Chapter 55 Taking a Deliberate Detour

Of course, he was lying to Qiao Qiqi.

The truth is, as soon as he arrived at the field in the morning, Zhang Qing spotted the apples in his pocket and immediately went over to eat one.

Qin Huai wasn't in a hurry to eat, but if he didn't, Zhang Qing would definitely want some later, so he had no choice but to eat the apple as well.

It has been more than two hours since the apple was eaten.

When Qiao Qiqi saw that he had drunk two caps of water, she guessed that he was lying to her, but she didn't expose him. Instead, she handed him the last cucumber.

Qin Huai gave her a complicated look.

Then he took the cucumber and quietly began to eat it.

He wasn't good at expressing himself, but he silently remembered his wife's kindness.

Qiao Qiqi had nothing to do and thought the stinky plums were quite delicious, so she wanted to pick some for herself. However, Qin Huai suddenly took a handful out of his pocket and gave them to her.

"I picked a lot, but it's not good to eat too much of this stuff. You should eat less and save the rest for later."

"Okay." Qiao Qiqi obediently stood still and continued eating.

She wanted to ask him what he caught in the mountains last night, but considering that he hadn't mentioned it in the morning and hadn't seen any wild game at home, she figured he probably hadn't caught anything.

Fearing that asking this question would further damage Qin Huai's confidence, he simply decided not to ask it.

After finishing the stinky plums, seeing that it was almost noon, Qiao Qiqi asked him, "You've finished your work this morning, can you come home with me now?"

“Okay, I’ll go say hello to Zhang Qing, and then we’ll go.” Qin Huai had just finished eating the cucumber, so he threw the cucumber root into the woods and led her out.

Seeing the branches on the ground, he was afraid that Qiao Qiqi would fall.

He hesitated for a moment, then reached out his hand to her, "Hold my hand."

Qiao Qiqi looked up in surprise.

Meeting the man's tense gaze, she smiled and placed her small hand into his large one.

A man's palms are dry and warm, giving a strong sense of security.

Qiao Qiqi watched as Qin Huai quickly looked away, and couldn't help but smile.

As soon as they stepped out of the woods, Qin Huai immediately let go of his hand.

Qiao Qiqi knew that people's thinking was still very feudal in this day and age. If she and Qin Huai walked hand in hand on the street, they would probably be accused of disturbing public morals.

Thinking it over, she could only go with the flow and endure it.

Soon, the two returned to Zhang Qing. Zhang Qing's gaze swept over Qiao Qiqi, and just as he was about to speak, he heard Qin Huai say, "I'll take your sister-in-law back first."

Zhang Qingjiu: "Huh?"

Watching Qin Huai walk past with Qiao Qiqi, Zhang Qing looked utterly dejected.

Looking back, Qin would always finish his work for him after he finished his own every day, and then the two of them would go home together. But now, seeing that Qin had abandoned him as soon as he got married, Zhang Qing was heartbroken.

The next second, he gritted his teeth!

It's just a wife, right? He'll go home and ask his mother to find him one!

Thinking it over, he immediately squatted down and, as if wound up, quickly pulled up the last bit of grass before running home.

Here, Qiao Qiqi and Qin Huai walked side by side on the road. The man was handsome and the woman was beautiful, so they naturally became the focus of attention of the villagers on both sides of the road.

A villager whispered, "I never noticed before, but now that I see this Qin family boy walking with Qiao Qiqi, I realize he's quite handsome. This couple is a perfect match, they're really good-looking!"

Hearing the villagers' words, Qiao Qiqi looked to her side with a smug look.

Suddenly, Qin Huai said, "I'll take you a shortcut."

Qiao Qiqi was feeling hot, so when she heard there was a shortcut, she was naturally happy and followed Qin Huai without saying a word.

Then, as the two walked, they suddenly passed by a field.

Qiao Qiqi glanced around the field and saw seven people sitting at the edge of the field, drinking water and eating steamed egg cakes and cornbread, looking quite content.

Four of the seven people were familiar faces.

The other three were not familiar to Qiao Qiqi, but they were also in the original owner's memories; they were educated youths who had been sent to the countryside in their team.

The four familiar faces were none other than Hou Yan, Zhang Jingya, Wu Nana, and Xing Guangyu.

When Qiao Qiqi recognized them, the group also saw Qiao Qiqi and Qin Huai walking over.

Wu Nana immediately stuffed the last bite of the flatbread into her mouth, raised her hand and nudged Zhang Jingya, who was looking down at her chicken cake, and said, "Look."

Hou Yan looked up when he heard the sound.

When he saw Qiao Qiqi and Qin Huai passing by, a flash of annoyance quickly crossed his eyes.

Thinking about how Qiao Qiqi had embarrassed him and Zhang Jingya in town yesterday, and how Qiao Qiqi had left by car, he had spent the whole way trying to appease Zhang Jingya, even promising to buy her a pair of leather shoes, before he finally managed to cheer her up.

He barely slept last night because he was worried about his wallet.

At this moment, Qiao Qiqi appeared in front of him with a rosy complexion, her fair and delicate face seemingly glowing in the sunlight.

In contrast, Qin Huai beside her had dark, rough skin and looked like a rough country bumpkin.

Hou Yan immediately had a thought: How could this rough country bumpkin be worthy of Qiao Qiqi?

Yesterday, he thought that Qiao Qiqi was just angry with him, which was why she lied about getting married. But when he returned to the village in the afternoon, he found out that Qiao Qiqi wasn't lying to him. She really had registered her marriage with Qin Huai, and the news had spread throughout the village.

But she just couldn't believe it. After all, Qiao Qiqi used to like her so much, how could she just stop loving her like that?

Therefore, he concluded that Qiao Qiqi must have been too naive and had been deceived by Qin Huai, that big liar!

If Zhang Jingya hadn't been there, he would definitely have gone up to Qiao Qiqi and told her to divorce Qin Huai, that big liar, as soon as possible and not to be so stubborn.

While Hou Yan was thinking about these things, Qiao Qiqi had already walked away with Qin Huai.

Then, she suddenly realized that this road was not only no shorter than the one she had just come by, but because she had deliberately come here, she had actually taken a longer route.

In other words, they took a longer route.

Realizing this, Qiao Qiqi immediately looked at the man beside her, "Qin Huai, are you...?"

Qin Huai suddenly said, "How about we have wild rabbit for lunch? How would you like it? I'll cook it for you."

Qiao Qiqi was taken aback.

Realizing what Qin Huai had said, she was immediately puzzled: "Where did this wild rabbit come from?"

Qin Huai said, "I took it last night."

Qiao Qiqi was even more puzzled. "Where did you put the wild rabbit? I've been home all morning and haven't seen it."

Just then, the two entered the courtyard. Qin Huai went straight into the kitchen and took down a basket hanging from the ceiling.

Qiao Qiqi looked inside with suspicion and saw a wild rabbit that was still alive.

The rabbit was able to escape because all four of its legs were tightly bound.

Qin Huai grabbed the rabbit by the ear and took it to the backyard to deal with it.

Qiao Qiqi was about to start a fire when she suddenly realized that she had originally intended to ask Qin Huai if he had deliberately led her on a detour, but Qin Huai had abruptly changed the subject with the wild rabbit...

Thinking of this, she looked suspiciously towards the backyard.
