Chapter 66 Visiting the Forbidden City (2 / 2)

Wu Xiuxiu was as interested in the emperors and empresses of the Ming Dynasty as she was in the Golden Palace. She spent a long time in the Nanxun Hall before leaving.

After leaving Nanxun Hall, the next stop is Yuhua Pavilion, formerly known as "Dugang Tower". Built during the Qianlong period, it is a Tantric Buddhist temple of Tibetan Buddhism and the largest of dozens of temples in the palace.

Wu Xiuxiu and Jiang Yunhan were not interested in religion, Buddha statues, or Buddhist scriptures, so they just took a quick stroll around Yuhua Pavilion and left, heading to the Qianqing Palace.

The Qianqing Palace, as those who love to watch ancient costume palace dramas know, is where the emperor lives and his bedroom.

Wu Xiuxiu was naturally very interested in such places. She visited them very carefully and took a close look at every place.

Wu Xiuxiu discovered that the Palace of Heavenly Purity was the same as in the TV series, with a double-eaved hip roof covered with yellow glazed tiles, sitting on a single-layer white marble platform. The corridor was nine bays wide and five bays deep, and the height from the platform to the main ridge was more than 20 meters.

The main room and the east and west side rooms of the hall are connected. There is a screen between the two golden pillars on the back eaves, and a throne is set in front of the screen. Above the throne hangs a plaque with the words "正大光明". The east and west side rooms are warm rooms, and there is a fairy building on the front eaves.

It is so luxurious, too luxurious, worthy of being the emperor's bedroom. Look at the floor, it is covered with gold bricks.

Look at the carvings and murals around, they are so bright and golden that they blind your eyes...

The two dragons playing with a pearl, the double dragon painting with gilt and lacquer, and the round table with coiled dragons on the ceiling are so lifelike that they seem alive...

When her eyes fell on the plaque with the words "Open and Honest", Wu Xiuxiu showed a curious expression with inquiring eyes.

"Brother Yunhan, do you think the ancient emperor's summons to the throne was really placed behind this upright plaque?"

It has been said that the emperor personally wrote two copies of the edict for the crown prince, and sealed them in a special lock box. One copy was placed behind the "Zhengda Guangming" plaque in the Qianqing Palace; the other copy was kept by the emperor himself so that after his "death", the edict could be verified with the edict behind the "Zhengda Guangming" plaque and then take effect.

"It should be true. After all, it has been recorded many times in official history. It can't be false." Jiang Yunhan said with a smile.

Wu Xiuxiu nodded, "That makes sense."

After visiting the Qianqing Palace, the two went to visit Shunzhen Gate, which is the north gate of the Imperial Garden. They entered the Imperial Garden from Shunzhen and toured the garden. Wu Xiuxiu was shocked again and was amazed.

After visiting the Xia Garden, Jiang Yunhan, who had been to the Forbidden City many times, took Wu Xiuxiu to the Arrow Pavilion with ease.

"The Archery Pavilion is where the Qing Dynasty emperors and their descendants practiced horseback riding and archery. It is worth a visit." Jiang Yunhan introduced to his young wife.

The Arrow Pavilion is located outside the Jingyun Gate in the eastern part of the Forbidden City, on an open flat ground south of the Fengxian Hall. Jiang Yunhan told Wu Xiuxiu that the Arrow Pavilion was originally called the Shedian, and it was renamed the Arrow Pavilion during the Yongzheng period.

Wu Xiuxiu discovered that the reason why the Arrow Pavilion was called "Pavilion" was because it was an independent hall, 5 bays wide and 3 bays deep, with a yellow glazed tile hip roof and corridors on all four sides.

Just as Jiang Yunhan said, Jianting is worth a visit. Wu Xiuxiu felt that after the visit, she gained a lot of knowledge and broadened her horizons.

After visiting the Arrow Pavilion, Jiang Yunhan took Wu Xiuxiu to visit Tongshunzhai, Jingyun Gate, Wenhua Hall, Wenyuan Pavilion, Zuoye Gate, and finally to Shenwu Gate and exited from Shenwu Gate.

"Gurgle... Gurgle..." Wu Xiuxiu's stomach suddenly growled. Jiang Yunhan immediately looked at Wu Xiuxiu, whose face turned red.

Why did my stomach suddenly growl?

It's so embarrassing... so embarrassing!
