't expected it to frighten Song's mother so much, and forbid her from going to the black market again.

However, she really doesn't plan to sell things on the black market anymore.

Song Yueying spoke sweet words for a long time and promised never to go to the black market again before she could appease her mother.

After lunch, Song Yueying felt sleepy because she had woken up early, so she went back to her room for a nap. Song's mother sat in the main room and continued to make clothes for Song Yueying.

When Wang Qianqian arrived, she saw Song's mother sitting alone in the main room making clothes. She didn't see Song Yueying, so she asked Song's mother where her teacher had gone.

Song's mother beckoned Wang Qianqian to sit down next to her, pointed to the door on one side, and said in a low voice, "Little Shadow got up too early this morning. She went back to her room for a nap after lunch."

After saying that, he asked Wang Qianqian, "Qianqian, do you want to go back and take a nap too?"

"I don't need it," Wang Qianqian replied softly, got up and walked to the cabinet, took the first-aid kit and put it on the table. "The teacher is taking a nap, I'll practice sewing by myself."

"Okay." Song's mother watched as Wang Qianqian took out a needle and a ball from the medicine box. Then she sat down at the table, placed the ball in front of her, and began to move the needle across it.

She recognized the sphere; it was the one Little Shadow gave Sisi to practice sewing.

I don't know what material it's made of, but it looks soft and the color is similar to human skin.

Wang Qianqian held the ball with one hand and practiced sewing it with a needle in the other. She knew that Song's mother was watching her, but she thought that Song's mother was just curious and ignored her.

A moment later, while Song's mother was still looking at her, Wang Qianqian looked up at Song's mother and asked, "Auntie, is there something you want to tell me?"

Song's mother nodded, then quickly shook her head, then nodded again.

Wang Qianqian looked on, puzzled, but she knew Song's mother had something to say to her. She stopped what she was doing, looked at her mother, and said, "Auntie, you are my teacher's mother."

"If I have done anything wrong, please point it out and I will definitely correct it."

"No, no, Qianqian, you've always done very well." Song's mother waved her hand, looking at Wang Qianqian with a serious expression, still unsure how to begin.

Song Yueying had told Wang Qianqian about Song's mother's situation and reminded her that she needed to be very patient when getting along with Song's mother.

“Auntie, I am the teacher’s student. I respect the teacher very much, and I also respect you.” Wang Qianqian said, “If there is anything you want me to say, you can say it directly.”

"There's no need to worry, really."

Hearing Wang Qianqian say this, Song's mother no longer cared about anything else and said directly, "Qianqian, you and Xiaoyingzi should not go to the black market anymore, okay?"

"Ah!" Wang Qianqian was a little confused.

“The black market is a dangerous place, full of all sorts of people,” Song’s mother said. “I’ve been worried about you two ever since you and Xiao Yingzi left today.”

"I'm just worried that you'll get bullied."

“Okay, my teacher and I will never go to the black market again.” Wang Qianqian readily agreed, understanding her aunt’s concerns.

In fact, during lunch, she mentioned to Wang Aimin that she had gone to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus that day. Wang Aimin also warned her not to go to that place again.

Wang Aimin also told her that the black market is frequently raided, and many people have been arrested.

This time, she and her teacher weren't caught by inspectors, so they were lucky. But luck doesn't always work; what if they got caught...?

She was a sent-down youth, and her teacher was a military dependent; if they were arrested, it would be very troublesome.

There is suspicion that they knowingly broke the law.

"Qianqian, you're a good and obedient child. Your aunt can rest assured now." Seeing that Wang Qianqian agreed so readily not to go, Song's mother finally felt relieved.

Little Shadow promised her she wouldn't go to the black market anymore, but Sisi didn't agree, in case the two of them went again.

Now that Sisi has promised not to go to the black market anymore, she can finally relax.

She's an obedient child; it's been a long time since anyone praised her for being obedient. Wang Qianqian smiled gently, "Auntie, have you said these things to your teacher?"

"I did say that," Song's mother said with a smile. "Little Shadow also promised me that she wouldn't go to the black market again. She's an obedient and good child. You are all good children."

Inside the house, Song Yueying woke up from the heat after a short nap. Listening to the conversation between her mother and Wang Qianqian, she found it all quite amusing.

She didn't go out to talk to them, but went straight into the space experiment vehicle to make pills. She got so busy that she lost track of time, and by the time she finished making a batch of pills, it was already evening.

I opened the door and went out of the house, and saw Qi Yanjue sitting at the square table in the main room, writing something.

Hearing the door open, Qi Yanjue looked up, put down his pen, and got up to walk to her side. He reached out and touched her forehead to make sure her temperature was normal before he felt relieved.

"What are you doing?" Song Yueying asked in confusion.

"Let's see if you have a fever." Qi Yanjue tucked her hair behind her ear and said, "You're finally awake. We agreed to wait a little longer."

After a busy afternoon in the space test vehicle, Song Yueying was a little tired. She leaned against Qi Yanjue and asked, "What do you mean, wait a little longer?"

