Chapter Seventy-One: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Seeing that Song Yueying had taken the book but hadn't turned to walk into the hospital, the driver hesitated for a moment, then tentatively asked, "Comrade Song, is there anywhere else you'd like to go?"

Song Yueying looked at the driver with a puzzled expression, not understanding what he meant by asking that question.

"Here's the thing, the factory manager asked me to take you wherever you want to go," the driver explained. "If there's anywhere else you'd like to go, I can drive you there too."

Speaking of traveling by car, Song Yueying recalled two trips in military vehicles. The first time, she got carsick and vomited so badly after getting off that she felt dizzy. The second time, she didn't get carsick at all.

I didn't get carsick today when I took the factory bus.

That's really strange.

Glancing down at the German instruction manual in her hand, Song Yueying said, "Driver, I live in the countryside, and the roads aren't very good. I want to go back now..."

"I'll drive Comrade Song back." Before Song Yueying could finish speaking, the driver interrupted, "To be honest, Comrade Song, I've been driving for the factory for almost ten years."

"I've traveled quite a few roads in the countryside."

"Thank you so much, driver." After expressing her gratitude, Song Yueying asked, "Can we set off now? I live in Qingyuan Commune, Fourth Brigade."

The driver readily agreed, "Yes, of course. I know the Fourth Brigade of Qingyuan Commune. My eldest daughter-in-law works in the brigade next door."

"What a coincidence!" Song Yueying said as she walked towards the car parked by the roadside. She was happy to have a ride and not have to walk back herself.

The driver was also very happy, feeling that maintaining a good relationship with the factory manager's friend was entirely beneficial. He quickened his pace, walked a few steps ahead of Song Yueying, and opened the car door for her.

"Thank you." Song Yueying got into the car.

"Of course." The driver smiled sheepishly, closed the car door, and went to drive off.

In a ward upstairs in the hospital, a figure stood by the window. He paused for a moment, then narrowed his eyes as he watched Song Yueying leave in a car.

After a bumpy ride, the car finally arrived at Qingyuan Commune, Fourth Brigade.

Song Yueying had originally planned to translate the German instruction manual on the way and have the driver take it back to the factory manager. However, she underestimated the bumpiness of the ride.

Let alone reading or writing in a moving car, she's lucky if she can even sit still. She could only tell the driver to come back tomorrow to pick up the translation, and then say goodbye and leave.

Walking along the path in the sunset, Song Yueying hummed a song that would be popular decades later.

When she encountered villagers on the road, she simply passed by without greeting anyone. As she approached her house, Song Yueying immediately spotted a figure standing at the entrance to her yard.

Qi Yanjue?

Wasn't he in the hospital? Why is he back?

No, he's not Qi Yanjue, he just looks like Qi Yanjue from behind. Upon closer inspection, he's not as tall as Qi Yanjue, and his posture isn't as upright and sturdy.

The original owner's memories didn't include this figure. Song Yueying asked directly, "Comrade, who are you? Why are you standing at the gate of our yard?"

Hearing the sound, the man turned around and saw Song Yueying. His eyes lit up with joy. He excitedly walked towards Song Yueying, opening his arms wide…

This face… at first glance, it does resemble Qi Yanjue quite a bit. In the blink of an eye, the man was in front of her, his outstretched arms about to embrace her…

Song Yueying quickly took a step back, avoiding the man's hands.

"Yueyue, I've finally found you." The man paused for a moment, then stepped forward to hug Song Yueying.

Yueyue? Song Yueying frowned. Yueyue was the intelligent computer in her space laboratory.

Seeing the man about to hug her again, Song Yueying didn't back down this time. Retreating wasn't her style; she raised her foot and kicked the man in the knee.

"Ouch, that hurts." The man cried out in pain, bent over and hugged his knee, almost kneeling down.

Song Yueying looked at him coldly, her tone devoid of any warmth, "Who are you? What are you trying to do, sneaking around my yard gate like this?"

"You'd better tell the truth, or I'll treat you like a thief and hand you over to the captain for punishment."

Upon hearing Song Yueying's words, the man abruptly raised his head, his eyes filled with disbelief and hurt as he looked at her. He slowly straightened up, "Yueyue..."

"You're treating me like a thief? And you want to hand me over to the captain for punishment?"

Looking at Song Yueying with a pained expression, the man's tone was full of accusation, as if Song Yueying were a heartless man.

Disgusted by his expression, Song Yueying didn't bother to waste any more words with him and turned to leave.

