Chapter 223: No Time to Wait

Wei Zhuolan stuffed the rubber band into his pocket and took out a handkerchief to wipe the rain off her face:

"My hair is loose..."

"Let her go!"

When Fu Hanzhou rushed over, he brought a gust of wind, which hit Qin Ying's calves.

He clamped Wei Zhuolan's outstretched hand, but his eyes were colder than the rainstorm. The water droplets on the brim of his military cap slid down his neck into the collar of his military uniform.

He stared at Wei Zhuolan's hand touching Qin Ying's hair, his Adam's apple rolling violently, and anger surging in his eyes that was almost turning into substance.

"Captain Fu finally showed up? I just saw that Qin was soaked... and I was just walking her back to the dormitory..."

Wei Zhuolan calmly withdrew his hand, carefully folded the handkerchief and put it back in his pocket:

"Captain Fu, what is this doing?"

"Master Wei, please put yourself in your proper place! There are some people you cannot touch!"

Fu Hanzhou took a step forward and stood in front of him. His eyes were red with rage and his Adam's apple rolled twice.

"Qin Ying, come here."

Wei Zhuolan chuckled softly, deliberately dragging out the last syllable:

"Captain Fu can't even keep his own woman safe, why not..."

"shut up!"

Before he finished speaking, Fu Hanzhou's fist had already brushed past his ear and smashed into the wall, and a roar mixed with thunder rang out:

"If you dare to use your position to harass her again, I will make sure you can't even stand on the teacher's podium."

Wei Zhuolan was blown back half a step by his ki blast, but he was not frightened by his momentum at all. He had a provocative smile on his face and a gleam of success in his eyes.

He suddenly leaned in closer and lowered his voice so that only the two of them could hear:

"This is not the place to fight. It will affect the reputation of the unit..."

He smiled and took a half step back, looking straight at Qin Ying:

"Classmate Qin Ying, I have some dry towels in my office. Do you want to come with me?"

Qin Ying hurriedly stood between the two of them and grabbed Fu Hanzhou's tense arm:

"Stop making a fuss here! The lights in the Academic Affairs Office are still on..."

She felt that Fu Hanzhou's muscles were trembling all over, but he still slowly loosened his fists.

Wei Zhuolan straightened his wrinkled shirt, his lips curled up in an elegant yet dangerous arc:

"Captain Fu is very busy with official duties. Next time, please spend more time with your wife. It will be too late to regret if someone takes advantage of you."

He deliberately emphasized the word "drill". After he finished speaking, he walked into the rain with an umbrella. His leather shoes made a crisp and leisurely sound in the puddles, as if stepping on their nerves.

The raindrops on Fu Hanzhou's face slid down his sharp brows, and his cold voice penetrated the rain curtain:

"It's not your turn to teach me how to protect my people. If you dare to touch her, even if Wei Zhongchao is the Minister of Propaganda, I will make you pay the price."

Wei Zhuolan's umbrella disappeared into the rain, and Fu Hanzhou's military boots suddenly crushed the puddles at his feet. He grabbed Qin Ying's wrist with such force that it seemed to melt her into his bones.

He loosened his rain-soaked collar and looked down at her, his eyes filled with turmoil.

"Qin Ying, do you really like standing here waiting for him to be kind?"

"I don't even want to be alone with him!"

Qin Ying took a half step back and her lower back hit the brick wall again.

The rain curtain from the eaves of the auditorium fell down, weaving a hazy barrier between the two people:

"He showed up suddenly, what can I do?"

"what to do?"

Fu Hanzhou suddenly laughed, his laughter colder than the sound of the rain. He took off his dripping military cap and clutched it tightly in his hand. The silver thread on the brim shone brightly in the lightning:

"You remembered to dodge when you backed away, but why didn't you dodge when he touched your hair? Why didn't you dodge when he pulled your rubber band?"

"I hid!"

Qin Ying's voice was shattered by thunder, and tears welled up in her eyes. She remembered the feeling of the rubber band wrapped around Wei Zhuolan's fingertips, and suddenly she felt nauseous.

"You clearly saw it, why did you still--"

"Because you should have stayed further away!"

Fu Hanzhou suddenly approached, and the faint smell of tobacco mixed with rain came to his face.

The hand he had supported on Qin Ying's head slammed heavily against the brick wall, sending up debris that fell on her trembling shoulders.

"Isn't what happened to Zhao Shunxi enough of a lesson? Wei Zhuolan is more dangerous than him!"

"So you think I deserve to be implicated?"

Qin Ying looked up at his red eyes and suddenly found it ridiculous:

"Fu Hanzhou, what have you ever done to protect me? Every time I get angry afterwards!"

Fu Hanzhou froze in place, raindrops falling down his eyelashes. He looked straight into her eyes, his voice more hoarse than ever before:

"I waded through the water for three blocks! When the wheels of my car were stuck in the mud, all I could think about was whether you were soaked through and whether you had a fever!"

Only then did Qin Ying notice the mud caked on his military trousers. There was a tear at the knee, and dark red blood was seeping out from under the fabric.

But the rage in Fu Hanzhou's eyes overshadowed the wound. He locked onto her tightly, as if he wanted to vent all his grievances, anger, and uneasiness.

"Now tell me—am I even worse than a playboy who can only talk nonsense?"

At this moment, the old-fashioned telephone in the communication room of the auditorium not far away suddenly rang sharply, which seemed particularly abrupt in the rainy night.

Fu Hanzhou and Qin Ying both looked over there subconsciously. The urgent ringing seemed to be urging something, and seemed to be breaking the suffocating deadlock.

Fu Hanzhou's Adam's apple moved, and he reached out to touch the ends of her wet hair, but Qin Ying turned her head away.

"Back to the car."

His voice was as hoarse as if it had been sandpapered. He grabbed her wrist without hesitation, rubbing his fingertips over the raised corners of her wrist bones. He pulled her into his arms, wrapping his arms tightly around her shoulders.

"I'll be there tomorrow at half past six..."