"If you don't wake up soon, I'm going to break down the door." Qi Yanjue hugged her and explained, "My mom told me that."

"You took a nap and slept all afternoon."

"She was worried about you and wanted to go inside to check on you, but you locked the door."

Finally, he asked, "Is it because you slept for too long, and the more you sleep, the more tired you feel?"

"Maybe! I'll never sleep this long again." Song Yueying nodded, feeling a little guilty after hearing what he had said earlier, as she did have a habit of locking the door when she went to sleep.

I didn't expect it to cause Song's mother worry; she should have come out and said something.

"Why did you sleep for so long? What did you do last night?" Qi Yanjue lowered his eyes and looked at the person who was nestled obediently in his arms.

Song Yueying looked up at him. He asked about last night, not this morning. This meant he already knew about her and Wang Qianqian going to the black market to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus this morning.

"I'm a little excited about going to the commune to sell mushrooms and wood ear fungus today. I didn't sleep well last night." Song Yueying thought to herself, she'd already come up with all sorts of excuses, so she might as well use them.

Knowing she wasn't telling the truth, Qi Yanjue didn't press the matter, but reminded her, "The black market is a place where all sorts of people go. Don't go there unless absolutely necessary."

If it's not absolutely necessary, does that mean he doesn't object to her going to the black market? A glint of excitement flashed in Song Yueying's eyes. "You mean, I can go to the black market again in the future?"

"It's best not to go." Qi Yanjue reached out and flicked her small nose, which earned him a displeased glare.

Song Yueying pursed her lips and said, "Your words are much gentler than what Mom said. She was very firm in forbidding me from going to the black market again."

"We're doing this for your own good," Qi Yanjue said.

She knew, of course, that he and her mother meant well. Song Yueying didn't want to continue the conversation and asked, "When did you get back?"

"I just got back a little while ago." Qi Yanjue put his arm around her slender waist and led her to sit down at the square table. He poured her a glass of cold water and placed it in front of her.

He returned to his previous seat, picked up his pen, and continued writing.

Song Yueying picked up her water glass and took a few sips. Her gaze fell on the paper Qi Yanjue was writing on. "What are you writing?" she asked.

“Report,” Qi Yanjue replied.

Song Yueying decisively withdrew her gaze and stopped looking. Reports written by military personnel were all classified. They weren't something she should see, nor could she. If she saw anything classified, she'd be in big trouble.

Seeing her sitting upright, Qi Yanjue stopped writing and asked with a smile, "What are you thinking about?"

“You shouldn’t be writing reports at home. If you leak some serious secrets, none of us will be able to explain ourselves,” Song Yueying reminded her.

Most importantly, if the secret wasn't leaked from her, wouldn't she be even more wronged than Dou E?

Qi Yanjue simply put down his pen, picked up a piece of paper, and handed it to her, saying, "Read it yourself."

"What are you looking at? I'm not looking." Song Yueying looked at him in horror, put the water glass in her hand on the table, stood up and took several steps back.

"You can look at it, it's not a secret." Qi Yanjue placed the paper on the table, stood up, and walked over to her. He took her hand and led her back to the table to sit down.

This time, Qi Yanjue did not let Song Yueying sit on the long bench by herself, but instead placed her on his lap.

"Let me go." Sitting on the human sofa, Song Yueying felt very uncomfortable. "If Mom comes in and sees this, she'll definitely chase you all over the yard with a stick and beat you."

Despite being threatened, Qi Yanjue was not afraid at all. "Mom has gone out and won't be back for a while."

It means that Song's mother will not see it.

Song Yueying suddenly felt a little flustered, and he quickly thought of the other person at home.

"It wouldn't be good if Qianqian saw it," Song Yueying thought. Surely Qianqian hadn't gone out since Mom had. Qi Yanjue quickly shattered her illusions, "Little Wang, the educated youth, went out with Mom."

Song Yueying was speechless. In other words, there were only the two of them at home now.

He held her slender waist with both hands to prevent her from falling. Qi Yanjue asked in a low voice, "Yueying, don't you really want to see what kind of report I wrote?"

"I don't want to see it," Song Yueying replied quickly, as if the document simply contained some kind of secret.

Qi Yanjue sighed, "If you don't want to watch, then don't. I can tell you."

"What kind of logic is this? He's telling her without even looking!" Song Yueying was startled by Qi Yanjue's words. After regaining her composure, she refused without hesitation, "I don't either..."

But before she could even speak, calloused fingers landed on the back of her neck, moving slowly and deliberately. Song Yueying shuddered and immediately tensed up.

"What...what are you doing?" Song Yueying raised her hand to slap his mischievous hand, but he grabbed it with his other hand. She tried to slap him with her other hand, but he grabbed it again.

He easily controlled the person with one hand.

"Qi Yanjue, let me go." Song Yueying glared at him, her tone commanding. Unfortunately, her voice was soft, and the commanding tone had no effect whatsoever.

The calloused hand returned to her neck, gently rubbing it. The fingers, like hooks, roamed over her skin, causing a shiver to run through her.