"Yueyue, Yueyue, where are you going?" Ignoring the pain in his knees, the man straightened up and chased after Song Yueying, reaching out to grab her arm.

Upon noticing this, Song Yueying immediately moved away.

The man's hand missed, but he was still determined to grab Song Yueying again.

He comes up and either tries to hug you or grab your arm. Who gave him this bad habit? Song Yueying got angry and threw the cloth bag she was carrying at the man.

Due to the height difference, Song Yueying's sack only hit the man's neck, but it was enough to cause him pain.

"Yueyue, you hit me again." The man covered his neck, which was sore from the blow, and his accusation turned into anger.

He never dreamed that the woman who had always obeyed him and let him do whatever he wanted would dare to hit him after only a year apart.

Not only did they hit him, they also kicked him before.

"Hitting you is too lenient. If you call me that again, don't blame me for being rough," Song Yueying sneered. "Also, I have limited patience. I'll ask you one last time."

"Who are you? What do you want by loitering around my door?"

"You don't know who I am?" the man asked instead of answering, his brows furrowed with gloom.

She actually asked him three times, "Who are you?"

Although he had a vague idea in his heart, he still couldn't believe it. Whether she didn't recognize him or had already forgotten him, it deeply hurt him.

He couldn't accept that things had turned out this way between them.

Watching the man's ever-changing expression, Song Yueying fell into deep thought. Could it be that the original owner of this body and this man really had some inexplicable connection?

But why is he not in the original owner's memories?

This person also looks like Qi Yanjue, and they are somewhat related by blood.

Hehehe, it just so happens that Qi Yanjue angered her. Now that he's come up to her, she can't blame her for taking it out on him.

"Yueyue..." Seeing Song Yueying swing the cloth bag at him again, the man's expression changed. He dodged and hurriedly begged for mercy, "Okay, okay, I won't call you Yueyue anymore, I won't call you that."

"Moon...did you not recognize me, or have you already forgotten me?"

The man's eyes were fixed on her, filled with deep affection and resentment.

He anticipated that she would resent and blame him after she left, but he didn't expect that she would simply forget him.

She didn't recognize him, nor did she forget him; she simply didn't know him. Song Yueying was certain: the original owner of this body truly had an inexplicable and ambiguous connection with this man.

Unfortunately, she wasn't the original owner of this body; she was Song Yueying, who had transmigrated from a later era.

Whether he says who he is or not is no longer important; she will find out the purpose of this person's sudden appearance in front of her.

Seeing that Song Yueying remained silent, and that the affection in her gaze had vanished, replaced by unfamiliarity, the man swallowed hard and said, "You...you're not going to hit me again, are you?"

"Let's talk this out. Don't hit me all the time! You weren't this violent before."

"You hit me the moment we met. I don't blame you, but it hurts me, it hurts so much. I know you blame me, you resent me, but I had no choice at the time!"

"Now that I am free, I will come to find you immediately."

"Yueyue, can you forgive me? Let's start over. I promise, this time no one and nothing can stop us from being together."

How many years has this green tea been aged? Song Yueying wanted to roll her eyes at the man's sly words.

If it weren't for the fact that this was outside and people would see them, she would have given him a kick that would have made him infertile.

She couldn't kick, but she could hit. Song Yueying didn't want to use her own hands to hit, as it would get her hands dirty. The cloth bag contained food she had brought for her mother; hitting someone didn't hurt much.

She secretly replaced the food with small metal boxes and hurled them at the man's face. Unfortunately, this time she only managed to hit his neck.

The man gasped in pain, clearly feeling that this time it hurt even more than before.

"I know you resent me, you blame me. If hitting me will make you feel better, then hit me." The man was clearly in pain, but he still pretended to be affectionate and hurt.

“I’ve already explained to you my helplessness at the time, but you still won’t forgive me.”

After a pause, the man put on a magnanimous expression, "I don't blame you. It's my fault. I didn't protect you well, that's why you were disappointed in me and left me..."

"Go ahead and hit me. As long as it lets you vent your anger, I don't mind the pain."

No matter how fierce and unreasonable Song Yueying was in front of others, she was always gentle and kind in front of him. She wouldn't even touch him, let alone hit him.

I must have hit him today because I was too angry.

If he says some nice things and acts like he's willing to let her hit him, she definitely won't be able to bring herself to hit him anymore.

