As the two were talking, the shaking door curtain was lifted and Chi Fangping walked in carrying a plate of watermelon. "Chang Ya is here too."
The table was at the entrance of the tent. Chi Fangping saw a watermelon on the table and said with a smile, "Just now I saw you cutting the watermelon into small pieces, and I thought you were eating it by yourself."
Chang Ya stood up in a panic and said unnaturally, "It's already dark outside. I was afraid that Ji Ling would fall down after washing her hands after eating, so I thought of cutting it into small pieces and eating it with chopsticks so that my hands wouldn't get dirty."
Chi Fangping nodded, "Pregnant women do need to pay attention to these details. Okay, you two can chat while I take this plate of watermelon to Sister Xu."
Chi Fangping didn't stay for long, she turned around and went out again, but after a few steps she stopped again, "I'll ask the workers to come over and fix the door curtain later."
Looking at Chi Fangping's leaving figure, Ji Ling muttered, "Hey, this is so strange, why is the door curtain broken?"
Chang Ya's back suddenly came to light. She instinctively wanted to pretend to be ignorant, but then she remembered Ji Ling's nature of never letting anyone take responsibility for her mistakes, and she honestly admitted her mistake.
"When I came to see you this afternoon, the door curtain broke as soon as I lifted it. I thought I would wait for the workers to come back and fix it, but I forgot about it as soon as I turned around. Fortunately, Sister Fang Ping just noticed it." Chang Ya apologized again, "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, it's just that the food is not solid." After the watermelon went into her stomach, Ji Ling was in a good mood. Seeing that Chang Ya had also calmed down, she decided to let her go for the time being. "I don't know if it's because of eating the fruit, I feel better. Thank you very much."
"If you like it, I'll go talk to Master Liu and ask him to save a few watermelons for you." After saying that, Chang Ya got up and was about to leave.
"No, no, watermelons are for everyone to eat. How can I eat so much by myself? Next time we go out to buy, please talk to the purchasing chef for me and I will pay for it myself."
"Fruits are not valuable here. We buy them for the family members who come to visit us. You are pregnant now, and the weather is hot and you have no appetite. We should take care of you more." Chang Ya said, "Everyone will understand this and no one will say anything. Besides, Director Wang has also instructed that we must take good care of you."
"Then thank you for your help." Seeing that Chang Ya understood, Ji Ling said no more.
She watched the person leave before opening the lunch box.
After Chang Ya left, she went all the way to the kitchen where they cooked. There was a temporary warehouse made of wooden boards where instruments and daily necessities were stored.
Xu Li was cutting watermelon when she saw Chang Ya whispering to Master Liu with her head down. She didn't know what they were talking about. Chang Ya then stuffed something into Master Liu's hand, but Master Liu pushed it back. Then she saw Chang Ya bowing deeply to Master Liu before leaving.
Master Liu came back with a pipe in his hand, smiling.
"Master Liu, what is Doctor Chang going to do?"
"She said that Xiao Zhu's wife had no appetite because she was pregnant. She was worried and asked me to give the fruit to Xiao Zhu's wife first."
Xu Li picked up a piece of watermelon and handed it to Master Liu, then took another piece for herself. The two sat on the chairs and talked while eating.
"Xiao Zhu's lover is quite quiet. He has been here for a week, right? I haven't seen him many times. It seems that he usually stays in the tent."
Master Liu concentrated on eating watermelon and responded vaguely.
Xu Li smiled, "Master Liu, I see you don't seem to like Xiao Zhu's lover very much?"
Master Liu raised his head and wiped his mouth with his hand. "I don't like to waste food. Being pregnant is not a reason for her to waste food."
Xu Li's eyes widened. "Is there really something wrong?"
Master Liu snorted heavily. "The day she came, Xiao Chi came to tell me to prepare some special meals for her. We all see how tired Xiao Zhu is on weekdays. Now that his wife is pregnant and Xiao Zhu is not around, we should take extra care of her. It's a pity that she doesn't care at all."
"Didn't you eat?" Xu Li guessed.
Xu Li took a deep breath. "My goodness, isn't it said that Xiao Zhu's wife is from a small county town? How could she do such a thing?"
"After a few days of eating full meals, he has forgotten his own last name." Master Liu snorted.
Xu Li shook her head, regretful in her tone, "When I wasn't here, Lao Li would always write home about Xiao Zhu's lover. Yesterday, I came over and heard that he was here, so I thought about going to see him today, but I heard that he was sleeping, so I decided to go tomorrow."
"Young people nowadays only know how to sleep in broad daylight." Master Liu shook his head.
"Did you promise Doctor Chang just now?"
"How can I not agree? Director Wang has come over to explain this." Master Liu raised his hand and threw the watermelon rind into the woods, holding his pipe in one hand and heading to the warehouse, "Let me see how much fruit is left and whether I can make it until the next purchase."
When people entered the warehouse, they could still hear Master Liu muttering, "Why did you run off to the deep mountain valley to cause trouble instead of staying at home during pregnancy?"
Xu Li finished her watermelon quietly. Seeing that no one had come out of the warehouse yet, she shouted inside, "Master Liu, I'm leaving first."
No one responded, but there was a sound of something falling heavily to the ground.
Xu Li was stunned for a moment, then she ran over, opened the door, saw what was inside, and exclaimed, "Master Liu? Master Liu?"
Seeing that no one was moving, Xu Li turned around and shouted towards the tent, "Hurry up, Master Liu is in trouble, hurry up and help him."
Everyone who heard the shouting ran over, and by the time they were working together to lift the man out from under the watermelon, Master Liu had already fainted.
Chang Ya waved her hand and asked everyone to disperse. "Everyone disperse and let Master Liu ventilate. I just checked and it seems that he was hit on the head by something and fainted."
Everyone dispersed immediately.
He looked at Master Liu with a serious expression.
Chang Ya put on a stethoscope and checked again carefully, frowning, "Everyone, carry him back to the tent first. If Master Liu wakes up, we can check his condition. If he doesn't wake up in a few hours, we need to send him to the city."
The watermelon hit him on the head, but there was no external injury. However, without any equipment, Chang Ya couldn't guarantee whether there was any internal injury.
Finally, Master Liu was carried back to the tent.
Someone stayed behind to take care of Master Liu, and then everyone dispersed in groups of three or four.
Xu Li and Chang Ya stayed in the tent and did not leave.
"Master Liu said he was going to see how long the fruit could last. I had already gotten up to leave when I heard something fall out. I called Master Liu but he didn't respond, and that's when I realized something was wrong."
Chang Ya opened her mouth and lowered her head in shame, "It's all my fault, otherwise Master Liu wouldn't have gotten into trouble."
"According to what you said, you should blame the water if you choke while drinking it? The watermelon was pushed too high and placed incorrectly, how can you blame you?" Xu Li advised.