"Alright!" With a cheerful voice, Song Yueying swung the cloth bag at the man. This time, it not only hit the man's neck, but also struck his face once.

The man's face immediately swelled up.

He couldn't believe he'd been wrong; she not only had the heart to hit him, but she'd hit him hard. A cold glint flashed in the man's eyes, which he quickly suppressed.

"It hurts, it hurts so much, my face hurts so much." The man looked at Song Yueying pitifully.

"It doesn't hurt, I'm too lazy to hit you." Song Yueying snorted. Forgiveness and starting over were disgusting to her, so she didn't hold back her strength.

If she hadn't lost her memories of her in-laws' home, she wouldn't be wasting her time here with him.

She had previously thought that the original owner of this body had some kind of ambiguous relationship with this man. Now it seems that the original owner was most likely deceived by this man.

The original owner and Qi Yanjue got their marriage certificate in the morning, and Qi Yanjue went on a mission in the afternoon. The original owner was alone in her husband's family home, where she knew no one, and she was sure to encounter setbacks everywhere.

At this moment, a man who looked like Qi Yanjue appeared, and with a few sweet words, he could completely deceive the original owner.

Now that he's pretending to be affectionate in front of her again, Song Yueying says she only wants to take action, not talk.

"I was slapped in the face before, and you brought me medicine and even said my face was pretty. Now you..." The man looked at Song Yueying with a wronged expression.

He said things he didn't mean, but his body betrayed him by taking two steps back, standing where Song Yueying couldn't hit him even if she threw the cloth bag again.

The most annoying people are those who only say half of what they mean and leave the rest unsaid. Song Yueying coldly watched him play mind games, but didn't expose him. "I must have been blind before, otherwise why would I have said your face was beautiful?"

"If you don't want to get beaten up, keep rambling on and on."

Song Yueying didn't believe what the man said at all. He just looked like Qi Yanjue, but he wasn't the real Qi Yanjue. How could he be as good-looking as the real one?

Previously, in the original owner's memories, there was a blurry figure in military uniform, which has now been confirmed to be Qi Yanjue.

Song Yueying was certain that in the original owner's heart, there was only Qi Yanjue. This man might have lent a helping hand when the original owner needed it, or something else.

But this man held no place in the original owner's heart whatsoever.

"You...you...yes, you won't believe anything I say now." The man gave a self-deprecating smile and asked without any hope, "Then do you still remember my name?"

"I don't remember." Song Yueying shook her head honestly.

The man's expression revealed an expression of "I knew it," and his heart was filled with mixed feelings.

"Qi-Yan-Yun." The man pronounced his name slowly and deliberately, his gaze fixed on Song Yueying's eyes.

Qi Yanyun?

His name was Qi Yanyun. Song Yueying was speechless. She thought to herself, "So he really is related to Qi Yanjue by blood; even the first two characters of their names are the same."

The original owner had no memory of this name, which was incredibly frustrating. Song Yueying became depressed after transmigrating into the body of such an unreliable person. How was she going to live from now on?

Her eyes were expressionless, and the man stared intently at her face, noticing the blank look on her face, his chest heaving.

A sweet, metallic taste filled his mouth, and he gritted his teeth and swallowed it.

She hit me, and my neck and face hurt. Now I feel pain all over my body.

Just then, the courtyard gate was opened from the inside. Song's mother came out, saw her daughter, and immediately went to her, saying happily, "Little Shadow, you're back."

"Yes, I'm back," Song Yueying replied.

"You said you wanted to go to the hospital to see..." Song's mother was interrupted by Song Yueying before she could finish speaking, "We've already seen a doctor, and there's nothing wrong with him."

"It's good that you're alright, it's good that you're alright. Let's go home quickly, I'll cook you something delicious." Hearing her daughter say that she was alright, Song's mother was immediately relieved.

She took her daughter's hand and turned around, only to see the man standing not far away.

"I've seen you before," Song's mother suddenly said. "You are...you are...I...I can't remember."

Who was he? She couldn't remember.

Song Yueying's brow twitched. She looked at her mother as soon as she spoke her first sentence, waiting for her to continue.

Qi Yanyun also looked at Song's mother. He was certain he had never seen this middle-aged woman before. But from what she said to Song Yueying, it wasn't hard to guess that she was Song Yueying's mother.

Everyone was waiting for Song's mother to continue, but after stammering for a while, she said she couldn't remember.

Qi Yanyun was speechless with disappointment.

"Where have you seen him before?" Song Yueying asked.
